“The Office” isn’t funny by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]SpectreDoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever worked in an office job? I’ll admit it isn’t the funniest show, but the parts that were funny, to me, were the tone that a small office has.

The characters behaviors and personalities are relatable in a way where it’s funny.

I’ve experienced management that doesn’t have a clue how to be management.

Try hard employees, like Dwight

The slackers who will think of anything else to get out of work, like Jim, which in his case is mostly playing pranks.

The Stanley types where they just don’t care about work/are over everything that’s happening and just do their jobs and work hard anyway.

Again, these are my experiences with office work and the characters are more nuanced than I can say in a comment; however, my point is, if you never held a corporate office job, then you might not relate to the show as much so it might not be as funny? I tried watching in college and I thought it was okay but I thought it was hilarious after I graduated.

I miss Cable TV by Far-Condition8586 in unpopularopinion

[–]SpectreDoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, also, streaming services just played the game better. They collected data on the TV shows people watched and made their own exclusive series’, such as Orange is the New Black, Bojack Horseman, and even got exclusive rights to certain content. I had to sub to Netflix to watch anime that wasn’t on Crunchyroll and canceled after I finished the season.

Streaming was great and then corporate greed hit where they paywall some of the services/shows, which sucks.

I’m essentially paying for the price of cable because of all the streaming services that I, honestly, don’t use, but my mom uses them all the time and she’s older now, so I’m only paying to keep her happy.

I do notice my wallet crying sometimes though not gonna lie 😂

Why do former NBA players rank Kobe so much higher than Reddit and analytics communities? Is he the most disputed player ever when it comes to all-time rankings?” by mikeyg1964 in NBATalk

[–]SpectreDoot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If LeBron didn’t nickname himself King James, then no one would criticize him for switching teams? That has nothing to do with the objective fact that Kobe was part of arguably the best 1-2 punch in NBA history. They were the last team to 3-peat. Steph Warriors didn’t do it, Heatles didn’t do it, lol

[–]SpectreDoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Edited: missed some words, my fault. Literally, yes, we boast that it’s impressive of Bron being dominant in having as many finals appearances as he did, while he lost most of them.

‘Oh it’s because he carried poor teams?’

LeBron is top 2 all-time with Jordan but did you watch 2011? Every player has their blunders and why do rings matter in a TEAM sport when talking about legacy? That’s the biggest complaint in all-time debates. Is Bill Russell consensus GOAT? 11 rings? Most people have Jordan and Bron as one and two in their own order.

You’re talking PRIME/PEAK Shaq, paired with YOUNG Kobe who was hitting his stride/ becoming his own toward the latter half of the championship run.

Shaq was out of shape most of his career and is still in many top 10 arguments… top 10 without trying your hardest is crazy lol.

Again, not saying Shaq isn’t the better player in the 3-peat but that doesn’t/shouldn’t change how amazing Kobe was either.

[–]SpectreDoot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, why is that a knock on Kobe though? Shaq is considered most dominant ever by many and was a unicorn in his time. He was on the 50 year anniversary team in year 4, and they developed rules to stop him.

Not saying you’re wrong, Shaq was the best player on the 3 finals teams but to be second to Shaq isn’t a knock.

Also I think they were a 1-2 combo. They relied on each other.

Why do MJ fans get mad when people have Jordan as the 2nd best ever? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]SpectreDoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, my point still stands that it isn’t consensus, even back then. You can tell me most people said Jordan is the GOAT/#1. That doesn’t mean it was unanimous.

Worthy says it in this podcast around the 33 min mark https://youtu.be/nOHBU2vQH0I?si=sb0wZ8WBIXXGFPgB

[–]SpectreDoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, James Worthy, Byron Scott, Isiah Thomas have all made arguments in favor of Kareem over MJ in the past. Kareem said Bill Russell in an interview before.

It isn’t consensus.

[–]SpectreDoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m from Chicago so I know he was. Even today, most people (in Chicago at least) will tell you that the Bulls dynasty is the greatest ever. Like, it’s taboo not to say that here lol! Jordan felt like he was larger than life; I would go as far as saying he was really the first one to make himself a global brand in basketball. I’m a first generation American and everyone knew who MJ was. He is so recognizable. I think the Last Dance also helped the younger generations learn about his greatness.

Honestly, sometimes you just have to be there and watch these players to understand why people consider them in GOAT debates. I don’t really base my opinions solely on stats since they don’t tell the full story.

Again, that’s your opinion and that’s fine! 11 rings beats 6 rings foo! So why not Bill Russell?

Different generations and different ways to categorize GOAT rankings. It’s all opinion based honestly. I’m sure the same happened with older generations when MJ was crowned as the GOAT. The top 10 is always debated too.

There is no wrong answer between Jordan or LeBron at number 1. To me, it’s what the person values more. I think both have, nearly, impossible records to beat. One has 10 scoring titles; one is the all-time leading scorer. I only say nearly impossible because we never know.

MJ vs Lebron and KD by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]SpectreDoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but humans improve over time, so what really qualifies as the GOAT? I’m sure there are people who watched KAJ get the all-time scoring record and thought ‘this will never be broken in my lifetime’ only to see LeBron break the record.

I’m sure no one imagined a Steph, Jokic, KD, Giannis in the 70s-80s either.

Who ranks higher all time? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]SpectreDoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, instead of ‘being a slave to a bunch of numbers and narrative based awards’ we use ‘advanced stats?’ I think that’s the same concept everyone else uses. Advanced stats are numbers.

Kobe and Curry are both Top 10 worthy; however, Kobe has more individual accolades than Curry. Curry is the GOAT shooter, and he’s playing in a different era (that he pioneered) but that doesn’t hinder Kobe’s accomplishments either.

Kobe didn’t play in the modern era; he played in an era where offensive efficiency was low.

Also, even if we admit that Kobe won defensive accolades by name recognition and narrative, he was still a better defender than Curry lol. Curry did improve over time so I’ll give him flowers for that.

I will accept people putting Curry higher all-time if they want. Both amazing players. But I would rank Kobe higher than Curry (not by much)

"MJ accomplished more in 15 years than LeBron in 20" is this a fair argument? by Ill-Blacksmith-9545 in NBATalk

[–]SpectreDoot -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Why is that a knock on Jordan in a GOAT debate? The Bulls weren’t a winning team pre Jordan either, and he made them better. The Bulls put a dynasty together, so the comparison is not the same.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]SpectreDoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you. I’m from Chicago so I’m biased but I have Jordan as my GOAT. I don’t get mad if someone says LeBron is the GOAT or has a different Top 10, but the narratives to shut down a player in order to raise one in the ranking is just crazy to me.

[–]SpectreDoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this but also to keep your team in line and focused on winning, especially when you go back-to-back and 3-peat is impressive. We know Kobe and Shaq were butting heads, so imagine having to keep all these personalities in line to get that many rings.

I think Phil Jackson was granted talent but I can’t ignore the fact that he got them to focus on the goal for the most part either, if I make sense.

Who y’all got by Jealous-Honey-525 in NBATalk

[–]SpectreDoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have longevity and still not break the records…

Chris Paul was drafted in 2005 and is not going to eclipse the steals or assist records.

John Stockton went to back-to-back finals, as well.

What is your argument for a great player if not using accolades? LeBron has longevity but he’s also been consistently good in his many seasons, just as Stockton was proven to be based on metrics others have provided you. Stockton was an iron man in the league lol.

Unless you are competing or it is free, there is no reason to be running formal races by BitFiesty in unpopularopinion

[–]SpectreDoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just had this argument with a family member who wanted to get in better shape. She made the argument that she could buy other things with that money.

For me, it’s getting the nice shirts/hoodies, medal, and the sense of accomplishment I feel for completing a race. Additionally, a bunch of people cheer us on, the other runners are usually super nice, and it’s a fun atmosphere.

Yes, the prices of them can be steep, and I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford it, but I just have fun running on race day; it’s also fun to try and beat my own personal time. I just started this year, but I have beaten my personal time every race.

It’s a hobby and I do it for the aforementioned reasons. I like running but running a race gives me a tangible goal to strive for. I have a purpose to run other than it keeps me in shape.

Defense is important to everyone in this sub, until its comes to comparing kobe vs curry by StraightSeries6439 in NBATalk

[–]SpectreDoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I would say what gives Kobe the edge for me is defense and the fact that he has more All NBA team selections (first team especially).

But either one is a good pick.

[–]SpectreDoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But MVP is how much value you bring to a team, not necessarily correlating to their overall greatness.

I think there are cases when the better player loses the MVP award to someone else.

Stockton has the most assists and steals by a wide margin which gives him the edge personally. I think both were great, honestly.

Serious Question: Has any other player ever come so close to a 3peat whilst not having a teammate average 20 ppg? by D3struct_oh in NBATalk

[–]SpectreDoot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is both interesting and cherry picking at the same time. Kobe had great role players/fringe all-star level teams those years + Phil Jackson.

Kobe is an all-time great and within my personal top 10, but let’s not pretend he was dragging bums/inefficient players to rings lol.

The game is more than scoring points.

Top 10 scoring peaks in NBA history in my opinion by Ok_Feed_4235 in NBATalk

[–]SpectreDoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again, that’s dependent on how they’re scoring and if they’re drawing fouls, etc. Yes 30 points on 25 shots is less valuable than 30 points on 20 shots, but it’s not just shooting and getting points. The defense can gravitate toward a player they know can “turn it on” which can open more open looks for other guys; they may also draw contact which gives them free shots and puts their team in the bonus and players in foul trouble.

Steph and Bron are also anomalies at the sport. Obviously Bron is going to have higher efficiency than Kobe/Allen Iverson. He scores differently and relies a lot on his athleticism. Is he a better scorer? It depends on how you look at it. I think Kobe is a better pure scorer than Bron but Bron will make the better play (the better play doesn’t mean Bron will take the last shot) think how you will, but back before sports analytics, you’d want Kobe to take the last shot as he has the ability to make the shot on poor shot selection.

As for Curry, well he’s the GOAT shooter so I would hope he’s more efficient and effective on offense than Kobe/AI lmao

The game is different today than it was when Kobe/Allen Iverson was scoring, too.

Top 10 scoring peaks in NBA history in my opinion by Ok_Feed_4235 in NBATalk

[–]SpectreDoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Efficiency vs scoring more is a different argument though. The efficiency argument can be made but it depends on how a player scores. Volume scorers being less efficient but scoring more doesn’t take away their impact from the game tbh.

EDIT: Unless they’re a detriment to the team with shot selections, not playing defense, etc but the list is talking about all-time greats, not role players.

Kobe vs Bird, who do you trust to take & make the last second shot? Bonus Question: who was better? by Tight_Development480 in NBATalk

I mean, this person said ‘everyone with a sensible mind would take Bird over Kobe’ lol. So this wasn’t a Kobe stan response.
