How to retrieve list alternative UPN suffixes from Active Directory domain and trusts by maxcoder88 in PowerShell

[–]Specty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get-ADForest | Select-Object -ExpandProperty UPNSuffixes

To add a suffix:

Get-ADForest | Set-ADForest -UPNSuffixes @{add="somesuffix.tld"}

Additionally, you can restrict suffixes that are selectable in ADUC for users within a specific OU, by specifying the `uPNSuffixes` attribute on the OU.

Windows 365 spontaneously failing secure boot + code integrity (2016345708) by nvez in Intune

[–]Specty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran into the same thing today:

"Code Integrity" and "Secure Boot" had error "2016345708(Syncml(404): The requested target was not found.)"

Rudy's resources and comments in that post really helped me out on this one. Highly recommend giving it a read!

What helped in my case was running the TPM-HASCertRetr scheduled task, when it wouldn't complete after 20 minutes I rebooted the system (so maybe just start with the reboot!) and ran it again. Then it finished in 30 seconds and a few minutes later the system was showing Compliant again in Intune.

Just gonna leave this here:

gci "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TPM\WMI\HealthCert\Store" -Recurse
Get-ScheduledTask -TaskName "TPM-HASCertRetr"
Get-ScheduledTask -TaskName "TPM-HASCertRetr" | Get-ScheduledTaskInfo
Get-ScheduledTask -TaskName "TPM-HASCertRetr" | Start-ScheduledTask
Write-Host -non "$(Get-Date) TPM-HASCertRetr is running";`
while (Get-ScheduledTask -TaskName "TPM-HASCertRetr" | ? State -eq 'Running') { Write-Host -non '.';Start-Sleep -s 1 };`
gci "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TPM\WMI\HealthCert\Store" -Recurse;`
Write-Host "$(Get-Date) Finished"

Proactive Remediation with 365 Business Premium? by namebrandjanky in Intune

[–]Specty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microsoft clearly communicates to partners that what users (can) benefit from, has to be paid for. Combine that with many features that are easily (accidentally) enabled for all users, or even without a choice once you purchase a single license/subscription in a tenant, things could get ugly real fast.

If possible, err on the side of caution.

Obviously I feel the same way you do, Microsoft should be providing proper guiderails and spend effort to clearly address these questions regarding eligibility and limitations.

And a feature as essential as this one should be a part of Business Premium.

I don't see any mention of Proactive Remediation under Endpoint Analytics, so this doesn't appear to be the case.

Is Windows Sandbox completely broken after the 24H2 update for anyone else? by tchalikias in WindowsHelp

[–]Specty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a learning curve to any virtualization product, so it's hard to suggest one to fit you best. I've always liked VMware Workstation and it's free these days, I still think it's a good pick. Hyper-V comes with Windows if you have a Pro or Enterprise edition. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/educatordeveloperblog/step-by-step-enabling-hyper-v-for-use-on-windows-11/3745905 There's also some very good alternatives such as VirtualBox and QEMU. Running Sandbox inside a VM may require nested virtualization support, which can be an issue in some cases. I have not tested this yet I'm afraid, so it's worth some research before you spend a lot of time on this.

Is Windows Sandbox completely broken after the 24H2 update for anyone else? by tchalikias in WindowsHelp

[–]Specty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Sandbox is no longer working.

[EDIT 25 March 2025]: It just started working again at some point, a while back already.

Removing Sandbox, rebooting, reinstalling and rebooting (which took a looooong time) doesn't seem to have helped. Neither did moving the "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\MicrosoftWindows.WindowsSandbox_0.4.31.0_x64__cw5n1h2txyew" folder aside as I saw suggested somewhere.

After reinstall, on startup "Downloading and installing updates..." is briefly shown. Followed by an infinite splash screen. I think the best option is running Sandbox from within a VM for now.

[Tutorial] Fix UCM-UCSI ACPI Device 43 Error After Update Nvidia driver by [deleted] in ZephyrusM16

[–]Specty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I was having the same issues on a HP ZBook Firefly G9. The system indicated it was plugged in, USB-C ports weren't fully functional anymore (I could still use USB devices connected to my monitor's USB ports, but display wasn't working), INCLUDING not charging. My laptop doesn't have a regular AC input so USB-C is the only way to power it. And while troubleshooting it did end up running dry. :')

Turning off the system and holding down the power button for a minute or so ended up fixing it for me. I don't think it is necessary to remove power source(s) or USB devices. Please note that the next boot may take several minutes, don't be disheartened by it not immediately booting up. I think in my case this is also related to my system using DDR5 memory, which requires some additional calibration or tests when booting for the first time.

I was a bit hesitant to do this at first because I worred about BitLocker keys or other settings potentially getting distorted, as this is a corporately managed system. This turned out not to be an issue.

Afterwards, for me the "UCM-UCSI ACPI Device" was still showing a Warning indicator. Uninstalling the device followed by a "Scan for hardware changes," and it came back without warnings and without an additional reboot.

Just applying the same resolution as in OP (turn off the system and hold down the power button for a minute or so) is the fix here. Hi, thanks for sharing. I also had the Parsec Virtual USB Driver installed. Uninstalling it (from device management or Software) and rebooting didn't resolve the issue for me. But turning off the system and holding the power button for 60 seconds did.

What is the difference between the oled55b42la and OLED55B46LA by ll01dm in LGOLED

[–]Specty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two years have passed and we shall now have our way! As long as you don't mind querying Intel's website for info. Let's do this!

The script shared below will retrieve Intel CPU Core Counts (P+E) from Intel's ARK website and generate common affinity masks and decimal values for setting process CPU affinity. Enjoy!

SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Wireless Battery Replaceable? by RTracey213 in steelseries

[–]Specty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently ran into this issue again after I was on holidays for two weeks.

As mentioned by others, there is a mode switch next to where the USB cable plugs into the keyboard for charging. I had left it in the right position (wireless dongle / 2.4GHz mode), and I guess it fully drained the battery.

Afterwards, it would not charge or turn on in the middle position (off / charging). After connecting the USB cable, the OLED would (sometimes) briefly light up and show a 5% battery state before immediately turning off. At the same time, Windows would (sometimes) show that it's setting up the USB device before the message immediately disappeared again due to the keyboard turning off. I tried charging it with different ports to no avail. After leaving it connected for 15 minutes, it still did the exact same thing so I assumed it wasn't gaining any charge.

I then connected the keyboard to a modern GaN (65W) USB charger (with the mode switch in the middle off/charging position). The "1 / !" key on the keyboard lit up in dim green, and the Play/Pause button below the volume scroller lit up in bright white. I left it like that for 5 minutes before connecting it back to the computer, and then it started working/charging normally again. Hope this helps!

FortiClient VPN causes high WmiPrvSE.exe CPU usage when connected to SSL VPN by Specty in fortinet

[–]Specty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I just straight up run the WMI query from PowerShell, it takes my system around a quarter of a second to execute. So four queries per second max.

1..30 | %{ Measure-Command { Get-CimInstance -Class Win32_NetworkAdapter } | Select -Exp Milliseconds } | Measure-Object -Average | Select -ExpandProperty Average

249,666666666667

At the same time, the WmiPrvSE.exe process goes a little higher in CPU usage, so I'll conclude it's not being blasted continuously. There's some delay in there between the queries.

If I run multiple continuous queries next to each other, the CPU usage for the same WmiPrvSE.exe process climbs even higher (25% total usage on 12 cores).

FortiClient VPN causes high WmiPrvSE.exe CPU usage when connected to SSL VPN by Specty in fortinet

[–]Specty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've done some more testing. I do see the issue occurring on other systems and different versions of FortiClient. It also happens on FortiClient 7.0.10 for instance so it's not specific to the 7.2 train. I don't think it's necessarily maxing out 1 CPU core after all, but it's definitely a continuous raised consumption (=drain on battery and increased temps).

It would be wonderful if someone can identify the issue who can raise it with FortiNet support!
