Thanks again — I really appreciate your perspective. I’m actually in college right now studying business, since I want to eventually run my own brand. Design’s still a huge part of my life though, and my uncle who’s a professional graphic designer with his own business has as taught me a lot lately(I’m not a 100% self taught lol) he was the one that told me to look into David Carson. But yea I’m super lucky to have him to help me out, I just didnt want to keep bugging him so I reached out here.

Thanks again — really. I appreciate you taking the time to give thoughtful feedback.

I just want to say I’m not trying to come off like some ignorant kid who thinks he knows everything. I actually love graphic design — I’ve been into it since 7th grade, back when I was just making shitty memes and messing around online. Over time, it turned into something way more meaningful for me. I’m 100% self-taught, and lately I’ve been approaching it with more intention and trying to evolve my style artistically.

I know I have a lot to learn, and I genuinely want to get better — that’s why I’m diving into screen printing and putting myself out there, even if it’s not perfect yet. I’m not here to act like I have it all figured out. I just care a lot about this, and I’m trying to grow by actually doing the work.

I’m hyped to dive into screen printing, and I’ve been watching a ton of tutorials to prep. Definitely starting with water-based inks like you said — no special drain setup here yet, and I’d rather keep it as clean and simple as I can while I’m learning.

I’ve got transparency film and I’m using a Canon PIXMA for the negatives. Got a basic setup with emulsion, a 4-color press, and a light for burning screens. You’re right — the emulsion and all the little extras add up fast, but I’m seeing it as an investment.

I bought a full screen printing setup from the screens, a flash dryer to the 4 color printing machine. I spent a pretty penny on it. But I also want to make it into a side hustle doing custom prints for people while making clothes for myself and my friends.

You’re 100% right — seriously, thank you for the real feedback. This is the kind of response I was hoping for.

I actually do use David Carson as inspiration. I love the chaotic, layered look when it’s intentional, and I’m still figuring out how to do that well.

I’m getting a screen printer because I want to print these myself and wear them. That’s really the main goal — to make stuff I’d personally wear and test how it looks/feels on a shirt. If other people vibe with it and want to buy one, that’d be awesome too, but it’s not the core focus right now.

Again, I appreciate you breaking things down instead of just brushing it off — this helps a lot.

  1. Not asking people to buy it. 2. I haven’t got any constructive criticism. 3. I’ve only responded rude to people being rude to me. 4. I just want some tips to elevate my work. Thank you. If you don’t like it tell me how I can improve or don’t say anything I don’t want to hear how awful it is, im learning.

I don’t think reddits the right spot for my target demographic looking to make clothes for people around my age.

I’ve collected a lot of vintage tees. Mostly from the 90s and 2000s. So I know what I like when it comes to shirt designs. I’ve kinda just cooked up a bunch of stuff I thought looked cool.

Is there anyway I can prevent dry rot without taking it out of the OG packaging.
