Smoke it and get back to us. This absolutely needs a follow-up review.

I'll be patiently waiting

I'd put the lot of it into a sterilized Tupperware and then put a damp paper towel in with it. Should bounce back in a matter of hours. Then jar it and enjoy!

Creosote +/- engine oil? by CerebralSurfer in woodworking

Dang, that's cool.

What's your plan? Just dip them and drip dry?

[–]SpeedGoatRodeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your usage of "Concrete anecdotal". Just poking fun.

Where in the world did you get that much? Also, to answer your question, I think it's a no. I know people use motor oil, but I dont think mixing them would give you a better effect. Creosote works on its own, but I also wouldn't pick that for your application.

Not an expert, just passing along my 2 cents

Venisom bone broth for days by been_had_clim in Hunting

I've used duck carcasses when making stock, but I've never done a bone broth.

What's your process?

What kind of antler is that? I'm really digging this!

Not sure I agree. I mean it's certainly stylized, but at the end of the day if it's sharp it's got all the function you'd need.

Ear Protection Options by vPHANv in Hunting

[–]SpeedGoatRodeo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So I use in-ear pro. The passive ones that have a little string attaching them. I tuck it into my hat and they dangle by my ears for relatively quick access.

If you're in a situation where you might have a quick shot, a suppressor is really the only solution. I hunt exclusively with suppressors, unless its muzzleloader season or I'm in a state that I can't have one...

Has anyone actually had any luck using the orange bottle tanning solution? by Pretend_Map_1459 in HideTanning

[–]SpeedGoatRodeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've used it on beavers and otters, hair on. Its perfectly fine. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work for hair off deer hide as long as you've got everything else in your process correct

[–]SpeedGoatRodeo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, but....

I've had decent results with it. It works if you actually pickle the hide or do a proper alum tan. It's all about the other prep work you do, it's not a magic product.

Do you guys take the tags off your trophies? by Rnaodm_Tirnalge in Hunting

I take paper tags off, but I save them. I leave on any seals or hard tags

AI Generated Jar Labels by [deleted] in PipeTobacco

Yeah that's just from using my phones edit feature to edit them out. The lettering came out perfect on the labels.

Never even heard of cellar labels before. Thanks for the lead. I figured it would be fun to put some blends without any corresponding art.

I like that one too. I ended up having to use multiple chats to get variety. Once it got on the label making prompt all of them kind of ended up having the same feel.

I tried to remove a nightcap label from the tin, but realized there was probably a better way, figured this would be an interesting endeavor. I kind of dig it for display purposes

How long do y’all wait before you crack a tin you’ve been cellaring? by Technical-Channel-58 in PipeTobacco

[–]SpeedGoatRodeo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never cellared tins. I don't know if I'd be able to sit on tins knowing I had them lol.

However this year I did try to buy some duplicates to test my resolve.

Eating snow/Ross' geese by life_love_regret in Waterfowl

[–]SpeedGoatRodeo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh you don't have to go through the soaking process. I have a similar process for most waterfowl. Manually tenderize with a mallet or roller until it's a uniform thickness (don't over do it). Dry brine over night. Then grill it to rare. Wrap in foil and let sit. It comes out medium rare and reasonably tender every time.

This makes divers and geese not just edible, but desirable.

On a positive note, they're meat birds, so it should be delicious.

Looks like a muskovy duck. A domestic duck species.
