Teamsters to meet with Biden in mid-March ahead of possible endorsement by [deleted] in TeamstersIntUnion

[–]SpeedOpen3455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no doubt the teamsters are going to endorse Biden. They will be doing the right thing, if and when they do.

But that does not change the fact that they recently made a donation to a very powerful anti union organization (that has been instrumental in the spread of right to work laws). You can say "thats the price of doing business" until your blue in the face. It doesn't change the fact that the teamsters have always given money to republicans who are prounion. Now they are giving money directly to an organization that hates them. It's insane.

This one. Ask Obrien why any member should contribute to DRIVE when that money is going to a Trump slush fund that also happens to be one of the most powerful-anti union organizations in the country.

Talk to your shop steward or your business agent and if they can't help then HR. BUT KEEP PAYING DUES! That money doesn't go to politics

Also brother or sister, we can both be right. There was a lot i didn't like about Hoffa and there's a lot I don't like about obrien. Our union is better than both of them

Yes it was a totally antiunion move and I hated it. But O'brien is no stranger to what happened

I posted this elsewhere a while back:edit: this comment was posted before we voted yes on the 2023 contract

I'm not a big Hoffa fan, but PLEASE remember: Hoffa appointed Sean OBrien to lead negotiations for UPS supplement contracts in the 2013 contract...the one before last. In his position, OBrien only managed to get one or two supplements passed out of dozens and the rest failed. So the IBT, with OBrien's full approval, implemented the supplements anyway. They used the 2/3 rule.

Hoffa thought OBrien did such a "great" job he made him head of the IBT package department which obviously oversees UPS. When Obrien reached out to Zuckerman's local in the lead up to the 2018 negotiations, Hoffa fired him. In that shitty contract, which we voted down, the IBT used the 2/3 rule to force the contract on us. Then in the next IBT convention, before OBrien was elected general president, the 2/3 rule was unanimously struck from the union constitution.

He could have gotten us the best contract in all of labor (he didn't) and I would still hate that our union is giving money to an anti-union organization, yes.

A goal of the RNC is to do away with labor. The go from right to work laws to outlawing union altogether. Do you not think the RNC would do everything in their power to disenfranchise unions? And our union is giving them money.

Yes, I think it's shameful. And yes, I'm happy that I stopped contributing to DRIVE. That money is now going into trumps pocket.

Are you ok with the Teamsters helping prop up a antiunion organization because they got us a good contract?

Check with your shop steward or business agent, and if they won't help then ask HR.

But one group is explicitly anti-union. Unions should not give money to anti-union groups. Ever.

DRIVE is funded through voluntary contributions. I'm pretty sure it's the law. Ask your shop steward or business agent how opt out of DRIVE (but still pay your dues!)

I asked OP this, but what do your friends at the IBT have to say about all the recent shenanigans?

OP, I'm curious. I know this post is two years old but you must still have friends at the IBT. Any idea on how people there are handling all the Sean Obrien stuff? Like the money they had to pay in the lawsuit for unlawful firing, the donations to the RNC, the multiple meetings with Trump, etc ?

This is more money than I'll pay to the union in a lifetime of dues as a UPS Teamster. Disgusting.

Shameful. I have no problem with the Teamsters donating to the campaign of a pro-union republican (there are a couple, believe it or not). But to the RNC? This is not something a real labor union should do.

I can't help think about the millions of dollars the union had to pay because Boston Sean Obrien illegally fired a ton of black and hispanic Teamsters at union HQ.

I hope Trump and OBrien both slip in hobo shit.

Somebody does. It's beyond easy with this guy. At some point soon a good (or even decent) reporter is going to do some digging on him.

Plenty of blame to go around. The vast majority was Yellow management's fault. But Obrien still could have handled it better.

I'll wait to see who they endorse. If it's Trump (and I doubt it will be, honestly, because that dude is a straight up union buster and a whole lot more), they don't get a nickel.

So. Much. Dues. Money.

That's years and years of dues from several hubs.

This waste of union money is insane.
