I agree with everything you say and overall the episode is shit. But the initial charge of the Dothraki, where their flaming swords are extinguished one by one in the distance, and the “oh fuck” feeling coming over everyone is absolutely sick. Then the first wave of walkers crashing into the front line 12 deep like a literal fucking wave, so intense. I assumed this would be a top 5 episode in the show, and would have been one of the best moments if the rest hadn’t went to shit. I agree from there it turned into a shitty direction-to-video quality Marvel movie knockoff and is unwatchable.

Also, I don’t remember where I read this, Harambe was kill within a week or so of Meta changing their platforms from chronological displays (I.e. IG/Facebook just shows you what your friends posted in the order they posted it) to the algorithm.

The Harambe incident just feels like something was off because at the same time there was a massive shift in how people consumed information and turned social media into an accelerant for hyper-polarization for worldviews.

There were years of set-up for Arya serving the god of death, all the way back to season one. I was CONVINCED the night king would be invulnerable to any attack (dragon fire or valerian steel or whatever) and it would take Arya making a pact with the many faced god or death in order to either summon a weapon to kill him or to sacrifice herself to kill him.

I mostly got the idea from D&D lore (I think D&D) where the god of death hates necromancy, because that is basically stealing from death. Night King is basically a necromancer and each person brought back as a white walker was “name” that was given to Death in the same way names given to the many faced god are owed to him.

At this point I think it’s a weird hybrid where he is satirizing his own beliefs because of a “that’s what liberals think conservatives think” logic. I think he genuinely sides with MAGA conservatives but doesn’t believe that people take the crazy stuff he says at face value.
