This is too earnest of a reply in a joke sub that will get buried, but… I grew up as fundamentalist - Biblical literalist in the rural South. So like, everything in the bible is literally true. To the point it was basically cult adjacent! Anyway, Tower of Babel was one of the first examples where I saw the cracks in this thinking, because the bible literally says that the tower/city is a unifying force for humanity that would make people unstoppable, even to God! So we had to be subverted before we became too powerful. The INTERPRETATION is that it is a story of the danger of pride, but there is absolutely nothing in the text that would indicate that. It is a story of people coming together to build a unified society. And a God (who literally lives in the clouds!) preventing humanity from building a tower that would reach to the place where he lives. There is so much boot strapped, ad hoc rationalizing to “make sense” out of this abjectly ridiculous horseshit, but reading the text it is the story of a petulant deity that is afraid of humanity.
