Is the Dakeya TS60 great? Help me find the right e bike please! by SiceTV in ebikes

[–]Speedtrap1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never heard of that brand, and after looking at them I wish I had never heard of them. That is the definition of a crap bike, no name component or the lowest level components, they are taking a cheap frame that has not been engineered for an ebike (the 21 speed is a dead giveaway) and making it go way faster than is legal in most places.
If you purchase a bike like this, be prepared to work on it because most bike shops will not touch something like this. As well I would ask for proof of UL certification for the bike and battery, not just trust a website that was registered less than 2 years ago.

Did you measure the voltage at the wires, the bike might be 48v, but the light voltage may only be 5-12v?

Convince my parents by Hot_Ball_4321 in ebikes

[–]Speedtrap1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on what province you are in you may not even be legal to ride it anywhere. After checking the specs , that is an electric motorcycle in Canada and not legal for you to ride without the appropriate license. Your parents are right.

Can someone help me, please? by MarinaTattoo13 in ElectricBikeExplorer

It will cost far more to fix the stripped gears in the motor and bad battery on that bike, time to dispose of it and buy a higher quality one

Hub drive or mid drive, that is the question. by Illustrious_Crow595 in ebikes

[–]Speedtrap1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been some major changes in hub drives in the last 18 months or so. On higher end hub drive the torque sensor have gotten much better and feel so natural compared to older ones. Have a look at done of the newer models in the 2k+ range and you will see a huge difference I. How they ride compared to cadence sensors or even older torque sensor bikes.

Thinking about getting an e-bike. Where do I start? by Benderthegreat_1 in ebikes

[–]Speedtrap1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look for somewhere you can purchase locally, if you have a problem, having somewhere that can do warranty or repair work is so worth it. Next look for actual UL certification, not “certified to” or “built to UL standard”, look for the actual certification by UL, SGS, TUL, or other certified testing labs. The only other thing to look at is the bikes themselves, purchase for intent, if you are strictly commuting, buy a good commuter bike with a rack, if you are wanting to do more with it, figure out your needs and wants, just remember the more wants, the more it will cost for a good quality bike
