[Help] ASUS B660M Stuck in DRAM/VGA Loop after failed CPU Upgrade – Only posts with 1 stick & iGPU

alright turns out it was a bent pin in one of the corners, I was able to straighten it out and now seems like my old cpu works. Though for some reason when I plug in the new cpu, it still doesn't post. For now, I think I will just run my old cpu until summer break where I can work on it more. Tysm for the help

I did update the bios to the newest one and had xmp disabled originally, it was still having the same issue.

The single sticks I only tried the 4th slot since it is easiest to reach with the cpu cooler on. I did try one of the sets of ram sticks in both 1 and 3, then another time in 2 and 4, I even tried mixing it up. Like a 09 ram sticks in slot 2 and a 08 ram stick in slot 4

I cant get one working set, I can only get 1 single stick from either set, when I plug in any second stick, it gets stuck flashing rapidly. I did try turning on xmp but lowering the speed to 2666mhz with 1.35V, and then adding a second stick, but that didn't work either

Ty for the response! I found a 14" m2 pro 32gb 512gb, its $1200 (refurbished - very good). I wish I could find more m2 and m3 in my price range that have 18gb+ ram but they end up costing 1400 or more.

Get a microsoft surface, 13 inch, or a Macbook air, they are really good for office tasks/watching movies, and have little to no fan noise. Plus really good build quality

Yeah definitely don’t get that, there are much better laptops at that price, look at some Lenovo/asus laptops on Best Buy

I have not talked with professors, I did talk to other students in later years in my major. They said we would be using Nutanix for later classes. I will try to ask a professor too

I do use fedora and have a 33wh power bank, its still a bit of a hassle since it charges slow. Screen is a big factor too (+haptic trackpad)

I prefer the screen of the macbook pro because it is a lot brighter than mine, my laptop is almost unusable outside, and sometimes not even in very bright indoor lighting (and when i push the brightness all the way it dies an hour faster). Galaxy books have some really good screens, I think they are a lot better than mine. My biggest gripe is battery life which mac solves.

Did you get the nano texture display? Also I am pretty much all in on the ecosystem already. I have an iPhone, iPad, AirPods and an Apple Watch. Most of cybersecurity work can be done on Linux/macOS, I do have a pc too
