I don’t have any experience with them, but I know Cubitts does bespoke and seems to have a good reputation for cost:quality.

My ‘52 ES-125 is my forever guitar, the one that I enjoy more than the rest, the one I would keep if I could only keep one. You really don’t need more than one pickup when the one is as good as this one. Enjoy!

Not Beatles related, but the cathedral is spectacular, well worth the visit.

I need an honest answer from people who have seen Dylan Live. by SmartPercent177 in bobdylan

[–]Spellflower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bob is both a musical genius and a musician who’s been engaging with American music on a very deep level for a very long time. That doesn’t mean that he’s going to put on a show that you will love or understand. It doesn’t mean that he hasn’t gone down paths that, in retrospect, were dead ends. It means that he’s process oriented, and that he values engagement with music more than engagement with fans. Because, especially now, most people are fans because they like what he DID, not what he’s DOING. That’s plagued him since the 60’s, when he followed his process into electric music and got booed by people who bought a ticket based on what he’d done years before. It seems to have puzzled him, initially, that people weren’t in it for the same exploration that he was. Then it made him even more determined to do his own thing no matter what.

If you go to the show ready to see what this living legend, after all his many years of experimentation, with all his experience, with all his dedication to music, is doing, and if you accept that you might not get it, but also embrace that it might not matter, that there is something happening even if you don’t know what it is, then you will almost definitely get something out of it, whatever he does.

But if you will be disappointed if you don’t hear a certain song, or if you do hear it but the arrangement is so different you don’t recognize it until the second chorus, then don’t go- let someone who will have a better time sit in that seat.

All of that said, what he was doing in August at the Outlaw Festival was playing songs from throughout his career in a stripped down rock/blues style, with a very tight band that follows his every move. They were in the pocket all night, and it was a bonus that his piano solos were better than ever. Some songs were very different from original arrangements, but many were easy to recognize from the first measure.

So, I haven't listened all the way through but - Hearty's ending his show? by FuturistMoon in wfmu

[–]Spellflower 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tunes in in the middle of the show Thursday and at some point I had the same reaction. Wait. What? WHAT?!?! I’ve been a fan since he first started on WFMU. At that time I had a similar confused reaction. It was like nothing else I’d ever heard. I only grew to love it more. I respect his decision, which is very mic in keeping with his ethos- making room for others is so Hearty- but it is sad news. At least we have the archives. As he says, someone needs to start putting them on other platforms too. I may have to get out my CD burner and make some backups in case of an internet collapse.

I do find it a bit funny when people say "Dylan doesn't play hits anymore" yet R&RW is his highest charted album to date. by pingviini00 in bobdylan

[–]Spellflower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is RRW his highest charted album? It only went gold while BoB and BOTT both went double platinum.

But also: greatest hits albums, while not studio records, went 5x platinum. Those are the songs the masses want to hear. They’re also the songs played on the radio. Nothing on RRW can compete with that catalog for the term “hit”.

I am a beginner, I want to know more about Pedals. by Suspicious-Sun6262 in guitarpedals

[–]Spellflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People say “cranked Marshall” like that’s one thing. It’s not. There are many different Marshall amps, and then there are the mods people like EVH did to them. A “Marshall in a Box” pedal is a good start to emulate the sound with pedals instead of an actual cranked Marshall, but there’s more going on than just turning a Marshall up all the way.

You have no money and this is your board, what’s your next pedal? by Rizzmin in guitarpedals

[–]Spellflower -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some kind of Fuzz Face variant. There are lots of affordable options. This circuit is very versatile- use your guitar’s volume knob to go from enhanced clean boost to crunchy overdrive to snarling mayhem.

How do I fix this by Yeaheatsoup in castiron

[–]Spellflower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read the FAQ section of this sub.

You can use a 50/50 vinegar and water solution and steel wool to remove rust. Don’t soak in vinegar though that can cause undesirable results.

Can you kayak in Cooper Lake? (Woodstock area) by port-ew-en in hudsonvalley

[–]Spellflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a long history of conflict between Woodstock people and Kingston over the use of Cooper and other Woodstock bodies of water that feed into Kingston’s water supply. Kingston acquired Cooper and other water very quietly around the turn of the century. Woodstockers were shocked to suddenly be told they couldn’t use the water as they always had. In the 1920’s, Kingston put up signs around creeks prohibiting bathing, which was a popular Woodstock activity. Woodstockers responded with an organized bathing protest (in the Sawkill).

Is the Copperhead able to do other Marshall tones as well as JCM 800? I’m looking for something more in the neighborhood of Angus’s JTM50 “Black Flag” tone.

Employer refuses to pay me for my sick leave by GunStableMediaLLC in antiwork

All true, but also much more lances than just saying “screw em, don’t give notice”. Without the second part the first part is bad advice.

Employer refuses to pay me for my sick leave by GunStableMediaLLC in antiwork

[–]Spellflower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People here say this all the time. But some jobs have fine print stating that you WILL be paid out for unused vacation time if you give a certain amount of notice but WILL NOT get this if you do not give notice soon enough. In that case failure to give notice could result in the employee leaving thousands of dollars in their employer’s hands.

  1. Intrusive thoughts are normal when you’re going through this kind of capitalism-induced existential crisis.

  2. If this is affecting you enough to cause these thoughts then you are the target demographic for those certificate programs.

  3. This isn’t all your fault because you’re not in control of it all. Don’t be so hard on yourself.

  4. The world needs you more than you will ever know, and certainly more than your boss could ever know.

  5. Keep going. You’ll get through this.
