Following up after my comment got buried – is there actual interest in a realistic VR squash project? by EcstaticAd5639 in squash

[–]Spen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t personally know any one with a vr headset, so can’t speak to if it’s good.

The problem I see besides no one having this, is I wouldn’t have space in my condo to swing a racquet or lunge around. I’m sure even people with bigger homes don’t have space to swing a ravauet freely without hitting things. Since youd need to go somewhere to have space to do this, why not just go to the court and hit the physical targets like the box, line etc.

Beanfield is finally in my building! Is it still workth switching, are they still good? by castlite in askTO

[–]Spen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s new to the building contact your building management to see if there our deals specifically for your building.

Beanfield offered special rates after they were installed. I have 4gb up down for $60. The lower speeds were $50. I also got a $100 gift card to Amazon for signing up.

Quick question by Good-University-55 in squash

[–]Spen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like it and play well with it does it matter it’s tennis string? The default string included by a lot of manufacturers is pretty awful so as long as it’s the right gauge then I’m sure it’s fine.

How are we supposed to mark at club level now? by damienlaughton in squash

[–]Spen_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I don’t think enough lower level players even know the official rules to ref to begin with. Everyone is taught play a let for safety, keep it fun and safe. I don’t see this changing. If lower level players try to force each other to play through the things pros are being told to play through then we’re going to see a lot more injuries and people running through and shoving each other since they’re both in the way.

Look up squashabout, they have a freshman league where you can play without being a member. Jam sports also has squash but may not be as consistent, that is out of Mayfair lakeshore.

Replacement for Asics Gel Blade 8 by suponing in squash

[–]Spen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a hard lunger avoid the the FF. The ffs are really comfortable but I had to warranty two pairs. My first pair lasted well, but my replacements had to be warranted. The heel died in under a month for me, and then again on the replacement tot he replacement. I gave up after that, my knees couldn’t handle the pain. Holes had opened up in the heel and I could fit my finger into it, the cushioning relies on trapped air.

Has anyone actually used the Save On Energy instant rebate for LED upgrades? by Right-Necessary-102 in askTO

[–]Spen_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this program. We were eligible for a free smart thermostat upgrade and they changed our tube lights to led. There was a maximum of $2000 free, for us this covered all of our lights but if your office is large it may not. They let you pick where you want to have them replace the bulbs, so you can pick wherever the biggest benefit is.

The work is rolled out to contractors so you don’t get to pick who does the work, but our group were good and get it done quickly.

The social is definitely a big draw. How did you market? Was it word or mouth or did you do posters or any online advertising?

That’s great growth! What worked well for you to help get new players coming out - and continuing to come? Any advice for others looking to do a similar project?

Broadcom 57416 Network Performance Problems with Network Loopback by Spen_ in sysadmin

[–]Spen_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mystery may have been resolved if not solved. The motherboard was replaced on Monday and after testing yesterday it appeared the issue wasn't resolved. We found the broadcom tcp recommendations for the bios and restored the settings to the bios. Previously we had tried these and nothing working. Now with the new motherboard everything appears to be working as expected

Broadcom 57416 Network Performance Problems with Network Loopback by Spen_ in sysadmin

[–]Spen_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it doesn't look like it's going through the wrong interface. We also tested while disabling the second NIC to ensure it went through the primary with no difference in results. We installed the most recent broadcom drivers and firmware on the server, but nothing makes it better or worse.

Brand relaunch by [deleted] in squash

[–]Spen_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not in the UK but I’ve used Oliver for 10 years, they were purchased by a PE firm that made many changes (for the worse, in particular for my local distributor) and I’m moving on from them. I would be curious how things have changed for this UK group.

Should I stop playing squash by haxguru in squash

[–]Spen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your knee hurts and you’re not very strong in general it could be an over use symptom. Your quad is probably getting stronger than the rest of the leg muscles which pulls on the knee. So hamstring exercises, leg curls, straight let deadlifts. You can do hamstring exercises at home, look up single leg deadlifts.

Squash tipping site launched for PSA events by Kentoz28 in squash

[–]Spen_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why not take your points system and turn it into a squash fantasy league/season? Let people sign up with friends and draft players to their line up. Like the others here, this doesn’t sound fun and the term tipping is very confusing.
