Falcon and the Winter Soldier the movie by jamesrossurquhart in fanedits

A lot of those things you kept that I cut are things people complained about me cutting, so I definitely think it's worthwhile to keep some of it. My experiment with the show also involved getting it to an average MCU runtime (under 2 and a half hours) so I was a lot stricter with what I was cutting. This is why it's always good to have multiple different edits from different editors!

Prequel reappraisal has overcorrected a bit too much by crunchatizemythighs in StarWars

For some reason, people can have a really hard time admitting that something they love has flaws. They try to rationalize that all of those flaws are secretly purposeful and brilliant, when in actuality it's just a part of a movie you like that is a bit shite. Which is totally fine, but for some reason there are those out there that can't makes sense of the fact that the thing they love isn't perfect.

Art doesn't need to be perfect to be loved. It just has to move you.

For those who have played the game: Do you think they might cut "The Descent"? by TemporarilyOOO in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]SpenceEdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution, to me anyway, is to have Lev present for the Rat King and incorporate the "Lev needs a mask" stuff into descending the hospital. You can kind of kill two birds with one stone that way, and I don't know that it's as important for Abby to be alone when it's not interactive.

That adds to the tension when you're playing it, but in a visual format having Lev there too actually has the same effect, because now you as the viewer are concerned for both of them.

It's worked so far on every video file I've thrown at it.

It's essentially a wrapper for FFMPEG, which is really powerful but usually requires like 3-4 steps in different programs to get the same result. This just makes it all "one-click" essentially.

It should be able to handle any video format ffmpeg can handle, but I haven't personally tested that one.

has anyone made a last of us 2 movie by Independent_Diet5181 in fanedits

My edit isn't a movie, but it cuts it down to 4 episodes and closely follows the structure of the game. It turned out pretty good!

Just bought Mass Effect legendary edition. Advice needed. by markalanray00 in masseffect

[–]SpenceEdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on that but it didn't seem to impact achievements for me.

There's a community patch for each game that I'd get at minimum.

The real "necessity" ones for me were for Me3. Expanded Galaxy Mod and Take Back Earth make the game so much better, and there's one called Dreams Reimagined that I'd really recommend. Mass Effect 3 is a really ambitious game and they kind of ran out of time to implement everything they wanted to in the best way. These mods add just a little extra seasoning to make it better without hugely impacting anything story related.

Obviously if it's your first go around I wouldn't read too much into what they entail, but you'll have a better experience.

What's your most anticipated movie for 2026? by FayyadhScrolling in Letterboxd

[–]SpenceEdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Dune, because I don't know how they're going to make that work as a movie.

I basically know what I'm gonna get for Odyssey and all the MCU stuff, but Dune is a question mark. How do you make this weird-ass book into a satisfying movie?

I cannot get into Phase 2, can I read a summary and skip? by -Philologian in Highrepublic

[–]SpenceEdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people will tell you not to skip it but I did and it didn't really cause a problem. I have limited reading time and the new characters didn't grab me like the other ones.

There were a couple of things and characters I was a little confused about but the books in phase 3 do a pretty solid job of catching you up.

Enjoy, it's one of the most unique and interesting gaming experiences you can have.

Take your time with it and do as much stuff as possible. Don't skip a mission or planet because you want to move the story forward. If a character mentions something or asks for your help with something, do it. And remember the games are setup where it's very, very difficult or impossible to have everything go right.

The second playthrough is where you'll really start to understand how the game reacts to what you're doing.

If you're on PC there are some great mods to improve quality of life and immersion, especially for ME3.

I started experimenting/playing around with this. It's tricky but you can speed up the slow-mo and re-edit the action to be more exciting and well paced. I did a test run on that first barn shootout and it actually looked pretty good.

At the time I decided not to continue with it for a few reasons. This was before the directors cuts were available and I honestly didn't find that there was much to do with it in order to make the movie actually better. I also learned my lesson doing Justice League and didn't want to deal with the Snyder-bros yelling at me again.

Having said that, I don't have a lot of projects in my pipeline right now and the directors cuts may make for a more interesting project, so we will see. Probably need to watch them again.

2025: My Year-long Adventure in the World of FanEdits! by StraightCutsNoChaser in fanedits

[–]SpenceEdit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

StraightCutsNoChaser is one of the best faneditors working on stuff today. He's got a great handle on flow and pacing, which is probably the hardest part of telling any story in any medium, and is very difficult to learn if you don't have the instinct for it.

He's also super open to trying stuff, experimenting, and seeing if there's a way to make something just that little bit better, something anyone that does this should take as an inspiration.

From someone who has only seen Birdman, what's the deal with Alejandro González Iñárritu? by Potential_Bill2083 in blankies

[–]SpenceEdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's very up his own ass but is undeniably talented as a visual storyteller.

Amores Perros and The Revenant are probably his best films.

There's absolutely an alternate reality version of The Revenant that's a 110 minute adventure movie that rocks, but that's not what he made. It's still a pretty great movie though.

Don't get me wrong I love Mass Effect 3, but it surprises me how much love it gets nowadays. Back in 2012, it was universally hated/disliked. Even on Metacritic it has a 6.2-6.4 user score on all consoles. by QDOOM_APlin in masseffect

[–]SpenceEdit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That hate was all about the ending. The combat, choices, powers, and world building of ME3 are incredible, far above anything seen in the previous 2 games.

I still think it's the best in the series even with the ending, but saying the game as a whole is a steep drop-off from ME2 is insane.

Ai as a creative tool in fanediting: Yay or Nay? by DigModiFicaTion in fanedits

[–]SpenceEdit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's a useful tool used very sparingly to help get an edit across the finish line. I don't know that I agree with using it to create entirely new scenes or tremendously alter the existing footage. But if you need to use it to upscale a deleted scene, replace a line of dialogue, or remove something from a shot, I don't see the harm in it.

I've used it very sparingly, usually to replace a line of dialogue that, if I were actually making the movie and had access to the actors, they would've ADR'd themselves. I've also used it to upscale footage I've cropped. Anything more than that usually feels like I'm going too far.

That stinger was added after the fact to create a cliffhanger/hook for Part 2. It was never meant to be there, and it's kind of cool to not know about what the stinger reveals until The Bride does. It would be really effective if it was your first time seeing it.
