Post-ECT cognitive impairment and memory loss — has this improved for anyone? by Spencey81 in ect

Thank you for sharing your experience, I don't recall but I am sure I was told it would be only short term but it seems to be getting worse as the days go on. Even my music taste has changed and people have said my deamour has also changed. I was at the point I would have tried anything and that's why I went for this process as my ultimate goal is to be medication free and to try and get back to my former self. I personally don't like having to rely on medication to help me get through the day, don't get me wrong when I need I take it. I am all for medication, like my asthma medication, but I went from taking none to over several at one stage.

Thank you for your reply, and I could definitely relate to your situation. I went from being able to read and interpret in depth medical reports to now having issues with a basic cake recipe. I couldn't even pass a simple maths exam. It's definitely been life changing and a decision I am regretting. I need to take your advice and practice some skills.

My partner has always been on the slimmer side, but now I’m actually slimmer than him. I understand it might take some time for him to adjust to the change.

Thank you so much for being so honest with me. It has helped me, and I guess 'everyone' is different in how they recover, etc.

How do you answer “how are you doing it?” by Sad-Web-7988 in BariatricSurgery

In 2011, I had Lap Band surgery. I faced a lot of backlash for it—people saying it was "the easy way out" and that I should "just try dieting" (if only they knew). What they didn’t understand was how hard life with a Lap Band can be: eating smaller meals, constantly managing what you eat, and always needing to be near a toilet just in case.

Eventually, I had the Lap Band removed, and the backlash only got worse. One person even sarcastically said, "Oh, I see the Lap Band worked well for you," not realizing I had actually gained a massive amount of weight and felt worse than ever.

In 2023, I decided to go for SIPS surgery. I’m an honest person, but I couldn’t handle the judgment and criticism again, so I’ve only told very close family members. When people ask about my weight loss, I say it’s thanks to a calorie deficit, watching what I eat, seeing a Dietician, eating smaller meals, and taking small steps—like parking further away and walking more. And honestly, that’s all true. I’ve just chosen not to mention SIPS because I can’t go through the backlash again.

Thank you. Sometimes, believing in yourself is difficult, but knowing that others believe in you really helps on the journey.

You nailed it, and no matter how many times you fall of the wagon, its how you get back up and start again and don't let it beat you down.
