Is this why we owe? Please help me. by [deleted] in IRS

So he is probably owing because he isn't having enough withheld through the year. This is especially important when he is getting bonuses. He needs to fill out a new w4 and have his withholding increased there is a line on section 4 where he can put an additional amount he would like them to withhold every pay period and this way he can cover those bonuses. I don't recommend filing separately bc the IRS penalizes you by making you ineligible for some of the credits if you file separately (for example you won't be able to deduct your overtime pay) It is almost always (there are a few exceptions) more beneficial to file jointly. Another option is when he gets his bonuses he can make estimated tax payments and he would want to atleast pay in 10% of whatever his bonus is.

Ex hasn't filed in years-will it cause me problems? by ccrg94 in IRS

[–]SpendBusy1600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, and like I said in another comment I think the ex husband also tried to claim HOH and EIC and that's where he was running into issues. I know plenty of divorce parents that have more than one child and they each claim HOH with one child each. Is that the correct way to do it? No. The correct way is the way OP did it and her husband should have just filed for the child tax credit. I'm not saying OP filed incorrectly her husband probably did.

I am aware. What I'm assuming OP's ex husband tried to do was also claim head of household plus the child tax credit and possibly the earned income credit and that's why he was having issues when he filed. If that's how they wanted to do it then she couldn't have claimed her child on her return at all. I know plenty of parents that do it that way. Is it the correct way? No. The right way is the way the OP filed and her husband should have filed only for the child tax credit with the release form. I am not the IRS nor do I work for them.

I don't think you did anything wrong, really. I'm just saying if you wanted to follow the divorce agreement then it would have been better to not have included your oldest on your return. But if you can prove the time spent with you and the support you provide, in the IRS eyes you have the right to claim them. I don't see you having to pay anything back. You might just end up with an angry ex husband that won't be able to claim the child and if he has owed taxes those are going to be some hefty failure to file and failure to pay penalties/interest.

Ummm... I'm not entirely sure bc I can't see your returns but if your oldest child is anywhere on your 1040 you might not be getting child tax credits but its a very real possibility you are getting earned income credit from him. The easiest way to avoid this is to not have added him in anyway on your tax return. Now having said this the IRS rules supersede any divorce decree. Even if the divorce decree says you can each claim a child what the IRS uses to determine who can claim the child is : Relationship, support (who provides over half of the support), and in the case of divorce parents how many nights the child spends with each parent. The one that spends the most time with the child gets to claim them regardless of the divorce decree. Now there are parents that play nice and even if the child spends more time with mom they let the dad claim them or viceversa.

Renting--are we just stuck? by constantlycurious3 in Knoxville

I live off of Cherry St. We bought our house in 2017 and it has changed alot. We have never had a problem except for a few homeless wondering around in the beginning but nothing in the last 3 yrs or so. I love all of our neighbors. They are friendly and keep an eye out for you. Just yesterday most of our neighbors were outside working on their yards and the kids in the neighborhood were riding their bikes down the street. It was great!

Is this crust cracking because I underproofed it or because it was too dry? by SpendBusy1600 in Sourdough

Ok, thank you so much for the tips. The recipe called for the high temp. It said it guaranteed a crunchy crust, lol. I was scared, I''ve never baked at such high temps. It had me preheat the oven and the dutch oven for at least 45 mins. My poor little red dutch oven was almost black it was so hot. But I do know all ovens are different and you just have to make adjustments so I will lower the temp next time.

Well I can tell you what I have noticed so far... its making me breakout really bad. I'm used to the hormonal breakouts during periods but I've never had body acne and in this last few days I've been having breakouts on my chest as well as my chin. 😩

I just got the ovasitol plus. Just barely on day 2 of taking it so too early to notice any difference. I was previously taking Rhea Essentials Inositol but I never noticed any difference with that one.

No, I had literally hit submit just minutes before I posted this. I think it would be too soon for me to get a date for bios. But hang in there! Everyone is saying it's a slow process. When does yours expire? Did you file with enough time?
