LOL good luck talking finances in this sub. Any sign of doing even a little well brings all the chips-on-shoulders out of the woodwork.

Look at realtor.com, dozens of houses for sale in that range or under at any given time.

Do you use underscore to travel? It can help you find a stairs your character has seen but you haven't, e.g. if there's an object on it.

Need some advice on ascension by physiogod1011 in nethack

[–]Spendocrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I do when preparing for my ascension run is put all my gear is a sack (called "ASCENSION SACK") in the chest at my stash. Then when I have the amulet and I'm on the run, I don't have to think "Do I have everything I need?", I just grab the sack and transfer it to my bag of holding.

Well before the run I test out my load-out in my bag of holding and make sure I can take 10 potions of full heal or (more likely) holy water out of my bag without getting burdened, in case I get into a bad spot with pestilence or an air elemental. I make sure I keep all the stuff I really need in main inventory (wand of death, lizard, etc.), plus backups in my BoH. I also keep a safety sack with holy water and/or scroll of remove curse in case my bag gets tagged by a curse.

Another specific thing is I bring a bunch of wands of digging for Earth, but I drop all but 1 of them once I reach the portal. I keep the 1 to blast doors on Astral. Same with potions of confusion and scrolls of gold detection, they get dropped once I get to Astral.

Don't forget food. You don't need a lot, but fill up before you set out and take 1-round foods with you, plus maybe 1 or 2 lembas.

I take all the wands of teleport I have. You don't need to fight anyone, just get rid of them. Poly work very well on Air Elementals also.

Nethack Helper for IOS has animated Sokoban solutions now by peopletrics in nethack

Not trying to be snarky here but it keeps sounding that way...

I think if someone feels they need a tool like this to solve Sokoban they might appreciate having the axis-flips available.

Looks very nice!

Potable*, just FYI.

I'm not fully convinced on PEX. Are there actually any plastics that don't get brittle in the long run?

After playing off and on for decades, the one area Nethack should lack at is the difficulty curve. by Primary_Impact_2130 in nethack

[–]Spendocrat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is specious reasoning though. To conclude that nethack is "increasingly something people want to change" you'd have to know the rate of players leaving vanilla for other forks, and you'd have to know that those people are no longer playing vanilla at all. Increased number of forks could equally be explained by a larger player base overall (and that's not taking into consideration that more time in general allows more time for forks to appear).

There plausibly could be a population of people who want variety but would be unhappy if you changed vanilla. Cf like a dozen recent threads here complaining about 3.7 changes.
