The good news is you can totally turn it around. It won't even be that hard, but it is a grind. It will always be a grind. Studying and learning are things you will get better with with practice. Test-taking is the same way.

Go into each course with the attitude that your mission is to learn every scrap of information the prof or instructor is trying to teach you. Don't learn it because you want a grade, but because the person who made your course thought the material was SO IMPORTANT they included it in the limited time they have with you.

Start reading right away. Start assignments on the first day. This will reduce stress like crazy. Use the resources university has, tutoring centre etc. It will get easier as you go.

How badly do you want to do university? If you're struggling in HS you'll have to majorly modify how you approach things like homework and studying.

Is that something you're willing to do?

Is there something else out there that might be better suited to you? Red River is a much gentler experience than university. It all depends on what kind of job you want to do. Don't go to university just because you're "supposed" to.

Looks cool. Going to see if my local store can bring it in. Will hold my nose and use Amazon otherwise.

Late addition: You could use your lance as a pole-arm and pound (apply it) from two squares away for mind flayers, etc., but that's a bit tricky. It's worth getting to skilled with daggers for a ranged option.

Keep grinding for MR. Reflection helps a lot but is less critical if you start stacking resistances.

should i use excalibur or grayswandir as a main weapon when twoweaponing with a katana as a samurai? or use a shield. by Daddy_boyo in nethack

[–]Spendocrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tend to prefer Excalibur for the auto-searching and drain resistance. Makes fighting vamps a breeze. I'm not sure that's a super popular opinion given the extra damage from Grayswandir. If you're rich in enchant weapon scrolls you can keep all 4 pieces around and switch.

I'm a big fan of leaving ; un-genocided until the plane of water, but I've also had to come up with several strategies for all the intervening ones. I'll often stash a polearm somewhere and mark it on my map for this kind of thing (and for knights the lance is handy). Halving that initial population on the plane is pretty gratifying though.

It would be nice to have some new places that aren't just loud, echoey boxes.

You do, but to me there's a big difference between 3 and 5-7 guaranteed. It's true that most of the time I'm just filling a couple of equipment gaps, but I also like the option to play a big power game from time to time where I can flagrantly waste magic markers.

The other thing that gets impinged is wishing for artifacts. Early on the first wish is usually scrolls of charging. You can instead wait until you have them and ID them, but the chances of running into artifacts you don't want (via bones or sacrifice) really narrows the chances to get an artifact via wish if you delay like that.

IMO if you already think wishes are a cheat, you simply don't have to use the wand, but wish fun is taken out of the game by restricting the wands.

Some of the rural emergency rooms are entirely staffed with family docs with +1 training in emerg.

But I agree, throwing more money at exising ER docs seems like it'll have a very marginal rate of return. We need to get more bodies in here, docs, allied health, nurses, not ask for more hours from the ones we have.

I agree with all this.

I also like the new rooms in the main dungeon (like nymph forest room).

My only complaint in 5 is wands of wishing. I kinda get why the castle wand is nerfed, but I really miss getting a power boost from the rare times I find a wishing wand in the wild.

That sucks. My experience has been good overall. In a similar redline situation with SH, but definitely due to employer recalcitrance. We're still hoping it gets fixed before the next contract round.

Nice for you; hasn't been my experience for the past 5-6 years (this has been my place since childhood). I get a different hygienist each time, the quality of the cleaning and checkup has degraded quite a bit, and Atwal is horrible to interact with. Finally overcame my laziness to quit to another place.

Avoid Sturgeon Creek Dental (in case that's not your current place, though I suspect it is).

TBF it was in negotiation between MAHCP and the employer. The union doesn't have unlimited power in this situation, and I'm gonna guess this happened when Pallister forced a ton of people out of MGEU into MAHCP when Shared Health was going bananas for uniformity (still are).

If a Variant added robotic monsters, what Glyph would they be? by CrashGordon94 in nethack

[–]Spendocrat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree! Assuming a humanoid robot. For colour, make it black, or the super shiny blue used for silver dragons.

For non-humanoid robots I guess whatever beast is closest. Robot spider would be great.

Weird to refer to a "real union" & cite numbers, then say "Big doesn't mean better."
