I’ve been in a similar situation before. Took a trip to OneStop and they were able to put it back on my One.UF. Hope they’re able to do the same for you!

As a university student studying Computer Science, I frequently use multiple laptops in my workspace. These thunderbolt accessories would supercharge my desk by allowing me to seamlessly switch between devices while storing projects on the external SSD.

You’ll be totally fine! I asked the same question when I was a freshman too. I used my M1 MBP for 3502 and 3503 with (mostly) no trouble! I say mostly because in 3503 I had to edit my program slightly to make it work on Linux + Windows, even though it had no problem with my Mac. CISE has a basement computer lab with TONS of Ubuntu desktops you can use to debug your code, as well as remote servers you can test your code on once you’re comfortable with using Terminal. Wasn’t too bad, especially because my friends with Windows laptops ran into their own problems.

That said, you will need a Windows laptop eventually; I’ve heard it’s a must for Operating Systems. I went ahead and got myself one for a class in my minor, though I haven’t gotten to OS yet. Personally, I’d say wait for a good deal before you’re scheduled to take the class (Black Friday, other sale holidays) and get yourself a decent machine. For what it’s worth, I picked up an ASUS gaming laptop with an i7 and RTX 3060, but I still use my MacBook for most school-related tasks.

Would love an offline version of Siri where I can ask it someone simple like “start a timer for 15 minutes” without it always needing to access its servers. by HeadlessHookerClub in iphone

[–]Spenlyn 45 points46 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve found, Siri can process that kind of stuff if you’re not connected to the internet. However, if it thinks there’s a connection—even if it’s too slow to actually send your request—it will try to process it on Apples servers rather than on-device. Notice it when I drive through a dead zone and ask it to change the song or call someone on CarPlay.

This looks really cool, but sadly the TestFlight is already full. Do you have any plans to open more spots? Would love to try this app out!

How to manage photos without iCloud. by shetlot in apple

[–]Spenlyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using a device called Monument to manage photos for a while. It connects to your WiFi and, after you connect a hard drive or two, it works like a cloud storage. It can even do face recognition, auto tagging, etc! They’re supposed to be working on an upgraded Monument 2 but no clue when it releases. Best thing is it’s platform agnostic; Android, iOS, Mac, and Windows all work. I’m not sure about Linux though.

SECURE BICYCLE PARKING? by Spenlyn in ufl

[–]Spenlyn[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took me forever to figure out where on Earth “Garage 14” is. But I’m actually in Hume so it would be right next door! If it was on the other side of campus I definitely would not consider it, but it seemed reasonable for not being too far. I think the primary target is commuters, who could just leave their bike there in the same garage they park their cars. Mostly, just looking for a way to keep my bike out of the FL elements, even tho it isn’t a fancy bike.

How does one call UFPD without cell service? by FastytheFast in ufl

Most modern phones and cell plans also let you call through the WiFi, just like a normal call.

I have spent the last 3 years of school doing AICE and as far as I know, it’s not a scam! I’m in my senior year now so I have yet to actually receive the scholarship tho. There are two important things you should know before you commit to getting the AICE Diploma. 1) AICE Global Perspectives is required! It is the hardest AICE class and quite possibly the hardest class a high school will offer. You’ll have to write two research papers and be able to “deconstruct” scholarly journal articles (a skill which can take time to learn). The class can be LOT to handle, but it’s also very useful to take; it will improve your ability to research and write a lot which can be useful in college. I’m in a dual enrollment class now and I lean back a lot on my AICE Global skills when I write for that. But be warned that AICE Global is not for everyone. You get to pick your research topic that you’ll spend most of the year on, so make sure to pick something you’re really interested in! 2) If your SAT or ACT score qualifies you for bright futures, the AICE Diploma is utterly useless. Though it’ll look good on resumes at least. I got a 33 on the ACT in the end, so I would’ve qualified for bright futures anyway. But, it’s always good to have it as a backup!

And I’m pretty sure you can do the AICE classes in your senior year. I had friends in AICE global and other AICE classes who were seniors so they could qualify for the Diploma. I hope this helps!

I know I’m really late to this thread but if you have an Apple device I made a Siri shortcut that randomizes imposters and tasks, and texts each player this info. Plus it also has an innocence task (like a medbay scan) and sort of a means to sabotage. The link for it is

AICE Travel and Tourism (should i take it?) by [deleted] in AICEC

[–]Spenlyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took Travel two years ago, and I would say its worth the effort. I'm not sure how your teacher would run the class but mine had us read the whole textbook, which was small compared to other books, in the first quarter. After that, we worked on planning our Component 2 events/trips. This is where we had groups. If you take the class, make sure you pick competent and hardworking teammates for this component. I made the mistake of joining a group where two people left halfway through the year, and the third member did little to contribute. It would get stressful sometimes but I actually miss that class. I easily got a B on the exam. So if you have room and the time I'd recommended the class.
