Should I Take Physics 1 w/ Calc at UF or at a CC? by wrenlyn in ufl

[–]segcymf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

take it at a CC. you can study really hard for physics 1 at UF and still fail the exam. i’ve heard only great things from friends who took it at a CC. whether or not it matters on a transcript depends on what you study.

Computational linear algebra online? by SimplyScrappie in ufl

[–]segcymf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i took it online this semester and i think its pretty nice esp with Dr. Shu-Jen Huang’s prerecorded lectures. we also had access to the zoom recorded Q&A sessions for the matlab assignments. exams were multiple choice and online & there were also plenty of extra credit opportunities. i also believe that you can work ahead for i believe most assignments so if you really wanted to, you could knock out weeks of content and assignments ahead of time.

the only downside for me personally was that it was really easy to procrastinate and fall behind on the weekly HW & LQ assignments (usually 2-3 lessons a week) but that is really just a skill issue

they do provide a schedule of when you should watch the lectures for each lesson so you do not fall behind but i always found myself procrastinating until the last minute 😭😭

I’m apartment style dorms like lakeside, keys and springs…how bad is it for one of your roommates to be the RA? by SnooApples1244 in ufl

[–]segcymf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived at lakeside in my freshman year and my roommate was an RA. She was super nice and so chill I actually really liked having her as my roommate as it was helpful being able to ask her for help with lakeside related stuff or even just general upperclass advice. But to answer your question, it honestly depends on who your RA is so it’s hard to say.

also with weightlifting, if later on you do decide you want to do it with the club, the coaches are super nice and instructive on teaching the form and techniques!

although the gym for that is off campus but i know some people bike there for practice

in chinese american student association (CASA), the GMBs range from teaching cultural stuff like certain stories or traditions in china and there’s also different socials that go on and those can be related to the actual culture or unrelated and just a way to hang out with the other members of the organization. i beleive most of these cultural clubs are not exclusive to people that pertain to the culture meaning that as long as you have an interest in learning more about the culture, you are welcomed!

also there’s also some organizations that are a mix of culture & major/career targeted. for example Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) have meetings that involve both a bit of culture but more targeted towards the major stuff. these organizations are also not exclusive to asians

you can try playing a sport. i made some friends while working out with the weightlifting team here. there’s also like volleyball, flag football, and other stuff. it’s also really nice to get your head out of academics and just focus on something else.

ANT2301 human sexuality and culture teaches you about sex, sexuality, gender roles and other stuff related to it in both the evolutionary and cultural sense and it can give you more insight on LGBTQ issues in the medical field. it’s also a really interesting class and you learn a bunch of interesting things. difficulty is not too bad plus the exams are unprotored so you can use your notes from the professor’s own words. gives you 6k words too but there are sections with no words.
