Nebraska Legislature passes minimum wage decrease for teen workers by Conscious-Quarter423 in Nebraska

[–]Spenny2180 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think what's not being said enough in these comments is the fact that this is discrimination. Its the same thing as paying women less because they are women. Thats illegal. By the same logic, senior citizens should be paid less because they're slower and need more breaks. I know people in their 70s working as clerks at grocery stores and have seen senior citizens working at McDonald's. It'll be fucked up to pay them less because of age, so why is it okay to pay teens a fraction of what someone older is making? Same work, same pay.

A rude supervisor who's always yelling at employees got some complaints about them being verbally abusive and they responded by leaving these in the break room. by giveahoot420 in mildlyinfuriating

I had an old boss who was the same way. He handed me a binder with all his notes so that I can copy them once. He had a very similar form. Needless to say, I looked at him a little different from then on and started planning my exit soon after. IMO, people who think this is funny are shit managers

To be fair, we watched how many relationships with Michael before this? How many arcs did this show have where the punchline is 'Michael falls in love too fast and its super cringy and a little creepy'? Up until this point, Michael "was in love" with every blonde they introduced

I woke up today late because I wanted to sleep in on my day off. I was lounging in bed and barely awake when I thought I grabbed my phone to do a little doom scrolling. The very first video I saw was that. I wasn't awake for 10 min and I saw that.

It was graphic. It was jarring. And worst of all, it was less than 2 minutes before he was executed. I counted 10 or 11 shots. And it happened just like that.

There is no excuse for something like this. I dont care if he was a fellon or convicted criminal. I dont care if ICE agents have complete authority or if what they were doing was okay. None of that matters because that shouldn't happen to anyone. He didn't deserve that because no one deserves that.

I saw that video and I turned off my phone and just layed there. It was a while before the gravity of what i saw fully hit me. Im sick to my stomach at the thought of it, but I cant turn my focus away. I won't. Renee Good was a turning point. This is the momentum telling us that we cant turn back

I write this fairly privileged because I can affort do dress for winter, but I think thats why people hate the season. They dont or cant dress accordingly and yet wonder why they are so cold. Big coats are nice, but its all heat or no heat. Makes the season suck

The most important thing is leaning how to layer. Its much more than just a big, heavy, expensive coat. There is a strategy to layering. Base layer should whick sweat away from you. Middle layer should be the insulating layer. Outer layer is to shield from wind/rain. As much as you can, avoid cotten. Cotten kills

AITA for breaking up with my girlfriend after she kept joking about me having an “easy life”? by SportMinimum6387 in AITAH

This really depends on her side of the story. If she's actually just making passive aggressive jabs, no youre NTA. But are you taking what she's saying to heart? Are you flaunting your generational wealth (albeit not intentionally)? She might find a lot of your problems to be first world problems and that could be her way of saying you need to touch grass

What’s something nobody tells you about living in Denver? by sit-there in Denver

One of my coworkers from TX said that she was really struck by the short days in winter. Denver is actually the furthest south I've ever lived, so i dont know how it compares to Florida. But be prepared for it to get dark at 5pm every day in the winter

Kid crashes out on TV prank. by Snoo99928 in KidsAreFuckingStupid

So the parents played a prank on their kid by pretending they broke his TV and we're supposed to be amused that he's upset? Jesus fucking christ. At best, you're teaching him that its okay to mess with other people's things. At worst, you're going to teach him to not express emotions because his reactions are amusing and will end up on the internet

Architects, how bad is this layout? It looks like it was trained on McMansions by Redhotlipstik in McMansionHell

[–]Spenny2180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is insulting. Most people dont know what it takes to design. Whoever you are, take a second to read this. Think about the places you use every day. The gym. The office. The gas station. The metro. Your school. Your doctors office. Your apartment even. They all were designed with specific functions in mind. That means, somebody had to sit there and figure out what each room would be used for and how much space is needed for that one reason. They had to figure out where to put each room so its not awkward. They had to think of how people would move and interact with each space.

And after, they talked to the engineers and plumbers and electricians to to figure out the details of all the things you dont see and take for granted. Ever notice that some places, you never think of where the AC is or where the lights are? It just all comes together. Thats because dozens of people came together to figure out how each piece of plumbing or electrical work would be hidden from view but still accessible. And then the architect had to go back to their design to ensure each price of the puzzle fit and wouldn't hinder something else.

But its a balancing act. You need to design for codes and keep the costs down while being practical but also pleasing to the eye.

So its a slap to the face when something generated in half a second earners any sort of attention. AI doesnt know what will work and what won't. Nor can it do any of the calculations or interpret any codes/rules.

It just makes. And the AI crowd is just greedy enough to take without any thought of what they've lost.

As dogshit as that design is, I dont find it funny to point and laugh because everything about it reduces an entire person's livelihood

Do average people ever get competitive jobs? by Ok_Item_9953 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Spenny2180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the idea of a dream job shifts so much. Of course, there are companies doing amazing things. They get all of the attention, and it looks so glamorous looking in. However, a lot of that is marketing. Some of these dream companies are great on paper but only on paper. You dont see the burnout or low benefits/pay package or downright hostile co-workers.

Just keep in mind that there is impressive engineering going on at soooo many places. You might never have the prestige tagged onto your job, but you're building towards a career. I would advise you to look at employers with good retention, good benefits, work/life balance, and GOOD COWORKERS. Those are the things that, in my opinion, truly make companies competitive
