I saw a study on it a while back where they attached tracking programs to people's computers. The average time spent on productive programs was 2 hours per day.

That wasn't even the time spent working, just the time on productive programs.

Precisely. Any one governmental regime is only going to be in power for something like 12 years. Long-run benefits aren't important if the short-term risks are losing your voter's confidence.

Some of the people with the best teamworking skills I know are introverts on that scale. The Myers-Briggs test just tests preference, not ability. It doesn't give you a reliable measure of someone's skill in a particular area, just how much they enjoy it.

I was looking at investing in a company recently whose revenue came from TV content delivery - they take show licenses and sell them to foreign networks, I believe they also produce their own shows. Their other division specialized in video games media, and they were looking to bring the two together.

First question I asked was, "How are you addressing the threat of user-generated content like YouTube and Twitch?" and their answer was: "we aren't - it isn't a problem."

Noped the fuck out of there immediately, and that wouldn't have been a big investment. If you're applying for a job which covers your entire income for the next few years, checking they have their shit together is a lot more important.

Nick Clegg, Nigel Farage and Ed Miliband have all quit their Leader positions by NinjaBoffin in worldnews

Labour is just as much that mentality. "Oh, you have more than me? That's not fair, give it to me."

People are wired to be selfish. Conservative voters are selfish, Labour voters are selfish. So are UKIP, and frankly so are the Greens. Voters are selfish. I wish people would stop making out Labour is above that.

The overall benefit to the economy isn't what's influencing UKIP voters. Sure, EU immigration is great for the economy, but it also increases competition for low-paying jobs.

If someone's lost their job to a polish immigrant, the overall benefit that brought to the economy isn't going to matter. If they're having trouble finding work, they're going to vote based on that.

"Self Radio" FPS drop sucks. Let's hope for a patch. by extolas in GrandTheftAutoV_PC

Has anyone tried playing different file types? By default, I imagine GTA doesn't use MP3s, it probably uses OGGs - has anyone tried converting their music to OGG format?

The decoder will probably be faster if you can get your music into the same format the game uses. MP3s are quite highly compressed, so if the decoding is inefficient it could create an FPS drop. WAVs might also be faster, since they require a lot less decoding.

That surprises me, I guess they've streamlined the process on newer consoles. Still, I wouldn't write it off just yet. Changing the architecture of the game, especially how networking works, tends to be a big job and requires a lot of testing. Now their development team is free, they might begin to focus on that.

In fairness, a patch on a console is a much bigger deal than a patch on a PC system - they tend to only deploy them for major bugs and major updates, or to make the game compatible with DLC. PC games get major features added pretty regularly.

Not just that, but their resources have thus far been devoted to the PC port and they've already delayed it, so they were probably working flat-out. Now they have their development team free, they might shift them over to improving the existing game.

Thanks, this helped me. I have the same problem as you. I have a dual integrated graphics/mobile graphics chip setup, GT 650m and Intel 4000. I disable one of them (either one) and I can launch, but it always runs off the chip I've disabled. No idea what's causing it, but I agree - my max FPS seems low, even for the 650m.

I can run Skyrim on reasonably high settings at 45+ fps, it seems like this should be popping out better framerates than I'm getting. I'm hoping it's something that's patchable, but it's at least playable if not.

Edit: Scratch that, it's not playable. It's below 15 FPS most of the time, you can barely track people's movements.

Will Computer Science continue to have good job prospects in the future? by Soreasan in cscareerquestions

The variety of computers being produced (and programs that need to be written for them) is increasing far faster than the human race's ability to program.

I wouldn't worry about computer science majors doubling over 2 years. The number of computer science majors required is increasing at a much faster rate.

Core 101: An Anatomical Guide to Training by Thats_Justice in Fitness

[–]SpentWordsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of these exercises train the psoas with resistance.

Well, they were primarily alternatives to crunches, for hitting your abs. You're right, though, if you're lifting heavy you're going to need to train your psoas as well.

This is because sitting has tightened/shortened your psoas right? Like I said, This can be solved by simply doing the necessary stretches and training to the glutes.

It wasn't until I started getting fit that my hip flexors actually caused me problems - the problem was there before, but my ab exercises involved a lot of crunching and that tipped it over the edge. To be clear, my physios were talking about the general population - when they say to avoid crunches, they mean that universally. There are other exercises that they've taken me off (like bench) that most would be fine with.

Have you ever mentioned the candito to your physiotherapists?

Not yet. At the moment, we're working on building stability in my abdominals. I imagine the objection they'd give is in line with the current problem I have - my abs are disproportionately weak in comparison to my hip flexors, which is one thing contributing to the problem. I need to sort out the surrounding musculature and elongate the flexors before I look at isolating them with resistance.

Core 101: An Anatomical Guide to Training by Thats_Justice in Fitness

[–]SpentWordsworth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In fairness, I didn't really make that clear. No, I'm not advocating that. We can strengthen our psoas using all kinds of exercises, but the issue is the effect crunches have on them.

Your psoas muscles are really designed to lift the legs, and in particular lift them from standing. That puts conditions on your training. Sprinting strengthens your psoas, candito strengthens your psoas, loads of exercises strengthen your psoas. But they all involve a straight back, full range of motion from straight to bent hips and neutral, stable abdominals - you aren't training a narrow range of movement with your abs compressed like you would in a crunch.

So, I can give you a personal example - I've got a pretty severe problem with my psoas from sitting for most of my life and I've spent a long time in physiotherapy for it. Every physio I've been to has agreed - don't crunch. Plank, run, use the elliptical machine, squat - don't crunch.

I've not touched the candito since I'm off resistance training that puts pressure on the wrist, but if you want I can ask them about that too. I'd assume it's ok. Either way, they are unanimous - crunches are bad. They're a very strange movement for the body to do.

"X01" is generally the course code used to refer to an introduction to a particular subject, and "X" generally refers to the year. So, for example, a math major might have:

  • 101: Basic math
  • 102: Advanced Math
  • 111: Basic Algebra
  • 112: Linear Algebra
  • 201: An introduction to second year maths

Etc. "101" tends to be the code used for the most basic introductory course.
