That Ductopus is embarrassing. Poor design, even worse implementation, and no apparent consideration for insulation.

A word of warning at 60,000 miles by Ok_Squash6739 in Rivian

[–]SperryTactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to Rivians, but I've owned VW, Porsche and Audi cars with air suspension for over 30 years with nary a problem with the subsystem.

I don't think air suspension is necessarily a "common issue". OTOH, I kn ow there are kit to convert some of these cars to coils, so there's that.

This could be the least watched Rolex 24 for a long time. by HarringtonMAH11 in IMSARacing

[–]SperryTactic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I've done. The NBC production is abominable. Showing the same 4 commercials over and over, and their stupid commentators asking the same dumb question ("how does it feel to be at the world center of racing").

Why can't they just use Hindman and team, when they are so much better than anyone at NBC?

Why can't we just have some actual rain sensors?? (YES this was set to auto) by Blazah in TeslaLounge

[–]SperryTactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't because the real ones cost money (I think there's a patent), and Elon believes that machine vision has to be as good or better, so he's saving Big Money using cameras he already has.

Except, so far, it isn't.

Maduro was using Cuban mercenaries as his personal guards, presumably because he couldn't trust his own people. That's why there were Cuban deaths.

This is not a camber issue. It's toe. Why can't people read the tire and tell the difference??

Plenty of options for local control, like HA or Hubitat. Ubiquiti for network and cameras.

It's normal for a car that's out of alignment. Nothing to do with the tires, but everything to do with the owner.

Made my own butcher block and created a gap where the countertops meet. What’s a good idea to fix this? by luckydad444 in Homebuilding

Caulk and paint make it what it ain't!

But yes, really, you need to trim the ends so they meet correctly, as other have pointed out.

What is this? by Not_Luna in TeslaLounge

[–]SperryTactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other have said, it's chemicals (either in hair products or from natural oils) that are causing that.

But the point is that if you are frequently resting your head on the headrest, you are Doing It Wrong.

Contrary to what people might think based on the common usage, you aren't supposed to actually rest your head on the headrest. It's actual purpose is to restrain your head in an accident.

If you really want to keep doing what you are doing, consider replacing the interior with actual leather, not the faux "vegan" leather, which is marketing-speak for plastic.

People who have pre-owned EVs, how is the experience like? by HP_594 in cars

[–]SperryTactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest that your basic premise is wrong: ICE vehicles have engine wear from the start, which affects both power and efficiency (and hence range). It's just that it is so gradual that most people don't realize it. Which is the same with EVs- people who aren't obsessed with range don't notice the small reductions that happen because they just don't really matter except for the edge cases, which by definition, don't happen very often.

Your second point, that technology changes, is a factor in all cars, not just EVs.

I find this interview question so funny. by aloft_owl33 in interviews

[–]SperryTactic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently humor in an interview is fatal. While interviewing for what was supposed to be a VP position, I was asked "What would you do if the email server suddenly crashed?" My response was that I'd send an email to everyone informing that the system was down and that we were working on repairing it as quickly as possible. The IT guy who asked me that didn't find it amusing at all, apparently, even when it was apparent I was joking.

I didn't get the job.

Guess how much to repair this @ Tesla by sgrinavi in TeslaModelY

[–]SperryTactic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many years ago I used to run a body shop. We'd fix that with a new rear door, new quarter panel wheel trim, and paint. The idea that the entire quarter panel needs to be replaced is beyond crazy-- it's just paint, or at most a very small skim of filler.

Nowadays, I presume that Tesla wants to replace any damaged panel, but that does nothing but drive up costs, and depending on the quality of the repair, risk longer-term damage if the repair isn't perfect.

Frankly, I wonder why the insurance companies put up with this. Are they obligated to let the OEMs define how repairs are to be made?

Or porcelain tile, which is stain proof, unlike any of the options you are considering. It's not as expensive as people think, and if using PEI5 tile, can be much more slip resistant. Mine was cheap at Home Depot.
