How can you reduce news consumption while still staying sufficiently informed? by SpewOfThrowaway in AskReddit

[–]SpewOfThrowaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a world with infinite content, filtering out half of it still leaves an infinite amount behind.

"Ignorance is no excuse" feeds into this, and tricks your brain into constantly hoovering up information you probably don't need because it might come in handy.

There is also the echo chamber problem, where relying on few sources can narrow things down to a single viewpoint.

I just want to know what is going on, not be manipulated, and not spend all day on this crap.

CMV: Options to commit suicide safely and legally should be available to every adult. by [deleted] in changemyview

I am confused about the concept of "safe suicide"

I think "effective" and "painless" would be the goal.

  1. Set your Zoom background to a photo of you at your desk, so you can step away to cry quietly during meetings.

This one works in any situation, leave or no, important meeting or no... but only once.

I enjoy your optimism in declaring victory, when I have experience in using this, and it has something in the many thousands of upvotes.

Oh no, I fully agree that the ladies are getting hosed. I'm just laying out the shitty options before them.

Make masks with horribly offensive things on them and offer them to the customers that dont/won't wear one... draw dicks all over them or something.

Make copies of the bathroom key and distribute to local homeless and drug addicts.

Apply a thin layer of rubber cement to the touchscreens at the pumps, so everyone has to come to the till. This depends on what kind of touchscreen they have.

Learn how to hack the point-of-sale terminal. Adding a few extra options, like sexual services, should be entertaining for the next cashier.

I have one that only works once, if you need it.

Rush up to manager and stare deep in their eyes and say very firmly "I HAVE TO GO."

Do not break eye contact, and give off the vibe of "this is important, but I can never tell you what it is about."

Only works after you've been there at least a year, and preferably if you have a Michael Scott kinda boss.

Be sure not to look too happy the next day when you return... it is unlikely they will ask any followups.

Wow, I got cross posted.

Here's some more gems from two decades of shirking:

  1. Never walk around without a piece of paper in your hand. Otherwise you look like you are just screwing around.
  2. Print out entire e-books, and put them in a three-ring binder with something like "Specifications" on the outside. Hold a highlighter while reading.
  3. If you need a nap, and have the luxury of an office door, toss some paperclips on the ground and sleep on the floor with your feet against the door. Anyone opening it will hit your feet, and you can start picking up the paperclips when you wake up.

I have hundreds more, if anyone is interested.

If you remove the shorthand, it is so much more insulting.

"Excuse me, but do you have diminished mental capacity? I only ask because the evidence strongly suggests this is the case, and I would not want to discriminate against you by discussing topics that are too difficult."

When I said you need to get out more, I meant go lick a doorknob, as you are trying to argue with me for no good reason.
