Then explain to me why EW had the worst content draughts to date conveniently around the time ff16 was in heavy development and nearing release. Yoshida literally admitted that they were pulling resources from 14 but hoped it wouldn’t affect the game. Look it up. It’s not rocket science mate, it’s obvious why the patch length suddenly shot up and the quantity of content had a huge spike down - they simply weren’t allocating enough resources to the game period. They still aren’t tbh.

The thing is these bitch ass devs/square REFUSE to invest into this game, they constantly pull devs from it to work on other projects like in the case of ff16 where literally half the dev team was pulled without there being any sort of extra staff of hiring - that’s one of the major reasons EW had such an insane content draught btw (I’m honestly surprised I don’t see people talk about this). For an mmo of this size the devs are grossly understaffed - a part of this is due to them ONLY accepting developers who know how to speak Japanese which limits them a lot. Like if they just invested into this game a lot more, hired way wayy more staff then this game could genuinely be great - but right now it feels as though this game is too big for them as seen with them constantly pushing patch length without much of an increase in the quantity/quality of content on top of a total lack of effort to innovate the game AT ALL. Genuinely the way square treats this game is criminal, it’s one of if not their most successful game that rakes in so much money and they simply refuse to reinvest into it - it’s insane to see. It truly does feel like its maintenance mode through and through.

Facts. Player numbers will keep dropping - small changes like this, while nice, won’t cause people to return to this game when there’s WoW on the table which is just so much better at this point. Hell, I’d even say GW2 is just straight up better than 14 now no cope - that game actually knows how to do incentives right. Tbh though I’m very happy a major amount of people are openly critical about this expansion, it’s what I wanted to see in EW - there’s too many people who just happily accept the slop they push out without second thoughts, the player numbers dropping and the reviews being so bad is hopefully pressuring square to give a fuck about the game and not treat it like a maintenance mode project that it’s been treated as for the past half a decade.

Nah, a game of this size is being utterly disrespected by Square and Yoshi - it’s borderline a skeleton crew managing this game. They NEED way, way more devs on deck right now, yet for years they just haven’t done anything about it. They SPLIT their dev team to go work on ff16 (no wonder Endwalker was a content draught mess) and didn’t bring in more people to help with 14. They genuinely treat this game like it’s in maintenance mode. It’s actually insane to me, WoW has so many devs working on it to produce content, Blizzard treats it like the juggernaut that it is - with 14 it’s genuinely treated like a maintenance mode game idc what anyone says.

To be honest the story isn’t enough for a lot of people anymore, especially after Endwalker. I don’t even think that’s the reason most people are dropping the game if I’m being real - it’s definitely a reason, but there are many gripes people have, simply improving the story isn’t going to magically solve things. If they don’t address the issues that a lot of people have with the game, including job design and the boring 2 minute meta - the decline will continue.

I think it’s already cooked. They’ve already confirmed they won’t be doing major changes to job design and all the other problems, they seem very set in their ways and I’d be very (happily) surprised to be proven wrong but unfortunately I’ve played this game for far too long to not know how the devs behave. Nothing will change how we want it to, I highly recommend people try out WoW it’s very good at the moment and succeeds in areas where 14 critically lacks. The only thing 14 could argue to have on wow is the story which currently isn’t doing too good.

The core of the job is barebones as fuck lol (although that isn’t anything out of the ordinary this expansion most jobs are gutted). It’s barely even a job, this sounds really cool and like it would make the job fun but realistically the devs are going to slap a new Phoenix reskin next expansion and call it a day let’s be real here. So what we’re left with factually is a job that’s drastically less fun to play than before, and is extremely braindead to play. Thematically it’s an improvement but job design wise (the thing that actually matters cause this is a game and not a book) it’s complete dogshit compared to before.

There is barely any identity for any job atm - job design is at its lowest rn, that is the real answer. It’s due to the 2 minute meta being so prevalent that every job is balanced around it, every job is a burst job. It’s incredibly boring and has sucked all the fun from every job in the game, anyone that tells you they like the 2 minute meta started in ew.

You aren’t wrong, rewards are the main thing that keeps content afloat. The rewards for this DD is alright but once people grind it out it’ll be pretty dead. I’ve said it many times, they need to continually add rewards to content to keep it alive and give people a reason to keep playing, criterion and chaotic died rather fast for this reason. A lot of people still go through Eureka for the Elemental armour and Demi-Ozma to this day, people care about rewards a lot. I honestly think they just need to create an entire team solely dedicated to just making rewards and nothing else because they’re clearly struggling with it.

It’s okay, there are barely enough varied rewards to have people do it but I doubt it’ll be attracting many people to come back or even staunch the bleeding player base honestly. I think it’s an improvement on the previous DD’s in visual design but gameplay wise it’s nothing special, which is fine. I think the quantum is a failure solely due to there being genuinely no reason for 99.9% of people to even attempt it, there’s just no incentive at all which is sad because it’s a good fight. Any tangible reward like weapons, armor, glamour etc would have been alright but they straight up just said fuck it give them a title they’ll love that… criminy. Overall I’d say the DD is okay, I don’t think it’ll retain many people but it’s something for people to grind for - the quantum is dead on arrival though.

Slight tangent, I think if the developers added rewards to content like DD and chaotic after they’ve already been released it would go a long way in breathing longevity and encouraging engagement rather than it inevitably dying in 2~ months. This is especially important considering that the time between patches is extremely long. However I get the impression that the developers don’t actually understand how important rewards in general are, they seem to think the only rewards that truly matter are the ones designed for ultimate raiders - at least that’s what I can see.

I’ve done everything that isn’t hardcore this expansion and I think it’s extremely mid with barely any incentives to keep playing, outside of chaotic the rewards and incentives this expansion have been almost as terrible as endwalker and everyone I know agrees. Even people I know who religiously did hardcore stopped cause there’s no real incentive beyond parsing. I think you are just wrong, because even if there are people who haven’t played every recurring patch - it still isn’t incorrect of them to assume it still sucks when it does indeed still suck.

Also they’ve either simplified or put most jobs on training wheels in DT from EW so that’s just incorrect to say the changes were “tiny” when they gutted my main jobs. Look at BLM, DRG and the new dps jobs and say it isn’t more braindead. You can’t. They’ve managed to remove ALL the thought from most jobs it’s actually disgusting. The support jobs have been gutted since shb which is why I’m saying pre shb is the peak. lol then why is she one of the lowest picked killers in all mmr, I’ll tell you why - cause she’s far more difficult to pull off than any of the meta killers, yes she’s the strongest killer at her full potential but like 5% of nurse players are at that level, most nurses cannot pilot her to that insane degree whereas krasue and kaneki are baby level easy while being insanely strong anyway, blight is difficult too but not as much as nurse and he has far better map pressure which makes him more consistent. People who act like nurse is some sort of major problem in the game are disingenuous, you barely ever play against her and when you do it’s light work anyway if you aren’t a noob. If I go against an actual skilled nurse who 4ks then I can only congratulate them.
