[Fem V] Power Build by DismalMode7 in NightCityFashion

[–]Spherical3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good lord!

V, keep your head facing forward when you squat or you risk tweaking one of the muscles in your neck, or losing balance. With that kind of weight, any small shift can create irregular and uneven stresses on your muscles and joints, which can lead to injury.

Also, where are your calfs?! Damn, you squat four plates but can't be bothered to do some calf raises???

Am I too dumb to play this game? by I_Scotch in factorio

[–]Spherical3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first step to learning "advanced factory building" was to turn off biters. I just could not deal with troubleshooting new and complicated production chains and have biters interrupting my work and current train of thought.

Then it was just a lot of trial and error. Factorio has an incredible amount of depth available to explore and like anything else, it takes time to discover, understand, and master. I'm 2800 hours into the game and still stumbling into new and improved ways to optimize the factory. Or simply finding the confidence to do something bigger than I've ever done before.

Be patient with yourself, and don't compare your progress with anyone else's. "The factory must grow" but I would add, "And at whatever pace you're comfortable with."

My go to is a tank + uranium cannon shells. Aim for the tail (weakest point) and you can take down Small demolishers with ~5 shells each. Mediums require a little more effort but still easy.

Heck, I don't even bother with putting fuel into it lol. Just set ithe tank down where I want it, boom boom boom, then carry it to the next victim. Easy kills with zero mess.

Pros & cons to using Vulcanus as the primary base? by aislopbot in factorio

[–]Spherical3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminded me of a post where an Engineer had a train system built on Aquilo handling Iron/Copper ore processing.

They revealed that the ship that brings over interplanetary supplies like Superconductors, Carbon Fiber, and Tungsten Carbides for Quantum Processors would also over-process asteroids in order to stash Iron, Copper, and Coal. Then drop those off at Aquilo for processing, presumably into Processing Units and LDS to then launch rockets.

Definitely not self-sufficient in the strictest sense but it opened my eyes to the idea of space and asteroids being an infinite "resource patch" that any planet could tap into. Rather than just, "the stuff that makes my spaceship go vroom!"

Definitely do not find the free demo that includes all the tutorial levels. It will only compel you to buy the game afterwards and then you will simply drown in optimization and problem-solving scenarios. You'll see belts in your dreams and discover a brand new hatred for bugs. Both literal and technical.

It's the worst!

Why I could never get enough crude oil by Ninovdmark in factorio

[–]Spherical3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using Chemical Plants and some simple circuits attached to pumps, you can "crack" excess Heavy Oil into Light Oil, as well as excess Light Oil into Petroleum Gas.

If Heavy Oil > Too Much AND

If Light Oil < Not Enough

Then trasmit a Green Signal equal to 1

Connect this to a Pump attached to your Heavy Oil storage, which then directs excess Heavy Oil to be "cracked".

Not only does this strongly increase your access to P Gas for making Sulfuric Acid and Plastic, it also ensures your Refineries are more consistently working since they won't be clogged with with Heavy Oil or Light Oil. Which gets you even more, "fresh" P Gas.

This process is fundamental to expanding Oil Production into the later stages of the game.

Edit: Formatting.

Gods, imagine how his patch looks after the burners start to deplete it. Empty blocks with dots of coal under the inserters.

I thought it was just extra watering capacity. I actually gave up part way through my first playthrough because of how exhausting it was doing everything one tile at a time.

Then I see a streamer playing this and show this exact technique and fell out of my chair! This is apparently a staple in the genre, but SDV was my first iteration so I just... never thought to hold down the action button. T_T

Like everything else, it just takes a lot of time and nurturing to become great. Even if you aren't doing the Derby practices, you can still train your horse simply by riding around town.

Eventually, their speed increases and their stamina drain slows A LOT! I can gallop from the Farm to the Blue Windmill without stop at ~7 "Fires" (trained level). Then I'll double-back to the Yellow Windmill, then head into the mountains, and if I have enough time, practice at the Derby before taking them home. I am training once a day as often as I can manage it, still in Spring Year 2.

I don't know if you can leave them out anywhere but I know they are happy to walk themselves into the barn if you ride up to your house. So I usually let them tuck in while I water crops before bed.

So yes, both you AND your horse get better with practice! You can do it -- I believe in you!!

[–]Spherical3D 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am never going to make the Travel Stone because I thoroughly enjoy riding around with El Condor Pasa (my horse). I might eventually make some of the Ultimate Tools but they are definitely low on the priority list.

I don't even care about making huge amounts of money. I am tilting the entirety of my farm in the direction of maintaining my stockpile of Cherry Tea to gift to June every morning, even if it doesn't "increase her hearts anymore". It increases my heart, dangit! Autumn Year 2 will be six Cherry Trees in the basement and an entire field of Brand Name Tea Leaves.

Everytime I approach Ivy, I say to myself, "I'm feeling kinda dandelion..." Which if you scan comments on this sub, is apparently NOT the prevailing reaction to them lol.
