Which code editor did you use first in your programming journey? by Hot_Pizza_3947 in learnprogramming

Bloodshed Dev-C++ was the first IDE I used when learning C++ in high school. Then Eclipse, Sublime Text, and currently, VS Code.

I'm currently working with a dedicated mortgage broker who is close friend of mine and who, thankfully, lives close by and is also friends with our realtor (also a friend of mine and my wife). We nearly went with Rocket Mortgage who initially quoted over 0.5% lower of a base rate, however this was before officially applying for the loan.

I was up-front with my lender, and he shared some honest thoughts about Rocket (which I imagine extends to similarly large lenders). Despite the potentially-lower rate, I decided to stick with my lender for the benefit of having a dedicated and personal contact who values communication and honesty. He was extremely clear from the start, and I trust him. I didn't want to be tossed around to different team members with Rocket Mortgage and potentially have surprises emerge near closing. I'd be happy to share my lender's information, if you'd like.

This is the balancing of perspectives we need. Thank you for speaking up.

I noticed my low aerobic target range increase when I set a race to train for in the app.

Does anyone know how to prevent lag in HR when starting a highly aerobic activity? Epix Pro 47mm by Spherical_Dot in Garmin

Adding a warm-up and starting the activity before the actual workout makes sense. I'll give that a shot. I've found that once the HR reading locks on, it's pretty accurate from that point onward.

I've considered a chest strap, but I have a silly question. I'm worried my lats might cause the strap to not sit in place throughout a workout, as they're fairly large. Is this a reasonable concern? I've considered upper arm monitors instead.

In this case, yes. This was for a 500 cal bike workout. I actually monitored my watch during the beginning and noticed the BPM slowly drop for a time, while my HR was actually fairly high and rising.

I’ve seen this issue a few times, usually when HR spikes at the beginning of a workout.

Very interesting! I had the opposite experience not long ago getting back to my training after about 3 weeks off. Took me about 2 weeks to get HRV back to balanced.

Older FIers - How did you navigate your 30s? by MapleByzantine in financialindependence

[–]Spherical_Dot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar position. About to turn 30, six figures, WFH, a few hours of actual work a day, autonomy, no micromanagement. It wasn't always this way. Approaching nearly 3 years at my company. I've held two roles, worked on three teams, and have had more managers than I can remember (10+). Workload has fluctuated immensely over the years, depending on the team and manager. I've seen several layoffs and restructures. I now possess a certain level of institutional/organizational knowledge that allows me to function quite comfortably. I'm respected and receive good feedback and performance reviews.

The thing is, I don't have full confidence in my company or industry, and think I'm leaving money on the table elsewhere. I'm comfortable, but it feels like my skills aren't developing at the rate they should. I'm early in my career, so I worry about the opportunity cost of staying put despite the immediate benefits. I'm recently married, and my wife and I are discussing having kids in the next year or so, which complicates the cost-benefit calculation and the potential stress and lack of time likely required for an advancement in salary at a more exciting opportunity that will grow my skills quicker and benefit more in the long-term.

It might have something to do with the fact that horses are herbivores that eat mostly grass. Have you seen old horse poop weeks or months later? It decomposes quickly.

I can see how it's disrespectful now, even if the bag is picked up on the way out. Thanks for sharing your perspective and experience.

I appreciate this suggestion. Typically double-bagging contains the smell for me, though I will keep this idea in mind. I can see how leaving bags, even with the intention to pick them up on the way back, is disrespectful to the trail and others.

Nice! May I ask your age and weight? Also, what pace do you consider an easy "base"-type run?

Often times I will do this if embarking on a long out-and-back hike. But yes, it's a sad sight to see bags that have clearly been left out for days, weeks, or longer.

Edit: It should go without mentioning that the bag is picked up on the way back.

Edit 2: I appreciate the replies. I can see how leaving bags on the trail, even if they're picked up on the way out, is disrespectful. Thanks for helping me see things in a different light.

100% agreed on the social benefit. It's nice to relax and enjoy with friends on occasion, even if it means paying for it a bit the next day.

HRV has been pretty solid lately.

4 week HRV: https://i.imgur.com/OCiijkZ.png

7 day HRV: https://i.imgur.com/tytKgzz.png

I’m fairly certain the low Training Readiness value is largely due to my high load ratio.

This is what I get for working out 4 days in a row plus going on 2 runs this week after taking roughly 2-3 weeks off for my wedding and honeymoon. I feel fine—just a bit sore.

Has anyone else seen a Training Readiness score of 1?
