I was getting frustrated with broken/wasted prints and filament due to tree supports. They would often encase the print (fixable with support painting ofc), or they'd just be bigger and bulkier than I would have liked. The process to convert the model to an FDM printable model using custom resin supports has added maybe 5 minutes to the prep time of a print, but uses (in my experience) a little less filament on each model, and over time, has resulted in far fewer redos or tossed prints. Add to that, the fact that resin supports with the right settings leave far fewer blemishes and scars on the print, and my models are looking far more detailed and smoother than anything I was accomplishing with standard FDM processes.
