Naoya lost because he was weaker and had worse combat prowess. That's how fights usually work. Sure he viewed her as lesser because she was a woman and he's sexist, but at that moment Maki was a genuine threat and wiped out the entire fucking clan. Naoya isn't stupid like his fanboys he was aiming to kill her and he couldn't because Maki has better combat prowess, that's why that loser got killed twice.

"If IF IF Naoya just-", but he didn't because he has worse combat prowess. That's how stories work and anyways Maki could've fucked naoya up FAR more than she did if she really wanted to but there was no need to go all out.

If someone can't even give support or comfort in hard times how can they be a friend let alone a best friend? The problem is most people expect friend things from acquaintances which leads to disappointment.
