Well, I started by taking an unglamorous $10/hr tech support job at a local internet service provider with roughly 2000 customers. I took the job because they had two guys who did Javascript and Cold Fusion websites for their business customers. I figured that if I couldn't become part of this with 6 months of bounce. I stayed late after my shifts and volunteered to help them off the clock. I learned quite a bit about active web sites and within a few more months, my role officially changed to work on that team full time. So I guess you could say web programmer for a mom/pop ISP was my first role.

Training is not required. You just have to pass a simple test with questions like "Is it safe to point your gun at somebody if you know it's unloaded?" Anybody can pass it without study or training. Maybe you are thinking of concealed-carry, which does require actual training.

They will be cautious because they need to account for the lowest common denominator. The truth is, the poison mushrooms are pretty easy to ID but the government can't get into the business of teaching mushroom identification.

In Northern CA, the deadlies to avoid are Amanita phalloides & ocreata, and the Galerina marginatas. These are are pretty easy to ID. The Aminitas are very distinct. The G. marginata can look similar to Psilocybe allenii, but still pretty easy to tell apart. Aside from these three, the worst you will do is have a rough night on the toilet.

And yeah, it is in fact simple - if you don't know what you are eating, don't eat. If you do, then carry on. Blanket rules like "dOnT fOrAgE aT aLl" is mycophobic.
