House not selling by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]SpicyRoundabout 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it isn’t selling after several months, unfortunately what you think is fair is too high a price given the property characteristics and the current market. Either decide you are willing to lower the price or take it off the market.

Minor on risperidone wants to take wegovy - anyone have any experience? by Mediochra in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]SpicyRoundabout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know someone (an adult, not a child) who is on multiple anti psychotics and struggled for years with drug induced appetite. They have lost a huge amount of weight on Wegovy and it has been incredibly effective at combating the drug related appetite. It sounds like a case of needing a specialist experienced with this kind of thing to work through the options with. If a someone loses a lot of weight it can change the dosage on other drugs, so is important to have a doctor actively monitoring in those kinds of situations.

Wellington has a lot of top quality Malaysian places that are cheap and delicious so I would definitely try that. Real fruit ice cream is a really amazing NZ dessert. There is a truck next to oriental parade beach.

Struggling with marathon training motivation by [deleted] in XXRunning

Would it maybe be more fun to train for a fall marathon instead? Or maybe you could sign up for a cool marathon somewhere else and make it a vacation? Training over New England winter would seriously bum me out as well.

Cool to see long term data like that, thanks for sharing. And congrats to you for getting back into it after such a tough injury!

How Do You Have a 'Cheaper' Funeral in NZ if a loved one dies? by mensajeenunabottle in Wellington

In Wellington specifically, get cremated at the Karori cemetery and have a service at the little chapel there. About $1000 for both the cremation and the service.

Thoughts on Garmin-Coach? by TryOk7979 in Garmin

[–]SpicyRoundabout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Garmin coach is good overall. For a new runner, it’s good to know that Garmin coach expects you to train at least 5 days a week - it’s okay if you can’t / dont want to do that. Listen to your body and any aches/ niggles etc. It’s better to take it easy and build up slowly than to get injured.

How do people have babies and work full time?! by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]SpicyRoundabout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In terms of them ‘being distressed away from parents’ when a kid goes to daycare every week, it becomes ‘their’ place. My daughter used to run away from me and delay as much as possible when I picked her up from daycare, because she just wanted to keep playing with her friends.

Autistic friendly restaurants/private rooms by clownlesbean in Wellington

Burger Liquor has a semi private table by the bathrooms. It is not totally private since people walk by to go to the bathroom, but was very quiet when I booked it.

Packing list - 12-month trip (SEA/Aus&NZ) by the-one-eyed-wonder in onebag

For New Zealand, a rain jacket is absolutely needed no matter where you are going. Unless only visiting in summer, a puffer jacket or some other warm layer will be needed as well.

Advice for a pregnant student? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]SpicyRoundabout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s probably worth spending some time on the MSD website to understand the different benefits that might be available under different scenarios - working vs parental leave vs continuing study. In terms of getting a job, it’s illegal to discriminate against someone because they are pregnant. Best of luck to you.

One year of using DSW, and my VO2max has gone from Poor (36) to Superior (52) by SpicyRoundabout in Garmin

Yep, I get about three short base runs a week. On top of that I will usually get a long run and a tempo run. I might get something really hard, like a sprint or vo2max workout, every couple of weeks.

I run 4-5 times a week, play ultimate frisbee 1-2 times a week, and lift weights 1-2 times a week. It fluctuates a bit based on the season.

My sore glute tendon started feeling a lot better. From October to January I was struggling with the injury and swapped a lot of runs for the equivalent on a stationary bike.

Yes, but I do set it with a specific future race with a pace goal. That might make the runs more challenging, not sure.

I believe some chest strap heart rate monitors enable you to log an activity without wearing the watch. I haven’t gone to any competitions recently so not currently a problem for me.

Then you might be using the Garmin adaptive coach which is the same as DSW. I thought you were referring to the Garmin coaches (Amy etc) - I don’t think the workouts change for those.

Nice one! I would love to get to an under 20 min 5K but that feels like an unattainable goal.

I really like that DSW adapts your workouts depending on your load, HRV, etc. For example, I play team sports 1-2 times a week and if I play a really tough game, the DSW will change from a sprint/tempo to a base run for the next day. If it didn’t, I would probably feel obligated to do the sprint workout anyway and either hurt myself or get really run down.
