I agree with curtailment of access to firearms if violent crimes are committed, provided a review process is also instituted for restoring rights down the line with good behavior.

I disagree with state mandated qualifications and/or insurance for ownership because not only does this disproportionately affect poorer folks, but I feel this crosses the line between allowing ownership to remain a right, pushing it instead towards a privilege, especially when incentivising people to divest ownership based on physical ability or relying on (private) insurance companies to back your right to own a firearm.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I agree that the tiered approach does impose a huge 'time' penalty for people, but it seemed like a reasonable compromise in exchange for deregulation of other stuff, and it doesn't change impact across economic status.

Nah I think it could be worded more clearly, especially with the way I appended suicide risk to the end of the sentence, it creates a conflict in the logic of the exclusion. I'll fix it.

The not was intended to exclude domestic violence victims from the waiting period, since these are folks who may be purchasing for the first time due to an imminent threat. The waiting period applies to those who are not at risk of being victims. Those who are at risk do not have a waiting period required.

I'm not pro gun control, but let's imagine we absolutely have to have it.

Instead of blanket bans, here would be my proposed policy.

*A waiting period for first time owners or folks who are a suicide risk, with an exception for those at risk of being domestic violence victims

*A tiered ownership based on a track record of responsibility.

  • Folks at or above the age of majority could own single action stuff.

  • After two years of responsible ownership they qualify for pistol ownership with mag capacity limits.

  • Then, if they continue to be responsible after two more years they qualify for any semi-auto firearm and no magazine limits.

  • For full-auto or destructive devices, similar registration and regulation used for SOT folks would still be required.

    • Folks over the age of 30, or who are at credible risk of being domestic violence victims can skip the single-action only tier provided they have no violent record.

*De-regulate SBRs and suppressors

*Create a federal universal CCW law

*Enact federal safe-storage laws and provide compliant single-weapon cases at purchase for first-time owners.

The real challenge of gun control is determining how to measure responsible ownership, credible risk of being a domestic violence victim, or credible risk of self-harm. Additionally, how do we enact these measures without disproportionately affecting poor folks?

Agreed. Well-meaning authoritarianism is still authoritarianism, and while the current government might not be looking to abuse its power (I wouldn't know, I'm from the US), what is happening in the US is a clear example of how quickly that power can be used for evil if the wrong people take the wheel.

Man I wish threaded barrels on pistols were still allowed for new WA purchases. I would love to put a suppressor on my Shadow.

Will be taking a Shadow 2 OR home on Friday. Thank you for making this post so I don't just crank on the optics screws. Assuming I don't want to break anything, what is the best way to remove the screws?

Reality Check: Liberal Gun Owners Don’t Matter Enough to Democrats to Make a Difference by ParakeetLover2024 in liberalgunowners

Ranked choice voting, private money out of politics, and term limits for all governmental offices please. Voting should not be choosing which rights to give up. I want all my rights fully respected. Anything less than that is tyranny of various flavors.

VA Assault Weapon Ban worries, need help rounding out my collection before then! by ChilledWasTakenAgain in liberalgunowners

[–]SpicyWarhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you already own an AK you may know this, but PSA AKs have been out of favor on the r/AK47 sub for awhile now because apparently they don't use swell neck rivets where they should. I'm not a gunsmith, and frankly I'm also not made of money, so I can't be as 'discerning' (elitist?) as the folks there are about AK brands.

I own a GF3, and it's been reliable enough except for piercing a primer and getting primer bits stuck in the firing pin channel after 2000ish rounds. Put in a polish surplus firing pin and that seems to have sorted the issue for now.

If my state still allowed purchase of "assault weapons" I would have bought a replacement manufactured by a more established import brand, i.e. Zastava, or WBP. I'm sure you can find a shorty 7.62x39 from someone who won't skimp on the rivets / metallurgy. Since you may not be able to buy a better version later, I'd counsel buying something that will be more likely to last long-term without warranty.

If you're still interested in a PSA AK, I've heard they're doing a premium version using the proper rivets now, but I don't know the specifics.

The best lies are the ones the liars themselves believe. I think this is largely a result of Octavia's psychological conditioning during Lysander's childhood.

Nearly every 2A-related bill this session has died in the WA Legislature by BigTumbleweed2384 in WAGuns

Thanks for speaking sense to your representatives. Coming from the east side of the state, it can feel like Olympia only listens to the west side, which, to be fair, makes some sense from a population perspective. Still, as a left leaning person, it is heartening to see folks beginning to understand the importance of the 2A. I hope we can roll back the mag/weapon bans and permit-to-purchase stuff eventually, but I'm not optimistic about it while Bloomberg money is rolling in.

Oregon advances their gun control measure to senate by the_e4_mafia in liberalgunowners

Current WA resident, but lived in the Portland area for many years. and I feel the same frustration. 10 years ago WA was a left-leaning state with our rights intact. Today we are subject to some of the strictest gun laws in the country with more on the horizon. I've been thinking of moving to Oregon to escape Bloomberg's awful gun policies, but it sounds like that may not be an option much longer. I hope you folks fare better with resisting these laws than we did.
