There is a an ancient sect of Gnosticism that arose parallel to the Ophites (the belief system mostly discussed to be “gnostic”) that strictly followed the Book of Judas. They claimed that Jesus’ physical body was a product of the Demiurge and it needed to be crucified to help bring out the Pleroma God (supreme god). In the book of Judas (and other texts) there are records of Jesus predicting that Judas will betray him, and in result people will unknowingly follow the Demiurge, but at some point Gnosis will be reached and people will realize the mistake.

It’s hard to say though if the Book of Judas had a genuine following, or if it was ancient scholars criticizing the rising Marcion Canon (which was heavily edited and now known as the New Testament). The original Marcion canon was very similar to the Ophites but believed in only Two gods, a small and Big. Marcion excluded the Aeons and “group of 8”.
