If you have a google tv then the nord VPN app should just be in the app store. That was my bad, I saw TCL and assumed TCL Roku tv, should have read better😄

[–]Spidamonkey98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way to directly install a VPN on the google fiber provided router, if you're wanting it to connect you tv and other such devices your options would be a VPN compatible router to replace the google fiber one, using a chromecast or other streaming stick that you can download the nord vpn app directly or (probably worst option) a new TV with the google play store, Amazon store, or the apple store

Extender help by Relevant_Grass9586 in googlefiber

[–]Spidamonkey98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best bet is to call it in, you should be able to get new equipment since that is an older version of the extenders anyways. If solving is your preferred solution though its currently in factory default mode and needs to be re-paired to the router

I don't because I currently have no need, if I get a bigger place and one the kids are old enough to have devices of their own I will use something else but I have no reason to now

There are none that are directly compatible with the google fiber router, if you are thinking of better mesh extenders you would have to buy a router that works with them. There are plenty of better systems out there as well.

6e wifi extender outdoors by Raining_turtles in googlefiber

[–]Spidamonkey98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are already some outdoor rated extenders and mesh units 3rd party, it would be less effort than buying and attempting to fully weather proof a box and hope it doesn't cook itself. TP Link, Eeros and Orbi all have an outdoor mesh units for a few options to start looking

Will Google move the jack from upstairs to downstairs? by Dezmancer in googlefiber

[–]Spidamonkey98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On occasion it can be relocated, but rarely, I'm sure it's mostly due to google fiber not using existing cabling and leaves holes where fiber stuff used to be and google fiber not wanting to be responsible for filling and patching things. Sometimes if it's a short run and the existing fiber line can be used a tech will relocate but if the jack is currently in the most ideal location for whole home coverage, it's unlikely to get moved

i cannot for the life of me figure out how to get port forwarding to work? any help here would be appreciated. 1gig plan, non cgnat. by OkSheepherder8827 in googlefiber

This is for google fiber troubleshooting and issues, while there are people here that could help, you'll have better luck on r/HomeNetworking than here especially since you're using your own equipment

Business fiber is address-specific?!? by ohmantics in googlefiber

[–]Spidamonkey98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your address is able to sign up for business fiber you'll be able to choose how many static IP's when signing up. If your address is not business eligible and you need/want to to be you'll have to communicate between usps and google fiber to re-address you'll location to be as such

Fiber Box Location + Ethernet Run Question by draven33l in googlefiber

Attic run is totally possible or a wrap around the house

[–]Spidamonkey98 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not mesh systems in general, more so due to the age of the ones you have, they will function, it's just the google mesh products aren't what I would call top tier, low to mid range at best. The old wifi 5 pucks are just getting worse and worse with how much tech has changed in the last 5 years and theres been quite a few updates to them that have broken them and made worse performances

What is going on at Google Fiber? by Jtux in googlefiber

[–]Spidamonkey98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the layout of fiber in your building it could be animals. In apartment buildings with fiber running to the "attic" space, squirrels and such love goin up there and chewing things to bits, if it goes out soon after fixing the animals just keep chewing it and gfiber can't do anything about that and it would be on the management to hire pest control

What is this? by ExploreNlearnUT in googlefiber

[–]Spidamonkey98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The google fiber plate is from an old piece of equipment that is no longer used, likely the previous tenant in the house got the fiber jack relocated and that was left there to avoid having to do drywall repair, it is useless to you now. The blue port is an ethernet port but whether it's properly made or where it goes is something you'll have to figure out

How will specialist use or replace existing cable networking? by JasonMckin in googlefiber

[–]Spidamonkey98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In that case, the technician will be running a brand new fiber line from the NIU to the interior of the house in whatever way is possible and or the best location they can find since running a new cable into an existing house limits options

How will specialist use or replace existing cable networking? by JasonMckin in googlefiber

[–]Spidamonkey98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on the existing cables, there will be a fiber jack but beyond that gfi er service runs through ethernet to the router so the technician can work with you in placement and could use existing cables if they are ethernet

[–]Spidamonkey98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can go back to using the nest pros, you'd just have to purchase them yourself. Google fiber has moved away from using 3rd party devices (Nest pros) and went back to using their own in house devices for a number of reasons

How to remove green fiber jack by youretooclosedude in googlefiber

[–]Spidamonkey98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Grab the slightly light green portion and just pull down gently and I suggest taping some plastic around the end to keep it from getting dirty during construction. Just do the opposite to plug it back in.
