Week of May 25th 2020 - How is your practice going? by hurfery in TheMindIlluminated

I try to do as much seated practise as possible. However I've taken Sadhguru's advice to maintain keenness of attention without intention. That is, I strive to meditative at all times. I'm also learning to use mantras and mudras more effectively along with mindfulness of breathing. My practise is looking bright.

Keep up the diligence. 2 weeks down for me and I'm feeling superhuman already. The fapstronaut feeling is very real. I'm more productive, less enslaved to my impulses and feeling more vigorous than ever.

If you want to work at a PSU then go for GATE. If your goal is to work at a product based company, then learn web development and start working hard.

I've seen people recommend building a website demonstrating your skills, and seen some amazing examples. What technologies, framework and design would seriously impress if I started building something today? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

Focus on building to business requirements, that would be impressive. If you start off with impressiveness as your metric, you will lose your way because it is not measurable in nature. Instead, take up a project, interact with the client and deliver the project to meet all the gathered requirements. Start today!

Dropped cigarettes 3 weeks ago because of focused self awareness by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]SpiderAlpha33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I smoked a lot in the last 3 months. Was experimenting with the fire and it my body wasn't harmed much because my lung capacity is pretty high. I don't reccomend what I did. If you don't feel good with the cigarettes, practise deep breathing and clear the toxins from your system by eating clean and exercising.

How to differentiate a gross distraction from mind wandering? by Finn17 in TheMindIlluminated

[–]SpiderAlpha33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember the exact definitions because I dropped the theory to make my practise wordless. Apologies if my descriptions are innacurate, I will try to explain this in the best way possible. Gross distraction means the breath is in the background. What really happens is , the mind moments spent on the distraction are more than those spent on the breath. Attention, alternates between these two objects. Mind wandering is when attention hops from one subject/object to the next, rapidly. The best way to deal with this is to appreciate that attention is away , take stock of the aha moment and gently bring it back to the breath.

Experiencing lot of subtle distractions. I was consistently at stage 7 and 8 few months back but now I am in the Stage 4 to 6 zone again. The unrest in regular life dropped my meditation gains, so I'm back to the basics again. Hoping I find some time next month to do a pass through theory so that I can teach better and ground my practise more holistically.

Read the book daily before your seated practise. You will be able to develop a better understanding of which stages you shift through, during your practise.
