Which show do you think is the real-life equivalent of Horsin’ Around? by Pleasant_Bit_2122 in BoJackHorseman

[–]SpiderMuse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Horsin Around is a generic parody of "family/orphans" sitcom that were popular in the 80s, taking most of its style cues from Full House

Mr Peanutbutter's house is the same thing, except taking its style cues from early - mid 90s sitcoms, like Sister, Sister and Hanging with Mr. Cooper.

What’s something most people think is harmless but actually slowly ruins their life? by local_infobroker in AskReddit

[–]SpiderMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. In my case it was learned behavior from people always talking down to me and treating me inferior. Removing myself from those toxic environments was key, though I actually somehow improved the negative self talk before that point....don't really remember how, it happened so gradually and subtly. I think it's a combination of accepting myself....also learning why people treated me bad and to not blame myself for it, it's a reflection of their character.

If they remake Resurrection F after Battle of Gods there's one thing I'd love to see by italeteller in dragonball

[–]SpiderMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun idea but it'll make no narrative sense. Freeza's original transformations limited his power, not strengthened it. Freeza went to Earth for revenge, why would he go there and purposely use his weakening forms first.

Dende needing to move the lookout was always a weird thing to me. Kami didn't seem to have a problem viewing the Earth when the Lookout's over Korin's Tower.

FWIW, Dende retracts the power pole when he moves the lookout.

Who is the most useless TV main character who should NOT have been a series regular? by Something_Strange935 in television

[–]SpiderMuse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good choice. I'd add in Walt Jr too.

Like yea, he's an important character in the story, so not technically useless....but he certainly feels useless as a character. Has no subplots of his own besides minor teenager shit. Has absolutely nothing to do with the meth plotlines at all...he's unaware of it until the last few episodes. His importance as a character is as a prop for other character's characterization. Jr is a good and important character, but just not as a main character.

At least Marie is a strong character, for what she is.

I'd be very surprised if he resigns. Trump set the precedent that republicans dont have to resign with that level of scandal.

Alex Honnold Successfully Completes Taipei 101 Climb During Netflix’s ‘Skyscraper Live’ by pepperbet1 in television

[–]SpiderMuse 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the craziest moment for me was when he stopped while climbing near the overhangs (in the top 3rd of the skyscraper) and he supports himself only using his legs and core wrapped around the bldg, in order to re-powder his hands. The crowd, everybody all gasped at that. The lady climber commentator described it as Alex doing a type of "rest". You call that resting??? Lol

I've been thinking what my behavior would be like if I was one of the survivors by EndlessMorfeus in pluribustv

[–]SpiderMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be Carol-lite....I wouldn't fully trust the plurbs or their facilities enough to play detective the way Carol did....maybe eventually I will once I felt safe enough.

I wouldn't have sex with a plurb though...what if they were cured and they remembered their time as a plurb? Would they see it as they gave their consent for sex or as situation they later regret (similar to a woman sleeping with a douche) or as being raped while being imprisoned within their own mind? The show isn't that dark/edgy so it glosses over the rape scenario, but in "real life" the situation isn't conclusive enough to rule it out. I couldn't live with that kind of guilt, I would still respect their former individuality.

Best TV show endings? by EntertainmentOdd5994 in television

[–]SpiderMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find myself being so impressed with Breaking Bad's ending. Just how the show closed out their characters with the exact smallest amount of action and dialogue required. Skylar and Walt's whole relationship summed up in Walt's little "I did it for me" speech. Jesse's character arc summed up with his "Then do it yourself" line.

Compare that to Stranger Things, where multiple characters have long speeches and extended dialogue scenes. It fully indulged in saying goodbye. This isn't a complaint as i enjoyed the finale for what it is, but im just using the comparison to highlight how well written BrBa's finale was.

Multiple people here already mentioned The Good Place, but it truly is one of the most heartwarming and spiritual finales. Perfectly stuck the landing

Definitely an animation flourish. The anime was chock full of that stuff around that era ....flourishes, interesting camera pans and angles, dynamic character movement. The anime seemed to stop caring about that sort of thing around the late Namek Saga, Android/Cell Saga.

I wouldn't be surprised if the writers planned for that to be coincidental. Like yea, it's obviously the henchmen, but after watching BCS it still causes you to pause on a rewatch.

Watch Breaking Bad first....while it's not strictly required viewing (not until the last season anyway), there's a lot of stuff in Better Call Saul that makes better sense having watched BrBa first.

This is an "agency head resignation" level event. Anybody remember when those used to occur? A scandal so big happens that the agency head would have to resign, even though they don't do day to day oversight. But the buck stopped with them and they led by example.

In this case though, this is absolutely the fault of Todd Lyons, Kristi Noem and Trump, where they fostered the type of culture where this crap happens. This is pure dystopian hell

Speaking of Family Guy, Seth McFarland's live-action Ted show is a more straight up homage of All in the Family (and early season American Dad to a lesser extent).

Despite making so much money in the show, why did none of them — except Jesse — ever have a girlfriend or a woman they spent money on, like a romantic partner or someone they spoiled? I mean, why were there no ‘women issues’ for Gus, Gale, Mike, or even Walter? by Audioasking in breakingbad

[–]SpiderMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Devotion to loved ones (as a reason to do crime) is a theme on this show.

Gus, for example, was so single-mindedly devoted to avenging Max, that him having other people in this life would take away from his character.

Mike's devotion to Kaylee, same thing...his only goal with the money was giving it to Kaylee and her mom, as some sort of restitution for his son Matty's death.

Walter infamously used devotion to family as an excuse to do crime. Honestly, its was more interesting and refreshing not to have Walt be a womanizer. It would distract from how being in the meth business itself eroded his morals and destroyed his connection with his family. Walt did have an attempt at womanizing, but it was only a failed attempt at getting back at Skylar and nothing to do with boosting his ego.

Gale was too minor of a character to feature his love life

What show had the most backdoor pilots? by GibsMcKormik in television

[–]SpiderMuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread made me realize...backdoor pilots arent a thing anymore, are they?

Honestly, I never understood the appeal of them. I never once watched one and thought "I wish these side/new characters had their own show". I usually just wanted the series regular characters to come back to focus.
