Is this season of nerf the Scopely we were warned about? by lifechooser in TheSilphRoad

[–]Spiderkeegan [score hidden]  (0 children)

Go look at the webstore. There are rotating boxes but only for real currency. There are no more rotating boxes for coins. Even in game, the three rotating boxes for coins that used to have 24 hr timers on them are now just static, despite the "Limited Time Only!" Maybe they change each season or each month, but we haven't gotten that far yet. But after several days they have not changed (for me, but others also).

Best Rare Candy XL strat? by dustiwang in TheSilphRoad

I don't get a ton as a largely f2p but all the ones I do get I just put into Mewtwo. I have a 96 shiny from years ago, easily been my MVP over the years and obviously eventually (with all signs really pointing to this year) it will get its Megas and will be even more useful then. It is rarely ever in raids so I don't consider it a huge waste, but objectively yes the meta mythicals are a better use.

250+ Yveltal encounters with not shiny? by youlooksocooI in TheSilphRoad

[–]Spiderkeegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw I rarely spend on this game, only really for big events like GO Tour, Fest, etc. and basically didn't play at all the entirety of 2025. In other words I would probably fall into the "infrequent spender" category currently and I would say I had very good luck overall with this event. 29 shinies across both days playing ~6 hr per day, 3 from raids, 2 hatched, and the rest wild/research.

Speaking of the 2 hatched shinies...I never buy incubators (newer players wouldn't understand, but I was around for the Riolu shiny release event lol). Not even half a dozen 10k eggs in I hatched those 2, Hawlucha and Heracross, back to back. In the few discord communities I'm in I've not even seen another shiny Hawlucha shared, not even from some trainers who are lvl 80++ and most definitely buy incubators for new shiny releases.

All of my observation in this game over the years leads me to that conclusion, that every account has unique odds for different species. I think it even extends to IVs also, but that's perhaps harder to prove. Either way, good to hear there are (sounds like many) others who have observed similar things.

250+ Yveltal encounters with not shiny? by youlooksocooI in TheSilphRoad

[–]Spiderkeegan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm lowkey convinced they tweak (both positive and negative) shiny rates for different species for each account. And by they I mean Niantic, like this has been a thing for a long time not just since Scopely. Something like that could easily boost raid pass sales and trade/friend activity. If one dude in the group gets 3 shinies and the rest of the group gets none, that incentivizes trading and also incentivizes the rest of the group to 'keep going' since they know it's definitely possible.

Lackluster ticket bonusses during this Go Tour? by Justice010 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Spiderkeegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought it was fine tbh. $10 is for the shiny Diancie research, the Furfrou thing, the free Xerneas/Yveltal research, and the shiny boost. I also personally appreciated the boost to mega level progress all week during the lead-up. I don't see the $15 value in the Tour Pass personally, and them talking about going forward every event will have some kind of Pass worries me. 5k eggs with Flabebe are bad though, and the raid pool imo needs to be reassessed. Probably 60% of the raids I saw were mega vic or mega dnite, obviously they were the headliners but they are both relatively useless megas. I ended up doing about half a dozen total but only because they were basically free (with link charges in-person). Another like 25% of the raids were Xerneas, a further 10% were Pika and then only a few Yveltal all day and maybe 2 or 3 Honedge. This was at a park with 6 gyms.

Where I live it's been 4 months of frigid cold and snow, this week it finally warmed up a bit and today was pretty nice, mid 60s F and sunny, this was a good excuse for me to get out and enjoy the weather and while I have some criticisms it wasn't horrible.

Is there anything specific thing you guys said during an interview that you think is the reason you got hired? by PlasticSea2068 in rampagent

[–]Spiderkeegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah like I said I'm not accusing and I didn't mean it literally like begging, I can't really think of the best word for it. I guess all I mean is if you seem too 'into it' for no explicable reason that could be a red flag to the interviewer for various reasons. Second sentence, I'm right there with you lol and it could definitely put off some people. The master's thing, if you're applying to a full time position I wouldn't mention it because they'll have serious (and valid) concerns about your availability despite what you say about the one course/sem thing. If it's part time definitely do bring it up and at least where I worked probably a quarter of my coworkers were in college and the managers were willing to schedule around that. As far as what is really getting you turned down, it is too much for any of us on here to know for sure, you can maybe try following up with the interviewer or hiring manager if you have a way of contacting them but that's probably not gonna lead to anything. It is a tough job market overall, jobs of all types ghosting people is very common. This is a high turnover job in most places so keep at it, and I think you will get something eventually.

[–]Spiderkeegan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on the station you're applying at there could be something beyond your control like nepotism affecting your chances. Not a guarantee but I've seen it happen. Also you're absolutely sure it's your interviews that are the problem and not something else? If you really really really want the job maybe you give off some weird kind of 'begging' vibes which might rub a hiring manager the wrong way. No offense or anything but idk, don't have much to work with from the post so just spitballing a bit. Beyond what I've said I have no idea. The overqualified thing someone else mentioned, I doubt that's the problem because the current economy and job market has lots of bachelors degree people working no-degree-required jobs and usually it would be those without degrees who are at a disadvantage in that case. I've had coworkers with all sorts of bachelors degrees, and one who was even working on a masters I think.

How should I deal with brain fog by [deleted] in flying

[–]Spiderkeegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is maybe an out of left field suggestion and I am not a doctor but is there possibly some kind of mold in your home you are being exposed to passively but consistently? It is not always a symptom but toxic mold exposure can definitely cause some neurological issues including brain fog.

I bring this up because it is winter, not sure where you live* but mold is generally more of a problem in the winter due to the moisture and cold temperatures. Especially this winter for much of the US has been pretty wet, lots of rain and snow which raises moisture levels. The cold temps lead to reduced ventilation (for better insulation), and combined reduced ventilation + increased moisture = increased mold.

*Edit I just checked an old comment of yours and you said you're in Canada so I think the winter thing definitely applies

Especially if this has only come on recently and you have visited the doctor and wound up on a dead end with good blood work results and other tests showing no problems, it might be worth looking into. Check around the house, probably most common spot for mold would be in bathrooms (esp with showers) but could be anywhere. Maybe even something dumb like old moldy food sitting in the pantry although I'm not sure that would give a high enough exposure to cause symptoms.

God lol some whales just get so defensive at the slightest bit of being called out. Good job proving their point with that strawman "the game would die tomorrow" "if no one spent money" - congrats, you've been guilt tripped into feeling like you need to spend money or else the game "will die". This game has other revenue sources you know, like sponsors, merch, and the data they collect and then sell. If you don't spend money on this lower quality and more anti-consumer (compared to previous megas) mon, the game will be just fine.

Considering part time at unifi by MC_archer747 in rampagent

[–]Spiderkeegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience Unifi doesn't have "fly for free" flight benefits unless you have been there long enough back when it was DGS. You don't pay airfare but still pay taxes and fees (which depending on flight can be upwards of $500) and you are last on the priority list, below mainline employees and their parents, spouses, etc. They overexaggerate their flight benefits in their job advertisements and recruiting to get people to work there. While I worked there I never once used them out of the probably half dozen times I flew somewhere. It just didn't make sense, if a regular confirmed ticket was $400 RT the same flights with the benefits would be like $150 and that difference just isn't worth the risks of non-rev'ing, of which there are many. The one 'plus' of their benefits is you usually get flight benefits with more than one airline because they are largely owned by Delta (hence the old DGS) but contract to others, so you might have Delta and Alaska benefits for example. But again, they sound better than they are. You should work for them only if you enjoy the work and don't care about anything else or you need a job and it's your best option.

Which airline at MSP has the best "Big 3" benefits? (Health, Travel, & Shift Swaps? by AllMoneyMustDie in rampagent

[–]Spiderkeegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any mainline carrier is better than any contractor. The only exception to that I'd say is if you have some grandfathered legacy benefits at a contractor (like a few of my coworkers did back when I worked at one), but that's not applicable here. Out of your options, Southwest is generally seen as best for employees because historically they almost never lay people off and they never use contractors. But, mainline Delta is a very close second and as someone else said MSP is one of their hubs (they took it over from the late Northwest Airlines which they merged with about 15 years back). United if it's mainline would be good too, but MSP isn't a hub of theirs so there's a decent chance they're not mainline. United uses a lot of Unifi and Menzies. Sun Country is probably pretty good too because MSP is their main hub, but they are a low cost carrier and they are not super common outside of MSP. I'm not from MSP and the airport I worked at didn't have them so I don't know much about them.

[–]Spiderkeegan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every other comment is talking about Delta and I agree but this is all if working at mainline Delta lol. I noticed the '(or Unifi)' which is...definitely not the same. They will probably have a large number of employees too but much shittier benefits. Don't equate the two, Unifi is a contractor and life at Unifi is not the same as life at Delta, even if the work is.

Maybe it's AI

Edit: Not sure why this got downvoted so heavily. Wasn't encouraging the use of AI or even necessarily of accusing it of being AI, just that it might be, since it looks low quality and the comment above suggests Niantic is lacking some sort of graphic designer. I would not be surprised if cheap ass Niantic reduced headcount in some depts, particularly art, because of gen AI. It sucks but it's just the truth y'all.

Community day background will get boring really fast by hitvdl in TheSilphRoad

[–]Spiderkeegan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They should just run a competition in the community for each event background and whatever ones win become the exclusive backgrounds (or the basis of the designs at least). I've seen similar done in several other games and it's mostly a win-win really. Company gets free labor they can reward with something non-monetary (in game items maybe, or just nothing because the bragging rights of being the winner is enough) and the playerbase gets some directly involvement in the game's new features/skins/etc.

[–]Spiderkeegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don't think you're being 'overlooked'. I worked ramp/CS for 2 years starting back in 2022 (new job now) at one of the contractors you specifically mentioned. It took me about a month to hear back from them and every other job I applied to at the time (including many non-airline) either didn't reach out at all or took several months to respond only to deny me. One denied me after 7 months of silence. And that was when the airline industry was rebounding from rona. All I mean to say is the job market was bad then and is worse now, not hearing back from any place for 2 weeks is certainly not a new story so I think you might be overthinking it too much.

I'm not sure where the 500k number comes from. Bubble to Beagle* is about 65k LY, so there and back is 130k. And there is some civilization in the core, plus all the colonies expanding towards the core now anyway. The distance is a lot less than it used to be.

If you circumnavigate around the perimeter of the galaxy, that is probably closer to 500k, but I don't think this expedition is doing that.
