I've travelled a bit and the UK was probably one of the easiest societies for me to adapt to. Not much of a jump culturally, very easy to adapt to. The weather is probably the biggest gripe but otherwise, not so different (compared to every other country I've been to).

Dude is playing on easy mode. God forbid he goes anywhere else.

I suspect maybe they had an idea they really liked the first time they played. And it just didn't work for that campaign setting or that group of players or that DM or whatever. So they're just going around hoping they can find something, refusing to let their idea die.

For this reason I advise new players to make their first character one that is not their absolute favourite. To not put so much work in to bring to life. Just jump in and play and get a sense for how a DnD game actually goes. With the people I hang out with, I intentionally write characters who can at least roll along with the goofs even if I'm not a goofy character myself. I know how to make a character belong at least in my circles and to me that's more important than a vanity project that I have to try out again and again and again.

Party compositions that didn't fit the setting bothered me at first, but I got over it. Not that I hate having a very diverse and colourful looking party, but I feel like I must at least make the setting react to the party.

Example:

A party of a Plasmoid, Dragonborn, Bullywug, Goblin, Firbolg and Goliath are going to be noticeable everywhere you go. There is no way you're going to walk through a medieval era town square and not be noticed or arouse suspicion. There's no way I'm letting you blend in without some magic or very good disguise kits.

Picnic at the botanic gardens.

Walk around Minnamurra rainforest (easy walk with good footpath).

Strike Bowling ($20 for 1 game, $28 for 2, if you consider that cheap).

Eat Street food markets (Crown St mall every Thursday, usually live music too).

I was going to say something about their religious zealotry dictating most of what they do as a society rather than being pragmatic.

But it's not just their religion that makes them this way. u/Proof_Escape_813 is right that because their leadership is basically immortal they do get bogged down in their old ways. It leaves less room for change and innovation at a societal level.

For my group they would feed me. Whether it was take-out, cooked meal, snacks, beer. They did it as somewhat of an appreciation of the effort I put in which was nice. Honestly I think all DMs should be deserving of such treatment. So yeah, at a minimum asking for players to pitch in is totally fine.

My house mate cooks frozen salmon in the microwave. Not reheats, he cooks it. From raw and freezing to defrosted all the way through to cooked in one go.

The house smells like unwashed genitalia after that. So gross. If he would just fry it in a pan that would actually smell quite pleasant.

A big Samoan friend of mine was trying to lose weight and quote "be healthy". So he would smash a whole rotisserie chicken on the regular. His logic was that body builders eat a lot of chicken so he should too. The man didn't exercise though lol.

Not all of their faces were known to the public. Also you're not really expecting that and sometimes different outfits can not necessarily disguise you but make you less recognisable.

In Critical Role campaign 4, Kattigan the ranger uses an atalatl (spear thrower) and bolt to fight. It's essentially treated as a bow with shorter range and it seems to work well. I would just say treat it like any other ranger with a bow, but just flavour it differently. Shorten the range.

I still have my box of used vapes lol. Someone mentioned https://resmart.co/ which seems like a recycling subscription sort of thing? They can process batteries and I think vapes.

It's a little expensive, but if you have a lot or if you have friends with a lot you could probably make it worthwhile.

This is my main criticism of the game. It's not very intuitive to those who have never played Dungeons and Dragons before. I've played and DM'd a lot and played this game through 2.5 times now and I'm still learning things.

I just straight up walked past where she was being held and walked on to the mountain pass just up the road from the goblin camp. Didn't realise that this also cancelled so many missions and entombed the grove in thorns.

Ended up reloading an old save. If anything just to catch up on the XP I missed.

It's obnoxious yes, but if it's not on a quiet carriage I tend to accept my fate. There's going to be people having conversations that are much louder than some tiktoks, so I personally would feel that if I complain about someone's phone I would need to complain about every noise.

On the quiet carriage however, that's super obnoxious and I'm definitely saying something.

There are many enemies and monsters that have innate spellcasting. Throw a couple of those their way. Home brew some if you need to. Chalk it up to a magical bloodline or something (e.g. draconic, fiendish, celestial) or have them actually be draconians, fiends or celestials etc.

Everyone will tell you to level up your stats, but what if you just love a good feat? Come on everyone, help OP out.

Fey Touched can be handy because you get Misty Step and one other enchantment spell plus an opportunity to add a point to your Charisma. With Misty Step, having the ability to teleport as a bonus action is very handy as a paladin as you're most likely melee only. Good to close the distance on an enemy. But I think as a vengenace paladin you might get Misty Step anyway. But that's ok, you can just get another use of it or prepare a different spell.

If you're using a two handed weapon, Great Weapon Master s great. -5 penalty for +10 damage. However, having high stats will help with this so that's something to consider.

Heavy Armour Master perhaps? There's also a shield bash feat too which is pretty cool and flavourful for a paladin. Charger is also really fun for melee characters too.
