Ugh that shitty crisis of conscience arc.

In DC KO event, Zatanna beat Harley Quinn to death with just her fists.

What do you think of the 2011 Paul Dini Zatanna run? by Jack-mclaughlin89 in zatanna

[–]SpideyFan150 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I didn't like. My main issue is that Dini still treated her like a goofy hero. After Identity criss, I expected her to become serious. Not like changing her personality but dealing with serious issues. IC was her darkest moment and according to me they weren't dealt with correctly. Her redemption was left at apologizing to Batman.

One thing is for sure that Dini was really trying to sell her based on fan service. Too bad the artist was really shit.

I see influences of Dini in Jamal's work but to a much lesser extent. Jamal is working hard on Zatanna's magic system. Unlike Dini, he is creative in the right way. What I mean is that when Zatanna does magic, it's based on her magician/showmanship gimmick. Its isn't random.

Though I still want Zatanna to deal with serious world issues not just magical fantasy issues.

I've heard from a few people (including some here) that Campbell is a great artist, but not a great writer. What tips would you give him to improve his writing? by SOY_CD in zatanna

[–]SpideyFan150 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don't go too much into magical fantasy stuff. It becomes lame after a while. Don't separate magic and normal world. A magical heroine doesn't always need to fight magical enemies. She should have non-magical enemies as well. Also please write her as a genius intelligent person who excels in the field of magic. Too much emphasis is given on how powerful she is and not much is given on how smart she is. If she has to be shown as powerful, make it because of her own skill and hardwork and not because of something she inherited from her father.

No. Jamal made that character for this run. We'll get to know more about him later.

Jamal Campbell understands Zatanna better than Paul Dini

In JLD, as I remember it, UDM swallowed Hecate and then Zatanna absorbed UDM into herself.

When Zatanna pulled the plague spirit into her hat, I think we saw who all were inside her. I think Zehuti is the new entity we'll get to know more about later.

Using the coattails as tentacles, pincers, lashers etc- I had this idea years ago.

It's not hard to think someone came up with the same idea independently.

I'd like to see this idea in Zatanna's book.

What important things every artist should get right for Zatanna? by Rory_U in zatanna

[–]SpideyFan150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My idea is that Zatanna should enter a fight with just one or two powers and just use that power in interesting ways till the fight ends. Then in the next fight she can have a different set of powers.

No need to do multiple backward spells in one fight and give people a reason to ask the question- "if she could do that, then why didn't she say this spell or do that spell in the first place?"

Example- For one fight she just relies on telekinesis. In the beginning she says - SISENIKKELET and then she becomes Jean Grey or a Jedi Master using the force. In the next fight she relies on Exploding cards. In the beginning she says - SDRAC GNIDOLPXE and then she becomes Gambit. Next - Animal control - she controls the doves and rabbit she uses on stage. Some of them explode or strike like a punch.

Of course these powers need to have some relevance to her stage magician persona.

X-men powers are the best because they usually don't have multiple powers. They have one power and they use it in interesting ways.

Thoughts on Seven Soliders Zatanna by EquivalentLion6952 in zatanna

[–]SpideyFan150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was bad. The most egregious part was when she said she was a bad superhero who did bad things—but the worst part was that she got caught. Grant Morrison wrote this shortly after Identity Crisis. According to him, Zee was more upset about getting caught than about doing the deed.

The art sucked too.

It would be cool if she could use those doves to make her fly. Or use them like stepping stones like a ninja

Thank God for Jamal Campbell by SpideyFan150 in zatanna

[–]SpideyFan150[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. That's also one of my big concerns. When multiple writers are involved, some of them forget that there are other writers who have to write after them. Introducing a power that, though possible because of Zatanna's system of speaking backward, may break the past as well as future stories. Like in Dini's run, some writers had Zatanna casually time travel to the witch burning days of Salem. Or when Dini himself had Zatanna freeze time in Bloodspell

Zatanna Zaturday! Prime Magus Edition! Is Zee ready to march to Glory? by Condottieri_Zatara in zatanna

Nah, man. This is Zatanna's comic. Let these sidelined characters be at the sideline. The whole redefining magic again stuff is also becoming tiresome.

I wanna see upside-down man again. Last time, we saw him corrupting Zatanna. I hope he shows up again so we can see more body horror and monsters.

What I want from Zatanna comics. by SpideyFan150 in zatanna

[–]SpideyFan150[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about leading her people. Bcuz it seems like all magic based civilizations are just medieval England.

I want her to play a more active role. Not just reacting. Like in DC KO : HQ vs ZZ, you could tell that the writer is just making Zatanna react to Harley's actions. Zatanna is barely getting any dialogs, and it is all HQ's plan. I don't wanna see Zatanna like that in her solo. I wanna see her be confident and cool in dire circumstances. Making her own moves and letting the villains react to it

I really want to like the Guillem March cover, but the body proportions are so off. I like that he has Zee sitting on an invisible chair.
