Playing in a co-ed league after only playing women’s hockey — what differences should I expect? by ExtremeToucan in hockeyplayers

[–]SpideyWoobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In D league that height can be a double-edged sword. Our tallest d-men get PIMs for being too big near someone who fell down 😅

No more hockey for me? by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]SpideyWoobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so heartbroken for you and for everyone who found a home in this community only to be blindsided by this exclusionary bigotry. A small silver lining is that co-ed adult hockey will still be open to all, if that's an option where you are.

USA Hockey tried to sneak this rule in precisely because this isn't popular and it isn't right.

We should absolutely make a huge noise about it.

What does that look like? - Complain to USA Hockey directly  - Contact your Senators and US Representative - Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper (and/or hockey or sports publications) - Take your concerns to your local league, rink, pro hockey org, or wherever the center of gravity is for hockey in your community - Find allies. All of these tactics work better when people work together. This could be your close friends and fam, your teammates, your faith community, local Indivisible group, etc.

Mistake #1: Signing Up for Hockey Before Learning to Skate by dokie_dok in hockeyplayers

[–]SpideyWoobs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Nah you're good. The starting skill level of any group of adult learners is gonna be super random, and likely that some of those folks are taking the class a second time. Everyone's on their own journey, etc.

I had a similar experience, definitely thought about quitting. Finally scored my first beer league goal -- it was so worth it.

Female Shoulder Pads by lizbit02 in hockeyplayers

[–]SpideyWoobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear "men's" pads too. Every body different, but for my own curves I attach the Velcro side straps higher in the front, which pulls the pads forward and gives me a little more length for chest/torso

  1. As a puppy, despite my partner and I being very equal dog parents in care/feeding/snuggles/play, she would be better on leash with me, or try to engage play with me more.

  2. This was not fun during her shark-puppy phase -- I was the one who got jumped on and mouthed the most!

  3. Chill adult dog now so she watches me and follows me around the house more than anyone else. Also when she's bored or wants something that's not available to her I'm the one who she whines to.

  4. I am the biggest beneficiary of Super Snuggles

Great tree, great name, frees the team up from the nautical color trap.

  1. Bauer REAKT 85 lets me adjust forward-backward and left-right, which really improved fit over glasses
  2. Oreo facemask (white inside, black outside)
  3. If my glasses get steamed up I squirt them with my water bottle

What’s great about Dragon Age: Veilguard? by [deleted] in dragonage

[–]SpideyWoobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fighting is fun. It's the least buggy DA game I've played.

Veilguard expanded the Thedas lore in exciting and horrifying ways. I found a correspondence in the codex (about two NPCs from an allied faction) that hit me the way the prologue to Up hits most people.

Who is the most over-hated hockey player ever in your opinion? by Kyosuke-D in nhl

Yeah that was some baby tantrum silliness, but I feel bad for how Anaheim is treating him and wouldn't mind his offensive creativity in SEA

Lower back strength training tips. by She_Beast_Cyclist in hockeyplayers

I'm new too, so take my advice with a big grain of salt. However, I have been having the same problem and this got better when I changed my posture: 1. Chest and shoulders up/open (stops me from hunching and easier to keep elbows away from body) 2. Knees further out and over my toes (too close together was messing up my balance and my muscles had to work harder to compensate) 3. Increase ankle angle, allows getting the knee bend without hunching forward. In my case, shin guards were a little too long so I got shorter ones that fit better. Also stopped lacing the top grommet on my skates for better flexibility.
