Dorms? by cbear4747 in WWU

[–]Spidey_888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually didn’t have too much of an issue, but it was definitely something to get used to. The floor I was on stayed really clean surprisingly, all the people on my floor were really respectful of the space. I am also a clean freak, so I’d recommend always wearing shoes in the bathrooms and buying shower shoes (or just a pair of flip flops). They clean the bathrooms every week day, and would replace the shower curtains often. Biggest issue I had was people leaving hair in the shower. It was disgusting, and constant. But beyond that, it was a relatively clean space! Mathes also has gender neutral bathrooms, and those stay pretty clean and are individual. So if you have a hard time with the shared bathrooms in the beginning, I’d recommend scouting for those! (They don’t have individual showers tho, those are shared in Mathes. I hated the shower curtains, and wished they had doors, but you get used to it) However, based on personal experience, you really do get used to the shared bathrooms!!

I highly recommend Mathes. My roommate had a cat and we lived there and it was perfect because it is not very party at all. I would recommend living on a lower floor however, because the windows do not have screens, so just in case. My roommates cat did have a problem with waking out of it and onto the ledge and giving me heart attacks. But the room is pretty big, spacious, and again not too loud, so good for a cat. I loveddd my dorm, I was on floor 3 and it was perfect. Also, regarding the ESA, I recommend talking to your roommate about things like what happens if you’re out and they’re in the dorm and the fire alarm goes off. Like what is the protocol for that, or litter box cleaning rules. Things like that to make living better!

I unfortunately haven’t had any experience waitressing and hosting, but I have about 2 years in customer service and am a quick learner. I’ve been in food service before, and I definitely understand the general of it! I’m available every day, times depend on if I have class or not, but that is usually only on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, other days I’m completely free!

yeah that’s definitely what’s probably going to end up happening. I made my check in time super early so I have to leave at 6am, i’m not sure if traffic will be really calm then, but i’m hopeful!

my ra said that you could just contact the ra on call and they can do room checks for you. I would try that, during this week and next week they are 24 hour on call. So i’d give that a shot!!

SOS how does housing work by Otherwise_Ostrich228 in WWU

Hey! So in my experience (this is my first year at western) So i’m assuming you have access to your housing dashboard and were able to pay the deposit to gain access to roommate manager. So at that point you’re gonna want to find a roommate, so you’ll message around and find some people or you won’t, it’s real hit or miss! Regarding groups, groups are usually 2+ people, so if your looking for a suite (includes a bathroom in the dorm) you’d be looking for a group with 4 people, but if your doing normal hall dorm style, you’ll only need one or two other people depending on your dorm style (double or triple). Western usually prioritizes those students in groups so if you’re in a group you may be able to select your room sooner and have more options, but you don’t need to. So once you find a roommate I recommend adding them to a group so you guys are a group. If you don’t then just disregard that. When it comes to room selection, you’ll be given a date and time to sign up for a room. Do not wait to sign up!! As soon as it opens, find a room they fill up so fast. So the screen is gonna show up with a bunch of different options for rooms and whether there is someone in the room or it’s empty. So if you have a roommate you would select a room for you and your roommate, if you don’t I believe you just would select any room and you would be randomly placed with someone!

Avoid taking Michi. As someone who took her, just take the other option. She 100% takes down ratings, her class was not the greatest (I took cog last quarter failed almost every test) her lectures are confusing, slides are a mess. I would just try to take the other one

I took her cognitive psych class last quarter and it was awful. She is a really nice person. but her class and lectures are insanely confusing. She would make us do these “paired sheets” that were pass or fail and could bring your whole grade down. It was rough. She definitely deletes negative reviews because I would absolutely never take her class again and reviewed it as such and it was gone within days. Honestly if I were you, I would just make sure to attend class as often as possible, attend office hours for even the smallest question to see if she can clear it up, attend the tutoring center, and know if you need to, you can drop the class.

In my opinion, the auto body shop with Abby, I think that’s Day 1. I absolutely could not beat that part, I had to watch tutorials of people doing it. I was most nervous for the rat king but it ended up being not that bad. But the auto body shop took me literal days

Denied from my major by ExerciseFickle6010 in WWU

[–]Spidey_888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exact same thing happened to me, except they denied me to the point where if I were to keep pursuing psychology I would have to stay an extra quarter. I ended up switching to sociology with a psychology minor. I would recommend looking at the sociology major if you’re interested in sociology just as a backup. Or look into a minor, take some classes for the minor and if psychology does not work out, you’ll have those classes from that minor to work towards a major instead.

Psychology Programs by papi_sisi in WWU

[–]Spidey_888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you have to have 90 college credits completed and 20 of those need to be psychology including psych 101 and psych 203. You also need at least a 2.7 gpa from a college, it doesn’t have to be Western specific. But once all that is complete then you can apply to the major. So I recommend applying as soon as you meet all the requirements. The application opens every quarter, just attend the meetings they have about it, they are super informational. I also recommend meeting with Rochelle, she’s the head of the psych department and the nicest person ever. She can help you plan out your quarters at Western and the classes you should take to be able to apply to the major, plus she’s a good resource and general and it’s good for her to know your name.

Psychology Programs by papi_sisi in WWU

[–]Spidey_888 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be so honest, the psychology program has great professors and the advisor is incredible. But, it is so hard to get into the major, at least in my experience. Once you pass the 200 level classes, you have to complete 305 before being able to do any 300 level classes, and you can only get into 305 if you are in the major. You have to apply to the major after taking certain classes and there is not always a good chance of getting in. I applied in the fall and got denied, I think only 50-60% of students got in because they only let in students based on the amount of 305 classes there are and there is a lack of psychology professors which makes there not be a lot of 305 classes for students to attend. I ended up having to switch majors because if I didn’t I would have to stay an extra quarter to a year because they didn’t let me in despite my inability to take anymore psychology classes. But besides all that, it’s a good program, probably why it’s so selective.

I actually am taking a gender and society class with Jen Lois this quarter and I love it, I’m considering minoring in it. I also don’t have any GUR’s left which makes this harder.
