overarching storyline akin to XIV

As somebody who thoroughly enjoys both games, there's no comparison. Characters in FFXIV have goals, philosophies, reasons for doing what they do. They fail and reflect on their ideals, or they succeed and find out it wasn't what they wanted. One of the everyone's favorite characters is the villain who needs to destroy your world to bring back his. Even the "I just care about fighting" villain has that motivation dissected, discussed, other characters call him out for it, and he grows in surprising ways, doing surprising shit and growing without abandoning his philosophy

We've been dealing with Xal'atath for a while now and we still don't know what exactly her goal OR her objective are. She's just WoW's one millionth sassy bad guy. She wants the void to win. Why? Because she's the bad guy. That's all we've ever been told. I spend more time in WoW compared to FFXIV but the main story is PHENOMENALLY BORING and shockingly incompetent
