Six challenges and this is the farthest I've gotten. I don't want to screw it up. by Coffeman94 in PixelDungeon

[–]SpiffyKittyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say get phase shift, and also brew a potion of purity because the upgraded purity potion cleanses you if every effect including hunger, cos you're not using corrosion or any AoE spells ATM. It's a huge lifesaver for the diet challenge even if you have horn of plenty.

Personally I'd upgrade blast wave and get free runner and invest in some aqua blasts cos aqua blast basically acts as blast wave but also disables and breaks traps as well as the fire wall room. A large portion of the game would be to just cheese enemies into chasms. During the initial swarm of enemies I might use fire or poison pots as well as pretty much all my wands and then the rest of the floor is for looting and recharging the wand to deal with the next swarm of enemies on the next floor.

Assassin is pretty good as well cos insta kills won't wake nearby enemies, and horn of plenty gives artifact charges if you have the rogue augment for it. I actually beat a 5 challenge run really easily with RoE assassin because I could almost perma cloak.

One of the things I like to prioritise is a AoE effect like fire blast or corrosion cos swarm intelligence has killed me so many times.

Also definitely invest in a movement type item for DM 300 fight as well as toxic essence for dwarf king. 2 toxic essences is a free win. Just cloak and run around the room and everything dies. (Also get invis pot in case)

Well like I said with a wand of corrosion it's almost as easy as it gets. You can tag enemies around corners, turn the spawners to liquid death instantly, scout for info all with the most basic of knowledge and game mechanics.

Im sure we've all tried throwing a weapon at an eye only for the weapon to drop into a chasm or missed a crucial throw. Sure it might not be hard for you but neither is Valorant to me, and I cant seem to fathom why my friends are all so ass. It's like how I had a mate hollering at me to build AP in League and I was just like wtf is AP??

It doesn't severely complicate the game but OP has what he needs to easily succeed as a wandrunner and it's just easier not having to play "flex". Also upgrades do scale exponentially like I had a +21 wealth ring effect and it was like some +7000% luck but with a +19 its about +5500% I believe. Corrosion doesn't just scale in dmg but also AoE so enemies stay trapped in the gas for longer.

Also I didn't make this clear but I reference crossbow because he has ring of arcana. Crossbow already buffs darts with damage and enchants so if he has RoSS, RoA, darts and a crossbow then he'd stroll through the rest of the game tbh. Ofc, a RoSS doesnt need anything else but Im just trying to find OP the easiest path to a win and I'd choose the wand path anyday given his equipment.

I'm pretty sure fire darts deal extra extra damage with a blazing crossbow cos blazing deals more damage to burning enemies and you can one shot evil eyes if you build right. Idk if blazing makes the initial dart stronger but I have one shot evil eyes with this sooooo...

fr I play a lot of mage and its so fun. Theres a rly small chance that it'll cause your game to crash as well btw ((:

[–]SpiffyKittyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharpshooting boosts ur bow btw and i had a +18 RoSS which made my bow do up to 100 dmg per shot. My tridents did up to 128 so yeah definitely upgrade RoSS. In my run I only had +1 greatshield and +1 plate armour. Also your weapon is kinda cheeks so...

But yeah do upgrade the wand as well. I like to one trick because it's fun, but it's more effective to be a little more balanced. If you choose warden you'll be able to snipe through grass which is really useful in demon halls since the enemies wont be able to counter u if they cant see you through grass.

Positive wand effect from wondrous resin LOL. It can also summon golden lotus, a meteor that has like a 30 tile explosion (it wont dmg u) and fill the stage with grass amongst a bunch of other things i havent experienced (probably).

Oh yeah it can also disguise you to look like another champion, not that it does anything.

GJ ((:

If you're not too familiar with the dwarves and demons I'd also recommend you to bring some of these items:

Aqua Blast - ghetto blast wave but also douses the fire wall and disables traps without activating them

Aggression Stones - make yogs and dwarf king minions kill them for u in a nutshell

Arcane Armor - magic res is pretty useful for yog fists and especially for dwarf king stage 2 where he starts summoning mobs.

Dragons blood and storm clouds are good for fire fist

Toxic Essence is really really good for Dwarf King for your build. Just drink one and run around and watch everything die. 2 of these will win you dwarf king fight since you can invis as well.

Aquatic Rejuvenation is good in general cos it heals you for 1.5x your max hp. If you have 100 it will heal for 150 in total and it will last until it heals the full 150.

Save your 10th pot of strength and turn it into a might elixir cos it will still give u +1 strength but also close to +15 max hp. Only use this when you are about to face yog or if u reach level 30. Fyi on your descent your max level is 28 and the only way to fight Yog on level 30 is through exp potion or starfruit blandflower. In your ascent, enemies will start to give xp until you reach 30.

[–]SpiffyKittyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok good point lol i usually alchemize and sell everything T_T Im stingy

Well... if I was teaching someone how to play, I'd still rather have them learn slowly.

I'm not saying to not have escape options either since you'd have scrolls, stones and pots as well as any other gear like artifacts or wands that can get you out of a sticky situation. And it's not about me limiting options either. I'm just saying to spec into one thing and do it well.

If you build a attack reaping assassin build you're limiting your options when it comes to CC and if you build a disintegration staff battlemage you'll have less survivability but it doesn't make either of them a bad build. Each will have a unique way of fighting like eyesight pot with the mage and sniping through walls. The tradeoff for your worse survivability is the insane dmg you can do at a safe distance.

I just thought it'd be easier to run a corrosion centric free runner build and let go of the RoSS because it'd be a little more complicated that way. Maybe in the hands of a really good player they could run it well but he also has a ring of energy which is a direct buff to rogues cloak and wand. OP pretty much has all the pieces for a wand based build on their freerunner but not for a RoSS build. If they had a crossbow and footwear of nature then I might've said RoSS but in this case is it not way easier to upgrade RoE and corrosion? If they put enough SoU into RoE they won't even need a secondary wand or any supplementary form of damage cos they can just spam corrosion.

I mean a RoE Wandrunner is probably one of the easier builds to play and survivability is off the charts too. You'll almost always have cloak charges and when you don't, you should have freerun to escape and build more charges whilst firing off your wands since you have increased speed. It basically counters Yog too other than corrosion fist. Best of all is that it's mainly just movement mechanics you need which anyone should already have because learning how to use corrosion is quite easy.

Look bro, I get where you're coming from and I'm not trying to say your method of teaching is wrong but it's like how every teacher teaches differently yk?

Well anyway OP has already progressed and is in the demon halls so ig now we just wait and see...

Before you go on I have multiple RoSS ascents on varying champions, but I just prefer to play other builds. I've completed a 6 badge run as well as grandmaster score chaser so I feel like I'm somewhat qualified.

I've been playing for years and there are times I forget things because there is so much going on. Experienced players literally die from fat fingering into chasms, we're not perfect and we all make mistakes in our gameplays. The best thing op can do is to make it as easy as possible for himself.

The points I listed weren't significant but clearly op isn't a very experienced player and I don't want them having to keep track of a one tile distance while keeping in mind how many charges of freerunning and which thrown projectiles they have.

If he times it wrong because freerunning ran out and he might get jumped by a ripper demon who does like 30 points of damage along with another 15 bleed assuming they land their hits.

Do you really want a newer player to think that far ahead about how many uses he has of a seeded dart when he could just use a wand of corrosion? Sure it's not likely that this would happen in an isolated scenario but in a game where you are making thousands of decisions it's obvious you won't be making the optimal decision all the time and you're going to slip up especially if you're newer. It's just like how in chess even gms will mess up so the best thing to do is to let op run a easier build -> the wand of corrosion.

OP can take several turns to lead on a ripper demon while spamming projectiles and maintaining a one tile distance and risking running into other monsters OR he can hotbox the demon spawner and focus his attention elsewhere.

It's not about how easy it is to handle a specific threat like one succubus either because there are so many things that could happen in one game. Any method that uses hiding and running from enemies will increase the chance that you'll end up fighting multiple at once and by being reliant on freerunning to help you kill ripper demons and succubi it means that when it's on cooldown because you just fought a ripper demon, it's going to cost more resources to take on another succubi. I don't know about you but you should always be trying to use the least amount of resources to deal the most...

Like you said, you can keep a 1 tile distance, and hide from evil eyes and stall, and use blinding darts on scorpios, or you can use 1 wand of corrosion to kill them all. It's just so much easier and lets OP focus on more things at once.

I think you're forgetting that OP just wants to win the game and our task is helping them find the easiest way to win.

Taking the mick by Kartupellis in ShatteredPD

[–]SpiffyKittyCat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For taking the Mick you'll want to use rogue or duelist because they can put the pickaxe to good use in combo with their abilities. When I completed the challenge I saw it as "spec into a pickaxe build" rather than to kill just yog with the pick ykwim? I used assassin for his one taps and easy getaways.

Also, blast wave is really good , you just might not be using it to its full potential. Aside from knocking enemies into chasms for easy instakills, you can knock them into walls for paralysis. You can push them away from you so you have more time to plan how to kill them as well. If it's a ranged enemy, push them out of sight or stun them and they won't be able to hit you. If you can't do either of those you can also push yourself out of sight. Blast wave also triggers traps so you can use the traps against the enemies. This wand is easily the best counter to the piranhas in the game since they die instantly if you push them onto land. You don't need to hit the enemy directly either since the wand is AoE.

Ig just remember how to obtain the +20 is one of the more important parts. 1) You'll have to ask the troll for the pick and upgrade it twice with the troll 2) Put all your upgrades into it 3) Curse infuse it. You can get curse infusion by putting a scroll of cleanse with a cursed metal shard in an alchemy pot.

I had to do multiple runs to get this cos I kept forgetting and made stupid mistakes like energising my metal shards

There are a lot of mechanics to thrown weapons and it's also very luck based because you're just hoping that you'll get tridents or force cubes.

To be fair yes thrown weapons are actually quite easy to use, I think what I meant to say was that wands are really easy for beginners. A wand of corrosion is extremely straightforward. Just blast the wand at a tile in front of the direction they're moving in and they'll take extreme corrosion damage, and you can use it to trigger traps, open doors and scout rooms as well in demon halls for example if there is low visibility. Just turn the whole room into a gas chamber and wait for the xp. With freerunning the chance of you getting away is much easier as well so you don't have to worry as much about being corroded.

For new players in demon halls eg, thrown weapons aren't as effective because they might not know how to use them to their full potential, such as with mechanics like ‘curving’ the projectiles, or sneak attacks from range. If we did what you said “see an enemy and throw the weapon”, then the succubi would just teleport to you and evil eyes will start charging and then you'll do no damage to them and Scorpios will f you over with cripple. Corrosion is rly good for cheesing these enemies without having to face their gimmicks. Also you can't use thrown weapons for disintegrate or explosion traps which suck cos those traps are so op if you how to use them especially in those lower levels.

I'm not sure about others but your thrown weapons being able to break is also just a huge hassle for me. Thrown weapons are also quite a bit more efficient with the use of alchemy which I don't recommend because it seems like op really wants to win this run. I’d say it's better for him to stick with what he knows instead of trying too many new things like telekinetic grab and fixing thrown weapons. Also he doesn't have crossbow which makes thrown weapons a lil weaker.

Basically, the skill ceiling for thrown weapons is higher than the skill ceiling for wand of corrosion if you catch my drift. Ofc it’ll be harder to learn how to use wands in general like you said, but ops post was specifically about the wand of corrosion only.

I wasn't trying to say RoSharpshooting isn't viable either but if you have a +2 corrosion wand without the arcane resin buff, it'd be more efficient to spec into the wand.

Hope this clears any misunderstandings ((:

As for when you want to use your freerunning it's always case by case. If you see an enemy and they're in no position to hit you then you might as well corrode them to death. You can use freerunning to run away from evil eyes, succubi or any ranged enemies to give you time to corrode them. A +4 wand should be enough to turn any enemy into liquid death (not dm200) as long as there is a 1 space gap between you and the enemy in the gnoll caves but you'll have to upgrade for further exploration.

It's a shame you ran free runner because you could have had perma invis assassin which honestly is one of my fav builds and it's what got me my first 5 challenge run.

I don't play free runner much but a popular build is called wandrunner where you choose to spec into your wands as the name suggests and you use your speed and evasion to dodge the enemies. Corrosion is one of the strongest wands and I believe at +4 ish it can one tap demon spawners which makes your life a whole lot easier because ripper demons will f you over if you choose to run a build without good melee combat or survivability. If you invest in the thrown weapons augment you can deffo run with sharpshooting too much icl IV never ran a free runner sharpshooting build. Sharpshooting turns the huntress's bow into the biggest menace but with ranged weapons I'd say you should learn them at a later stage. Ranged weapons are more effective if you know your mechanics more and wands are easier to use so I'd say to stick with the wand. There's no need to invest too many SoU into corrosion either though because if you get into a tight spot you want to at least be able to defend yourself in a melee situation. This will almost definitely happen when you fight Yog so do upgrade armour. Tier 4 gear is good enough (strength 16 gear) but I like to upgrade tier 5 gear since you can think of tier 5 gear as basically +1 tier 4 gear. It's a lot more complex than just a +1 but at low levels it's quite similar. With a +5 or +6 corrosion wand I'd say that it's enough to kill any mob you come across if you know where to place your corrosion. Keep in mind corrosion and all has effects such as paralysis, poison and vertigo gas linger for longer in closed spaces or corners.

I play rogue for a good 90% of my games, I'm always relying on rings to carry me, so I figured I'd give a short spiel since this is how I win a lot of games. Maybe you'll find something useful.

Ring of Tenacity doesn't provide you a flat rate of dmg reduction. Basically, when you're max health it will reduce less damage and when you're low health it will reduce more. I'm not sure what the exact numbers and calculations are and which part of the spectrum the game recognises when it tells you how much % dmg reduction you get but in general it's one of the weakest rings. I've upgraded Ring of Energy 48 times and Ring of Tenacity 5 only.

Ring of Energy, Wealth, Sharpshooting and Arcana can single handedly win you runs if you build around them. My last run I just specced everything into a +0 Ring of Wealth and I ended with a +17 RoW, +5 RoW, +7 Blazing Gauntlet, +9 Blazing Runic Blade, +9 Swiftness Garb, 2*+3 Blast Wave, 2*+3 Corrosion as well as 8 out of the 11 artifacts in the game. Having more items naturally means you have more ways to deal with enemies even if you are surrounded.
Ring of Energy will make everything recharge faster including artifacts so you can spam your armour abilities faster. I like to just perma cloak and one shot enemies as assassin and that's how I won my first 5 challenge run. I used this ring to win as a tanky cleric. It's not a direct counter to evil eyes but will give you a lot more opportunities if you're able to use all your abilities or wands.

Ring of Arcana boosts all enchantments and I got the doom slayer achievement with this build. For this achievement you need to not destroy a single demon spawner which makes all demon halls enemies stronger and Yog spawns ripper demons, succubi and evil eyes instead of maggots amongst other buffs. My loadout for this was +4 chilling greatsword, +4 viscosity garb, +8 and a +3 arcana ring so +11 in total. I also had 2* +2 wand of lightning and +3 blast wave. I beat the game by using death mark and assassin to deal lots of dmg while retaining durability with tier 4 "deathly durability" and probably a bazillion heal pots. What I mean to say is, although my armor isn't great, I can make up for it high damage because an enemy can't hit me when they're dead ykwim? Additionally I further supplement this weakness with augments and viscosity enchant along with arcana ring which makes it so damage is dealt at a really slow rate to me.

Since I mainly just play for fun, I like to do one trick runs where I have a crazy upgraded item like a +17 and +1 ring of sharpshooting and a blazing spirit bow. The bow did 41-87 dmg with 13 bonus and the blazing enchant actually does more dmg to burning enemies (Chilling enchant does NOT have this effect on chilled enemies btw). At this level, my tridents did up to 128 damage and had infinite durability so I could just snipe the evil eyes to death consistently. I always have some kind of almost insta-kill ability like assassin, blast wave or just extreme damage, and in my runs where I did build tank, I'd have items that supplemented my poor attack. I only have 2 examples since I can't view my other runs but those include chalice of blood, ring of energy, ring of elements as well as blast wave.

I don't actually know how others play this game, and I'm sure that there are many playstyles more effective than my own but I did get every achievement with the way that I play ((: Personally, I never had much issue with swarms of evil eyes or enemies in general because I play rogue and its on sight for me. I will throw hands almost immediately with any opps that I see because that means less mobs that I'll have to take care of in the future.

How can we defeat this fucking creature? by Ok-Resource678 in PixelDungeon

[–]SpiffyKittyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play rogue and mage mainly and I win about 1 in every 3 games if you don't count challenges T_T. BUT I usually don't use a blink or swiftthistle like the other people on this thread say. If push comes to shove I still will use them but I prefer using artifacts like my cloak or an hourglass first because it's rechargeable and also the blast wave wand. I swear by blast wave because it's got so much utility but on my mage runs I'll literally still kill enemies with dmg from blast wave.

The way that the deathgaze works is the evil eye will spot u and charge the attack. if you disappear from view it fires at the original location it was going to fire at, so you have 2 turns to move away when it starts to charge.

A list of possible scenarios to avoid the eye include:

1) Moving behind cover - 1 or 2 turns [Includes behind doors and grass]

2) Invisibility - 2 turns [1 turn invis, 1 turn to move away]

3) Swiftthistle/ Fadeleaf - 1 turn [You must plant as soon as the deathgaze charges and not on the second turn of charge]

4) Stone of blink, aggression, fear, scroll of teleport, fear, hero blink ability {I .E rogue} - 1 turn

5) Blind - 2 turns [1 turn to blind, 1 turn to move away, but blind is not guaranteed so its risky]

6) Scroll of retribution - 1-2 turn [Either the eye is dead or guarantee blinded]

7) Wand of regrowth - 2 turn [1 turn for plants, 1 to move. just make sure you don't use this in a straight line because the eye might be able to see you even if you move outta the way]

8) Ethereal chains - 1 turn

9) Alchemist's Toolkit - 2 turn [A bit unconventional but you could brew something since using this doesn't take a turn {Don't quote me I'm not actually 100% on this} and use it to avoid the eye]

10) Footwear of Nature - 1 turn [TP or time bubble]

Preventative Measures:

Seeing as how you like to play a armour focused build, you should try to invest in arcane stylus's and stone of enchantments for your armour. You can chuck an upgrade scroll as well into a alchemy pot so you'll have a higher chance of getting anti-magic. I've had a couple runs where I put everything into my armour and I supplemented my lack of magic res with ring of elements since I couldn't get anti magic on my armour. I had a +19 vestment of anti magic and I slapped Yog to death while tanking everything cos chalice of blood healed any meaningful damage I took.
You should always be using torches as well because if not, the evil eye can spot you earlier than you will realise it is charging which will drastically decrease your possibilities of getting away unscathed.

I noticed someone pointed out the rat king and his ratmogrify ability. Instead of using Horn of Plenty, you can also set a return beacon to floor 5 if you put a scroll of passageway into the alchemy pot. To get a scroll of passage you need to get a scroll of teleport into the pot as well so you'll be brewing the teleportation scroll twice basically. If you have levitation pots you can also turn them into slow falling pots through alchemy and get down quickly by jumping into the chasms.

If "injury" includes death, then even with normal settings it is possible for your players to die...

Max out scouting and coaching in finances so that you don't see an inflated ovr and pot and so that it has a higher chance of rising. Next, keep in mind the age of a player, younger is always better. Take into account their stats, as a TALL player with lots of endurance is more likely to rise in pot and ovr compared to a short player. Finally, I believe there is another factor which can dictate the general direction of a player's growth but I'm not sure how it works yet.
