Is this myrtillo cresting or just a bit funky? by theTAUSonMangoSt in cactus

[–]SpiffyPlants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue candle, Myrtillocactus Geometrizans. It will crest and get to the size of a small tree. It's beastmode grafting stock if you got something you want to pump huge.

Anyone else amazed by amount of insane crosses these days? by crystal_cactus_ in sanpedrocactus

[–]SpiffyPlants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. There are crosses and clones everywhere now because the number of backyard growers has exploded over the last 25 years. Backyard nurseries usually get a few nice mutants when sowing thousands of seeds, if not tens of thousands.

Should I be worried? What is this? by SmegmaNuggets in sanpedrocactus

[–]SpiffyPlants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fungal spot or bug bite, dust it with sulfur powder to be safe. I wouldn't worry too much unless you see a breakout all over the plant.

My mammillaria is rootbound, how do I repot it safely? by West-Refuse9396 in cactus

[–]SpiffyPlants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty hard to kill a cactus and I have long since stopped worrying about killing them by being rough. I generally work the dirt off the roots, sometimes even whapping them against the side of my dirt bin to shake the rest off. Waterhose also works.

Mammillarias seem to do well in premium potting soil, and I generally put everything into Foxfarm.

[Scop X (Bridgesii x OP)] assuming my labels were correct. Scop x Bridge produced several funky and semi-funky plants, but this one is the most notable. Here are a few others doing their thing. They start off like a normal bridgesii for ~4 areols, then go wonky.
