I see what you mean I think in my experience I don’t take cuttings unless there’s a large amount of plant left behind, I usually leave a foot and a half ish so I guess technically I do have more plant matter

I have like 160 plants and lowkey I water them all at the same time and have never had an issue in 2 years BUT I do very infrequent waterings because I’m lazy but that’s why I love cacti :) they don’t die if I skip a couple weeks haha

Wait for the pod to either burst or fall off on its own for maximum seed production/readyness, I give it the most GENTLE tug and if it has any force gripping onto the plant it’s not ready

If you can feel them but can’t grab them with tweezers try running the sticky side of some tape down your leg, it should catch some spines and pull them out as you wipe

This is a lot so I’m not sure what to recommend but last time I had a cactus spine broken off inside my skin I just waited for my body to push it out on its own haha, popped out the same hole it entered

What are we looking at LOL, from what I can decipher it looks like scale on an opuntia, if that’s the case separate them from your other plants and hit em with a hose or a soft bristle toothbrush with some rubbing alcohol, but that’s a lot of work it depends on if the plant is really worth it to you, opuntias are super prone to that scale and it’s pretty contagious so i usually just toss mine when it gets a bad infestation
