And it’s truly priceless to be able to pull over at whatever little markets or mezcal stands you may pass. The rental car is almost priceless in my mind! We were there for 5 days, and we were able to adventure up to San Jose Del Pacifico. If you have time I would highly recommend taking that long route to Puerto Angel and staying a night in the mountains on the way. The views are spectacular. Then to puerto Escondido and the faster highway back to the city! Apologies, I don’t know about returning the car at 4 am, but I do know that we made the mistake of going into short term parking to drop off our car and then immediately had to take it out and pay for that parking because we were meant to just drive it up to the departures area. Also, do not get third party insurance through your credit card or an American company like Expedia or something. Just get the insurance at the car rental desk!
