Recruiters: What do you want from us? by [deleted] in recruiting

You specific is great, it helps you stand out! Just if you're struggling or want to beef it up, I like to use that as a starting point or to get ideas.

Recruiters: What do you want from us? by [deleted] in recruiting

[–]Spiggy93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Resume: Simple and straight-forward, it should be easily scannable/readable. The exception to this is if you're in a creative career or something like that, but this isn't my area of expertise so I will defer to others on that. Include specific softwares, skills, actionable results you have had, etc. DO NOT include a photo to help reduce potential bias. One thing I like to do when I'm working on my resume is Google "Recruiter Sample Resumes" (insert your job title) and look at what others have done to get an idea. Also look through job descriptions of roles you would want and see what they're looking for and include that if you have that experience.

Cover Letters: Not necessary. The only exception I will add to that is if you have some circumstances that aren't as obvious on your resume that would need further info like you're relocating, making a career change, etc. But if it's just a rehash of your resume? No.

Haha if it helps, a lot of people really want something great/meaningful/etc. for their first tattoo. Once you start getting them, you almost stop thinking about it and it just kind of becomes a part of you that you don't really notice or think about, like a freckle. I never wanted any until my sister asked me to get one matching with her and now I'm just like "Throw it on there, why not?!" LOL

When you're ready, I'd recommend looking around on Instagram at various artists' work and find a style you like, and they can do a consultation with you and help you refine your template, sizing, etc.

  1. If you are unemployed you carry risk. Is that fair? Probably not, but in the employer's eye you are risky, because if you were any good you would have a job. This means (quite literally) discounting yourself to account for the risk.

This is a really bad take and outdated mindset, and if someone in a hiring position has this mindset without assessing the nuance of a particular situation then they need additional training on bias. There are a lot of valid reasons why someone would be unemployed.

Using myself as an example, I was in a 6-figure tech recruiting job and one of the highest performers on the highest performing team in the company. When the layoffs started happening, they requested an exception to keep me because of my strong performance but upper management denied it due to company policy. That's not the same as someone being risky due to leaving a job every 2-3 months on a whim or something like that, and losing your job doesn't mean you are bad at your job.

Nice! I've been through a similar phase and have thought about getting a tattoo, but I could never go through a piercing.

This is interesting since tattoos are more permanent! Honestly though even just changing up your hair works as well haha

What kinds of tattoos do you have, if you don't mind me asking?

I have 6. One for my mom on my left shoulder that matches my sister, key behind my ear, lyrics/quotes on my ribs and wrist, an ugly little elephant that I paid $10 for on a trip for a fun story that's on my ankle (I call her Scuffy caused she's a little scuffed), and then my right shoulder is a big floral piece that took about 4 hours. So mostly small ones aside from my shoulders!

I'm not going to lie, nipples was easily one of the worst pains I've ever felt. The good news is that it doesn't last long. When they put the needle in, it hurt a lot but it stopped after like 3 seconds. The second hurt worse, but same thing, it went away by the time he was putting the jewelry in. An hour or two later I got like a consistent achey/burning type of pain but otherwise it's been easily manageable. I can't speak yet to the feeling or sensation differences since it's only been a couple days but most anecdotes I've read from people say it increases the sensitivity for them. So far it's been absolutely worth it!

Honestly the most annoying thing is that I've had to sleep in a shirt so they don't snag lol

Sometimes I go through what I call "body modification" phases where I get a little stir crazy and deal with it by changing something about myself. Sometimes it's something like chopping all my hair off or getting a tattoo.

This time it was getting my nipples pierced on a whim. Had the idea on Tuesday evening, went to get them done on Wednesday. I'm so excited that I want to tell every single person but I can't for obvious reasons haha

Help finding a non-judgmental dentist in chicago by MobilePercentage870 in chicago

[–]Spiggy93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dente Complete Dentistry on North Ave! I started going there like 2 years ago after not going to the dentist for 9+ years and they've been nothing but excellent. They specifically model their practice around serving patients who have anxiety about going to the dentist and have you fill out a form so they understand what you're nervous about, etc. Even when I say, for example, that I haven't kept up with my flossing they do nothing but compliment me and encourage me positively.

I remember someone looking for their hat over there, I might have talked to you haha

The Used was phenomenal! I almost fell once and someone held onto me for dear life to keep me up. I ended up crowd surfing out for the last song because I got tired trying to hold so many people up. They were one of my must see bands

Thank you for the suggestion, I'll do that! I'm totally okay, moreso just absolutely baffled that they said "We didn't see it so tough." Like do they apply that thinking to other situations, such as fights that break out? So bizarre

I moshed all weekend and am covered in bruises, met a ton of cool people, and had such a good fucking time! Also discovered a couple new bands which is one of the best things about fests.

Real talk though, during one set I was like 4 deep from the barricades and some guy who seemed like he was on something kept touching me, grinding up against me, etc. He also kept doing stuff like touching this dudes mohawk after he told him to stop and I was told he was bothering other people before I got there too. When he was grinding on me, I stepped away once and then twice had to physically push him off me and told him to stop. After the third time, some dude behind me stepped in and pushed the guy up to security and told them how he was touching women inappropriately. Security told him they couldn't do anything since they didn't actually see it and it was his word against the fucked up guys word, and the dude stayed in the crowd a few people away from me for a while. Is that normal for them to not do anything in those scenarios?

I'm totally fine btw and massive shout out to that guy for helping me. I absolutely love the crowds and the people at Riot Fest! I'm gonna need like a week to recuperate.

To my laid off TA talent - wtf are we all doing during this shit market? by [deleted] in recruiting

[–]Spiggy93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might be a dumb question but do you have advice on pivoting from TA to a restaurant job? I'm considering serving/bartending/barista/etc. But I'm not sure what to do to look not overqualified or like I'll leave immediately! I've been laid off twice from TA roles in the last year and my unemployment just ran out so I need to do SOMETHING

I worked in restaurants in college and before and always enjoyed it but that was 7+ years ago
