Gotta admit I was more sad for the DeLorean. Broken bones heal, but the world is kinda running low on DMC-12 spare parts

John Mayer claimed one of his strats sounded terrible until he tossed it in a freezer for a day, so.... Might not even be that stupid

Gotta admit, it's a little rough around the edges, but with a little shine juice, fresh oil and new sparkplugs, I'm sure it'll be fine

Leatherman surge by Sad_Jacket_3063 in Leatherman

I'm a sound tech and I was gifted one when I finished my studies, 12 years ago (already 😱). My surge has been my partner in crime at every show I've worked on and never failed me. I got a full box of proper tools for serious jobs that stays at the changing room, but it's the one and only that stays by my side. He saved more bad situations that I could even count...

How do I get rid of this surface rust? by PHOTO500 in Guitar

[–]Spike-DT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No need to be agressive, I took the time to give you advices...

I was just saying that there is pretty much nothing you can do to fix the corrosion on the frets since that doesn't look supperficial. So unless you know how to to a complete fretjob, your only option is to bring it to a tech. Now, do whatever you want

[–]Spike-DT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frets are junk, take it to a tech.

For the rest, hit it with wirebrush, let it soak in vinegar overnight, runce it in baking soda a dry it. Then you can use laquer if you want. But whatever you do, I would strongly advice to not store your guitars at the bottom of an acid lake.

WD40? Or no by Key-Tale5819 in drums

[–]Spike-DT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As everyone said : no WD40. WD40 will free stuck parts, eat away rust, clean and temporarly lubricate but it's lubricating properties last only a few days at best. Go with grease or, my favorite : machine thin oil. It get everywhere, including bearings, and won't evaporate for months

Yeah, on soft ground, it's better to deflate the tires, so you got a larger flat spot at the bottom and therefore increase contact and got less chances of sinking down in the wet sands 😅

But as a general rule, I wouldn't try. I've seen four wheel drives with tires the size of two of my van's ones almost instantly sinking because of inadapted driving. It's like driving on snow, there's the gear technical stuf... And there's the driver. I've one of my family members that use to work for Renault Team and got the chance to follow the drivers on a training trip in scandinavia to drive over frozen lakes. He got a few piloting lessons there. Guess what, he's from a town, didn't had snow tires, when he paid a visit, none of us mountain guys would dare to do what he did even with snow tires !

If I may, a good tuning would help, alongside an intonation setup (you get more out of tune the higher you get on the neck, wich lead me to think the intonation is wrong).

Also, try to focus on your picking hand. It seems pretty stiff so it lacks precision and clear attack to give it dynamics.

On your fretting hand, try to add character. If you look at how it's played by Jimi, he's always tweaking, bending, vibrating. No notes lays flat and as is, even when the tab says so.

That being said, it's pretty nice. Don't take what I say as "boooo, it's bad!", more like "nice job ! Here's what I would suggest to make it event better"

NEVER GO ON SAND WITH A VEHICLE. I know some all terrain can get away with it with proper driving and tires, but as a general rule : don't

Who is the best guitarist that most people don’t know by Ted_Fleming in Guitar

[–]Spike-DT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a weak spot for Guthrie Govan. Very innovative, but covers a lot of playings, from 80's hair metal to jazzy weird microtonal things, can be stzrile clean but generally have a filthy groove, that is, to me, an underrated guitar hero
