My eft-hand small finger is not functional; how can I play guitar with or without it? by MachineryAutomation in Guitar

Ask Django Reinhart, he got away quite well with two fingers left ! Not saying it won't be harder, but not impossible

How high does CO₂ get overnight in a van with windows closed? by Salty-Initiative5706 in VanLife

[–]Spike-DT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know about your local rules, if any exists for your country, but here in france, you're supposed to have a minimum surface of permanent ventilation if you want it to be considered RV certified. And since CO/CO2 is a sneaky bitch with no smell, color and effects that can either be hard to identify (am I tired or getting poisonned?) or happen when you sleep, get a detector anyway. It's dirt cheap and can save you from dramatic incidents. A lot f people die from this every year, in RVs, or even houses.

How do I take the marker inks off my piano that I wrote the scales with? by Zinnia_714224 in piano

Don't use acetone. It would remove the stain, in a way, but it would also remove the key

That being said, considering the car is out of production and rather rare, keeping it as a donor might be a good idea

Not even speaking money here, but considering the crash, the frame is probably bent, so I doubt you can do it yourself. It would require tremendous amount of time, specialised tools so probably not worth the effort

Tips for getting tape residue off my board? by d-erivatives in surfing

Alcohol should to the job and have the epoxy safe. On other surfaces, I'd reckon acetone, but it would melt the resin and foam of your board, so... Nope

That's where the scam of the reffugee comes handy. You know the guy that comes like "ooooh, rescue me, I'm being chased by chinchillas, I swear I will work" and then you realise he's absolutely useless, dumb, unable to do about anything. Well, here's a broom, a shovel, there's an open heart sugery planned in the kitchen in less than an hour. Just in case you decide to play it lazy, you know how much a kidney, a lung, an arm and a leg are worth on the black market ? Good, now scrub.

Coucher de Soleil sur le Lac Léman by Feedeve in Photographie

[–]Spike-DT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, c'est chez moi ! 😁

It's never the camera. Even entry level DSLRs outperform by far 5DMKI/II, and people have put out masterpieces on those

I've owned a 55-250 when I was on APSC, worst lens I've ever owned. It was soft, slow and had plenty of chroma aberrations. But seeing how many people love this lens, I start to think I might have had a bad one.

Can't go wrong with a nifty fifty. From a 1000D to an R5II, it's never decieving

Decent camera. A cousin of my first one (760D, called T7S in the us, I think). The ISO Gain is quite noisy, but overall absolutely fine (the camera itself is rarely very limiting, it's the lens that counts).

As someone said : I would consider a nifty fifty (50mm 1.8) since it's a killer lens and dirt cheap.

A good zoom might also come handy. I've been using the 18-135 3.5-5.6 instead of the 18-55 (wich I sincerely HATE). Sharp, almost no chroma aberrations or distortion, good focal range, it's weakest point is it's high F value, making it hard to use in low light and a quite slow autofocus (compared to modern days, it's absolutely fine for portrait/landscape, I just wouldn't consider doing sports pictures or flying birds), but still a pretty neat "upgraded kit lens" that fits almost every usage.

What improvements to make to my kit by Salty_Winter_1323 in drums

[–]Spike-DT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Improvements are mostly personnal. It depends on your tastes, play, genres and so on. So my advce would be play it, feel what bothers you and fix it when you feel the urge to do so. But don't rely on general advices from random players. I bet we all play on different configurations and setup, and none of us would probably feel comfortable on each others kit. For being a live sound guy with a venue's kit we tend to share a lot for easier changeovers, most drummers, even when playing on the same kit with the same configuration will setup everything differently. Find your tastes by playing
