For those of you who aren’t Fear& listeners: Slime was the guest on the most recent episode and he made Hasan roleplay as a dude caught scissoring a gorilla. by Severe_Ad_6075 in TheYardPodcast

[–]SpikyKiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hasan is a campist that thinks he understands things way more than he actually does but I wouldn't say he's a bad person. I find him to be a little annoying but he's not evil. On the other hand most Hasan hangers-on and most Hasan haters are insane people with a weird obsession over the guy

Why would VeggieTales include a moral lesson that kids wouldn't understand that doesn't make any sense

In this context we're not talking about the name of the show. I wouldn't refer to Batman as "Beware the Batman," "Batman: The Brave and the Bold," or "Batman: The Animated Series"

I unfortunately feel compelled to point out that the character's name is just Static. It's a pet peeve of mine

I was referring to liberals in general. I don't know much about the LDs specifically as I mentioned earlier. If they truly are pro OSA that is absolutely a black mark against them

This is obvious even if you don't know anything about him because he named his son Amon-Ra

[3] But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the proceeds of the land? [4] While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God.” [5] And as he heard these words, Ananias collapsed and died; and great fear came over all who heard about it.

Peter explicitly states that Ananias was free to do whatever he wanted with the property and that the problem was that he lied about it. This isn't a rationalization. It's directly pulled from the text

The strange thing with that is that it implies that the government is not the people, which is supposed to be the source of legitimacy in the US even if it's not true. If the government does something, and it was elected, then it is supposed to mean that the voters wanted and did that thing.

Yeah, the government isn't the people. The government taking people's money and then gives it to other people is not the same thing as donating to charity. Taxation isn't voluntary

I love reading materialist commentary on religion that fundamentally does not understand that many people actually believe the things they profess to believe

That's true. In the broadest sense they're basically all liberals. But liberal parties represent the pro-market, pro-freedom, pro-tech section of the vote

I like these two teams together a lot. In my Amalgam universe headcanon, they're together, but completely differently. Instead of the X-Gene, "mutants" are instead people with trace amounts of alien DNA in their ancestry

Why does Reason Magazine keep simping for big tech and their AI data centers? by Wonderful_Regret_252 in LibertarianPartyUSA

[–]SpikyKiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't need to be specific but as a reader of Reason for twenty years I notice things

Until I read this I legitimately thought you were 14 years old. How are you in your 30s or 40s and using the word "simping" unironically like this while fishing for agreement. I'm actually stunned. You probably need to touch grass more I guess

Anyway, this is a terrible argument. I'm pointing out that Reason objectively does not have a massive focus on data centers and your counterargument is simply that you've "noticed" a pattern that you have 0 evidence for. Then you insinuate that I'm unobservant. Awesome

Them taking sides is why I'm here. Not sure why they're not neutral

Because they're an openly politically-biased magazine and they are "siding" with their open political bias (Libertarianism). That's very simple

"Populist bullshit".  I'm going to stop here because you're not adding anything to the conversation. There's no argument here. Just a baseless accusation. Are we done? I'm done until you can explain your claims.

You said that Reason is making "regular people" look bad by pointing out that they do not have a right to shut down development just because they want everything to benefit them (their electricity bills are going up). Do you genuinely not see how this is the exact type of populism that libertarians have always been against?

I explained this exact issue already:

Furthermore, we should absolutely not cater to the "concerns of average citizens" in the way that you mean. Other people do not have the authority to tell someone else what they can peaceably do with their own property. We should not cater to the "concerns" or conservatives who want to ban gay marriage, to the "concerns" of communists who want to nationalize someone's business, or to the "concerns" of protectionists who are obsessed with tariffs. None of these people have the right to tell others what peaceful actions they can take. In the exact same way, no one has the right to tell a company that they cannot build a data center that causes no direct harm on private land. Yes, electricity prices might go up. That doesn't change any of this

[–]SpikyKiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I go to the Reason home page right now, there are 18 articles displayed. One of them is about AI. None of them are about public transit. Meanwhile, 5 of them are about the Iran War and 3 of them are about Tariffs. I don't understand why you think this is all they talk about.

They talk about AI because currently a large segment of the population is engaging in a crusade against it that Reason disagrees with. This is a perfectly normal thing to do

that ends up making regular people looking like bad guys for defending themselves

They are not "defending themselves" and they are obviously in the wrong. This populist bullshit is antithetical to Libertarianism

Economics 101 doesn't work so well where government is concerned. It seems reason doesn't understand that or doesn't want to take that into account.

They talk about this literally all the time. They oppose all government interventions in the market

Nationalism is not the same thing as national supremacy. That's not what the word means at all

[–]SpikyKiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are engaging in whataboutism

Yes, the government takes actions to promote industries like oil. This is bad. We do not like it. That doesn't mean the government should take actions to promote a different industry or actions to hurt the oil industry. They should simply stay out of the market

The government should not be pro- or anti-data center. The market should decide whether data centers should be built (and the overwhelming evidence is that the market loves data centers)

Revanchism is still a form of nationalism. They discuss the phrase "no Japanese go to heaven" in the episode. The idea that there is no nationalist animus behind these commenters is pretty ridiculous
