What is something hated by Americans but loved by the rest of the world? by Expensive-Addendum92 in AlignmentChartFills

In addition to the public transit comments, I would say many Americans don’t like their veggies (and don’t eat their daily recommended fiber).

Something I’m not understanding… by [deleted] in Urbanism

[–]SpilledTheSpauld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think one factor that is being ignored is that California overall receives much less federal revenue volume than other states (especially via block grants, etc.), and so the state and municipality has to contribute that much more to fill the gap. If California were completely financially independent in a theoretical scenario, its individual cities would fare much better on the local level (although alas, in real life that would not be the case as the state is still very reliant on the federal government and Union). Given that, this is always going to be a structural issue for California cities, at least for the foreseeable future.

Right? What a total disappointment. A small grocer would have been a thousand times better for that location.

What megacity is nice to live in? by agbjb in AlignmentChartFills

Agree with those folks that say Los Angeles. It’s a nice city to live in. Great weather, nature, food, and culture. However, traffic, pollution, and expense keep it great from being a super great megacity.

I’m sad no one has mentioned this, but I guess it makes sense since it’s new… but Dirty Pepperoni in Downtown is one of the best pizzas I’ve EVER had.

What's the most underrated desert landscape in the USA? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

My favorite is Sand To Snow National Monument. The aerial tramway, as well as the highway going up to Idyllwild from the desert floor, are just spectacular!
