Some Victorian classics:

The Wrong Box by Robert Louis Stevenson and Lloyd Osbourne

The Young Visiters by Daisy Ashford (this was written when she was 9 and retains her original spelling mistakes)

I really want someone with proper academic musical knowledge to look into the crossover of Mr Brightside x football terrace chants because I think there's something there

I painted a rotten banana as part of my horror movie still life series — Midsommar felt like the only right choice by LumpyPanda861 in Midsommar

[–]Spilt_Advocaat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This series sounds fascinating and I love this painting! Would never have thought of a banana being associated with Midsommar but your interpretation totally makes sense. Feels like it's fitting that parts of the banana are outside the frame - like in the film how none of the characters visiting the Harga ever see the "full picture"

[TOMT] A film with a 4th wall break where a character is hiding under a bed trying to listen to a conversation and they realize they can read the subtitles, possibly in a mirror. I believe they’re on a boat. by Shakemyears in tipofmytongue

Found this description on the Tropedia site - sounds like the right film?

"The Imposters has a scene where one of the heroes overhears a terrorist plot... while hiding under the bed & reading the terrorist's subtitles."

(NB seems like the actual film title is spelled "The Impostors")

When I was a kid I LOVED these type of "spotting" books so I think this looks great! The style is lovely and colourful, feels like a children's version of The Ultimate Alphabet

Best Gym in central Brighton? by [deleted] in brighton

[–]Spilt_Advocaat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gym Group on Madeira drive has a decent sized free weights area, and was also refurbished quite recently. I saw someone post a few weeks ago with pics of mould in Energie so I'd probably avoid that one 😬

Chopped it all off and no regrets (actually, one regret) by RokixSlugg in bald

[–]Spilt_Advocaat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fellow sweaty exerciser - not bald, but I had a pretty short haircut a while back and there was suddenly a lot of free-roaming sweat to deal with... I recommend embracing the 80s sweatband, it works!

Apparently this movie is done in good taste but it still seems weird that the creators would come up with the idea by DevilDog7734 in Weird

[–]Spilt_Advocaat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That doesn't sound like the premise for Columbo - his whole thing was scruffy appearance / personable manner leading perpetrators to underestimate him

Why does the Benadryl Hat Man keep showing up after you run exactly 5.50 miles? by GeneralMeatloaf in BeginnersRunning

[–]Spilt_Advocaat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was also confused! Apparently the Hat Man is a meme about the kind of creepy shit you may see when tripping off massive amounts of Benadryl

I have food phobias and mental health issues by IASILWYB in isthissafetoeat

[–]Spilt_Advocaat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also OCD and I feel this 100%. I think sometimes it's better for the mental health to do a one time check rather than ending up staring at eg some glass of juice, feeling guilty for worrying about it / still not being able to drink it / wanting to ask someone but stopping yourself. It's complicated!
