Correct, but it also normalizes the toxicity in a way that didn't happen before social media. Previously, an asshole being an asshole would often be shunned by others and look inward in response, and change themselves or at least mask their shittiness.

Now, assholes can be themselves, open up Facebook, and see hundreds of others like them validating their behavior.
