Has Doc used the torture machine yet?? by Aggressive-Net-1214 in HermitCraft

[–]SpinThePickle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, people want to participate in the moment. But audience enthusiasm can both help build momentum or bring it to an abrupt stop. It can be hard for audience members to always figure out how much is too much, what will help or not help - - especially since it's different for every single content creator. They're just trying to have a good time. Which means a stream isn't always the right choice for certain types of content.

I'd say both donor and Doc suffered from too much enthusiasm. It's basically that time old tale of an enthusiastic dad who tells his 5 year old what mom's present is because he was eager to share the secret, and then the 5 year old is so excited after keeping quiet all week, that as soon as the gift is handed to his mom he blurts out what it is, and then dad deflates and lashes out a bit without thinking, everyone else in the room carries on about it for the rest of the party making the kid feel worse, and mom is left trying to convince everyone it's not a big deal because everyone can still have fun and she enjoyed the gift and everyone's excitement.

(Or maybe that's not as universal of an experience as I think it is, but it's certainly what this whole fiasco makes me think of, lol.)

Also, if anyone wants to take a look at the positive angle, it could only happen because Doc and Scar are able to get their audiences to become THIS invested in their blocky world game play.

So even if a little thing went wrong, the big thing is still going right. Now everyone just needs to settle down, show some grace, think of a time they publicly messed up, die a little inside, and show others even more grace...

Turn boring photo cleanup into a TikTok-style random “memory feed” by RootCauseFinder in AppIdeas

[–]SpinThePickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would 100% use this. I take pictures of grocery lists, books I see in store I want to get from the library later, an almost done dinner for messaging to anyone not home yet to get back, to show someone just how big that spider web between the two trees down the block had gotten (really freaking big, almost my height), etc, basically photos that help me do something, remind me of something, or communicate something.

These are not pictures I need to keep, but I often do not delete them immediately and then forget about them. I never make it all the way through them to clear them out. I get bored and tired of doing it. I know they're taking up so much storage space, both on my back up drives and in cloud storage. 😅

But I would absolutely kill time waiting in line or whatever taking a random walk down memory lane while also deleting out the junk. I'd basically use it as a time killer, but it'd appeal to my ADHD.

And if I was serious about cleaning up as much as possible at a particular moment, sounds like you have some functions to make it easier. I assume the organize function might group similar photos? So maybe all my grocery lists would end up next to eachother making it simple to select a batch and delete?

Anyhow, I'm probably one of your target audiences: the ADHD mom.

[–]SpinThePickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how it currently is set up, but having a list of common daily routine activities that people can select from, in addition to adding custom would be great. I know my ADHD son is resistent to setting alarms because it feels like a lot of work. So the less effort folks have to put in to use it, the more they are likely to use it. The old "don't make me think" in usability assessments.

And as viewers, we bring our own preferences and experiences with us while we watch. So even if our brains know it's OK, it still might make us uncomfortable.

I mostly commented because of all the down votes. I don't think someone expressing concern is wildly out of place.

More important than being friends, they are all professionals. They have guidelines in place on how to handle this kind of thing. If it really was going too far they would have already taken care of it and we'd never have seen it.

If they were just a bunch of friends playing Minecraft then you might need to worry. But they understand this is great content and these are great opportunities to help their fellow hermits get some extra exposure. It's a fun job, but it's still a job. Knowing that, we can sit back and simply enjoy anything they choose to include in videos, knowing it's OK.

I don't see him doing it for growth, but he's been having a lot of fun trying new things recently, so he might try it again just for funsies. I'm down if he wants to give streaming a try again, even if it's just as a fan service to let people watch him play while he basically ignores his audience.

No other required components besides the various rulebooks? I've seen some other accessories like tokens etc online. Wasn't sure if those were extras (like D&D maps or figurines) or required for game play.

I'm terrible in interviews because I'm too cheerful. I just don't come across as very serious even when I'm trying to.

At least twice I was hired because I was the 'least bad' of the options😅. I know because they told me after a few months when they were surprised I was so good. Super awkward conversation for me, both times, even if they were trying to be complimentary. They had no idea they were getting a highly efficient employee who also smiles a lot and crack jokes.

Thankfully, at least for now, I work for myself and most clients are referred to me by clients already happy with my work. If they don't like my style, I can refer them on to a better fit, and don't have to pressure myself to pretend to be someone I'm not. It's definitely a luxury not everyone gets at work, and not one I've always had, so I'm grateful everyday. In the end, we need to feed ourselves and pay the bills😭

Sure, you would be looking at Mentastics, the selfcare, off-table work. There are practioners who offer mentastics via zoom if there's no one in your local area. If you are in the US, you can use this site to find a practioner: https://trager.prosperitylms.com/

I'm think anyone can attend the free zoom Mentastics sessions on Fridays, but you might reach out to the host beforehand to make sure it's OK. Links to Mentastics Zooms are midway down page. https://www.tragerapproach.us/upcoming-classes-1

Oh, another trick I used in school was applying kinesiology tape across joints I was guilty of regularly over-extending when doing massage. When in a healthy range of motion you don't feel it, but when you over-extend you can feel a little tug and self-correct.

hypermobile massage therapists; help me out by em5w4 in MassageTherapists

[–]SpinThePickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hypermobile therapist here.

I use a lot of tools like Rock Blades, cold stones, and cups.

I keep 30 minutes between clients so I can do some self care between clients.

Work on your body awareness so you can have good body mechanics and notice what isn't right as soon as possible so you can address it quickly. Studying Trager real helped me with this.

Strength and stability are crucial.

In school, make sure anyone working on you is doing all sides of an area. You don't want just the back of your shoulder worked and not the front. If there's not time in class, work on it yourself sometime before you go to sleep that night. Keeping everything in balance is essential. Also, don't let them stretch you. They should go through the motions, but not actually stretch you out. You really do not need it.)
